Smells like a polybag. Nice colour bike.

I heard that the giveaway in Chicago Stores will be opened and resealed by the staff in order to remove the Ketchup bottle piece ;)

That may or may not be true.

Excellent! I am excited. Is this in addition to the Jor-El? I was waiting for July 1st to get Jor-El and this is an exciting bonus.

    You're confusing June with July...
    June 1-25th for Jor-El...
    July 1-31st Hot Dog cart...
Anyone noticing a new trend? Is it just me or are these exclusive sets, becoming more frequent?

    ^ ah yes...darn.

Nice bike...agreed. Exclusive figs, creative little sets like this and the winter one given away beginning on Brick Friday are reasons to buy LEGO directly from LEGO. I'll be picking up at least one copy of this set this summer.

Remove the Katsup piece? Why it is just a red nose cone, what is so big about that?
  • iancam33iancam33 Member Posts: 407
I love it. I really love the fact it has a bike with it. I almost regret purchsing a friends set just for the blue bike.
  • Dare_WreckDare_Wreck Member Posts: 23
@Dread_Pirate - Renny was joking, since in Chicago, it's considered sacrilege to put ketchup on your hot dogs. :) A Chicago-style hot dog has yellow mustard and no ketchup. Throw the red stuff on there, and you'll get weird looks and possibly even run out of town (just joking, of course!).

^^ Hair has been in a fair few sets now, it's a couple of years old

As long as they dont include a brown cone then i will be happy. I moved to kc a few years ago wand was horrified to discover that people here put bbq sauce in their brats. Mustard, relish, and kraut are all fine, ketchup is acceptable but bbq sauce is just wrong.

Being from WA and only spending a couple months near Chicago (Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, IL) I did not know this was an issue. No katsup is not an issue with me but the yellow mustart needs to be no where near my food. :P For me a good amount of cheese sauce, onions and relish(or chilli) and I'm good to go!

Speaking of hot dog condiments, I only put ketchup on my hot dogs. Nothing else. I don't like the taste of mustard or relish. ;-)
    Poochy

Gray pupon(sp) mustard is good on a dog as is caeser or ranch dressing.

Heywood Floyd: I'd love a hot dog.
Walter Curnow: Astrodome. Good hot dogs there.
Heywood Floyd: Astrodome? You can't grow a good hot dog indoors. Yankee Stadium. September. The hot dogs have been boiling since opening day in April. Now that's a hot dog.
Walter Curnow: The yellow mustard or the darker kind?
    Heywood Floyd: The darker kind.
    Walter Curnow: Very important.

What a cool looking set!! Maybe for those in Chicago, they should replace the ketchup piece with brickset.com/parts/?part=4549989.

Since we are doing movie references...... do you know what hotdogs are made from?

@sidersdd good call on the bike.

@matthew i dont recognize the hair still. Looked for it on bricklink in black but not seeing it, maybe in other colors?
  • canuckcanuck Member Posts: 88
@BrickDancer I believe the hairpiece is http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=88286 and has at least been in city sets, #3661 #4206
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
You're right! Hard to tell from the BL pic angles compared to above. I actually have one right in front of me in dark brown, the only color so far apparently. Good to see it available in black now.

Red stuff is ok as long as it is sliced red tomatoes, and don't forget the relish, chopped onions, kosher pickle and sport peppers piled into a steamed poppy seed bun as well!

I have it on good authority from a former Vienna Beef VP that the acidity of the catsup/ketchup ruins the flavor of the beef.

Oh, and the exclusive VIP set looks like a nice complement to the ice cream cart from the Grand Emporium.

very cute little freebie - I would time a purchase in order to get that. but hey, no relish????
  • HarryPotterLoverHarryPotterLover Member Posts: 238
This set seems pretty low par. I'm not going back to the LEGO store until The Tower of Orthanc is released. I could either get it early with my VIP card and have the exclusive Jor-El minifigure, or I could WAIT and get this tiny poly thats made of easily findable pieces and regular city minifigures. Not really much of a contest to me in terms of which to choose.

Some polybags (exclusive minifigures, etc) are EXCELLENT. But some others that are LEGO store only, well...may just be parts

What a great little set. Now I have to find a reason to spend $75 in July. Hmmm...

As for the discussion about Hot Dogs and Brats, being from Sheboygan Wisconsin, the city with a parade to celebrate brats, it still appalls me that anyone would eat a brat on a hot dog bun. In Sheboygan we know that the correct way to eat them is this: charcoal grilled double brat on a Sheboygan hard roll topped with brown mustand, pickles, and onions. Sauerkraut is optional but acceptable.

I am hoping at some point they'll consider making a hamburger and fries to match the dog. Food items currently include lime (?) and red cherries, drumstick, pie, cake, hot dog, croissant, pretzel, bread, banana, ice cream, popsicles with lots of flavors including my favorite, trans-neon green, yum!.

And I love everyone favorite food / weapon...the carrot which doubles at a club for beating people.

When in the vault during the inside tour earlier in the week there were a number of new polys to be found in the 2013 aisle. Some turned up in the instructions scrape this morning but others haven't, including a 400xx set which will be a TRU exclusive, of Geoffrey the giraffe's head and neck. I photographed them and will be adding photos when I get home tomorrow, or Monday.

Oh, for sure tomatoes are welcome on a Chicago-style hot dog (namely, the wedge-shaped slices you mention). It's just them being in the form of ketchup that's looked down upon. :)

So, you're looking more for a burger specifically molded as such? Cause I thought the burger in the SpongeBob sets worked really well, even if it is a bit unwieldy.

In regards to this set (which I love), why does the vendor even have condiments when he seems to be fresh out of hot dog buns?

The Sponge Bob is one BAB...Big @$$ Burger. It is brick built, but I would like to have an actual molded piece. That's one thing I like about Playmobil.

Don't get me started on packs of hotdogs and packs of buns.. lol

They are different. The Maersk blue *only* comes in the Maersk sets. The azure colors (Medium and Dark) come in the Friends sets, Alien Conquest, Galaxy Squad, and some CMFs (genie, paratrooper, surgeon, punk girl).

*sigh* now the painter drops to #2 as my favorite CMF 10, i alwayz though it was awsome and fitting that they chose maersk as the color pick for the painter... Guess i was wrong.
Now i got to explain to the girlfreind im an idiot.

Ps. Skydiver is #1, the face just cracks me the @#*$ up!

I was dreading June and July for the exclusives but I just picked a Jor-El off of ebay for $10 shipped so that helps.

Just got Iron Man poly and Jor-El with my purchase at S@H, but nothing beats hot dog water.
  • DeadareusDeadareus Member Posts: 264
I too waited until the Jor-El promotion and he is on his way along with Iron Man which was a nice little surprise!

I am sucker for a nice 'street corner' addition set though. This little scene will look great outside of the Fire Brigade or Grand Emporium. Well done TLG!
