Dear Ambassadors,Their deadline is 29th August; I'll need some time to collate the responses, so please respond here by the end of Saturday 27th August.
Recently we asked for your help in finding out what are some of your most favorite models of all time. The information you provided us was surprising in how many recent sets were included on the list. That was wonderful to hear, however it didn’t quite provide us with enough suggestions for our true intentions.
The Direct Team is considering refreshing a model which is a LEGO fan favorite from years past. We are not looking to do a LEGO Legend. Instead, we would like to completely rethink a classic model by using today’s building techniques, colors and styling. Imagine it very much like when the Star Wars team revisits classic icons like the X-wing or when the Direct Team revisited Town Plan.
Please keep your choices to sets released in the 1970s, 1980s & 1990s. The sets should include minifigures, be non-IP (No Star Wars, Ferrari, Maersk, etc) and unfortunately not be a monorail or any other train that rides on one rail. If the sets are from the 1970s and did not originally include minifigures, try to imagine that the new version would have minifigures.
Deadline for suggestions is the 29th of August!
Many thanks for your help,
LEGO Direct Team

My nomination would have to be for one of the larger forestmen sets so 6054, 6066 or 6071. So much potential, would love to see a modernised attempt.
6543-1: Sail N' Fly Marina
6391-1: Cargo Center
1592-1: Town Square - Castle Scene
I would have no hesitation in mentioning 6500 too, but since it was never produced.....
6952 - Solar Power Transporter
Modular vehicles that connect to each other, it's hard to go wrong when contained within one set. And although it's shape reminds me of the new Alien Conquest base, I would love to see it as a Blacktron re-visitation or an alien's version of the mobile station ;)
Of course it would be great to tag on some space ships and if the base were expandable but what I like about this set is it can be 1, 2, or even 3 vehicles. If more could be added to it, it would be an ever expanding train but we all know that's what makes modular cool.
Then again any castle or pirate ship would probably make me very happy.
6765 Gold City Junction
6769 Fort Legoredo
1592 Town Square
6277 Trading Post
But also:
396 Thatcher Perkins
371 Sea Plane
456 Spirit of St. Louis
580 Brick Yard
My vote probably goes to the following however, done up MMV/Diagon Alley style:
365 Wild West
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=497-1 - "Galaxy Explorer"
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=928-1 - "Space Cruiser And Moonbase"
(shamelessly copy and paste of Ian's links)
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6380-1
Please please please can Lego give us a decent reason why they are excluding Monorail, because every excuse I've ever heard has work-arounds, and 6399 is in my book far and away the best Lego set ever.
Although honourable mention for 1592 and other Town Square/Town Plan sets, any of which I'd buy like a shot.
http://brickset.com/detail/?set=6552-1 "Rocky River Retreat"
I just love the idea of a cabin or minifig dwelling surrounded by nature elements. Not just a house with trees around it, but the entire set having a nature theme with the dwelling being incorporated into that; being a part of it. (For anyone who never had this set, the interior of the cabin actually extends into the mountainside with an entire room being located within the hollow of the rocks). I would love to see this concept expanded on.
I'd like to see Lego reimagine fabufigs as minifigs, and there hasn't been a recent service station anyway, has there?
I know this is a long shot, but I still want Lego to know that there is a strong interest in Fabuland.
I used to own one of these when I was young, and I remember them being awesome:
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=497-1 - Galaxy Explorer
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=928-1 - Space Cruiser And Moonbase
But then I see these sets from the western theme (which I never even knew about, since those were released in my Dark Ages):
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6762-1 - Fort Legoredo
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=6765-1 - Gold City Junction
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6766-1 - Rapid River Village
And those are just... incredible. I'd buy updated versions of those in a minute.
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=497-1 - "Galaxy Explorer"
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=928-1 - "Space Cruiser And Moonbase"
And I'd also add:
http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6988-1 - "Alpha Centauri Outpost"
First off, Blacktron! Secondly, it's a snazzy-looking base and I'd love to see them make it even snazzier!
Too bad Santa Fe Super Chief was released in 2002, I presume that does not make the cutoff?
6390 Main Street (make it a more modular feel)
6383 Public Works Center (got to love a contruction site)
575 Coast Guard Station (Add some more realistic boats and a rescue chopper with a bucket to lower down to the water)
It's not my favorite model of all-time, but I chose it over others because:
1) the diverse scene offers a lot of room for enhancements
2) it is on the older end of the minifig scale, and would highlight similarities and techniques of present vs yesteryear
3) it captures the playful spirit of LEGO
4) the original model was not widely available
5) it can appeal to town and castle fans
Wild West/Frontier theme: 365, 6765, 6769
The whole western theme really ought to have a redo, enough time has certainly passed, and sets now can be so much more detailed and sophisticated than in these cases, especially 365. I have said it elsewhere on brickset, but the western theme has a lot of untapped potential.
4554 Metro station crossed my mind, but then I'd rather see a new metro/subway station. I would love to see a moder version of 6278 Enchanted island, but in the end my vote goes to 6394 Metro park & service tower.
Edit: Galaxy Explorer :o)
I would go for any/all of the following as a classic make-over:
Otherwise, I'd be a fan of anything Western - particularly Fort Legoredo or the Bandit's Secret Hideout...a Western goldmine would be excellent.
I would imagine it a bit thicker around the edges and much sleeker as well.
Whatever happens with this idea, kudos to LEGO for putting the question out there!
Or Forestman (Favorite Camouflaged Outpost)
