    ^Agreed, that will be some lucas/disney licensing at work then no doubt. Actually don't all star wars toys have that design each year not just lego?

    ^ You are correct. All SW toys have had the same border for a few years now. On the border topic: I don't know what the SSD box looks like, but the Death Star and the regular Star Destroyer don't have 'UCS' borders either, but they have the borders from their set years. What about the B-Wing? I don't know that one either.

    the last several UCS sets have all matched the regular line of SW sets/everything else SW merchandise for that year.

    That original box was so much more amazing but I can see why they're going with the newer design, ah well. Still, I'm likely to pick up this set since I missed the original!

    They also don't state they are UCS on the boxes either, are Lego purposefully trying to make every UCS set "less UCS" ???

    Yeah I don't really understand why they don't call it UCS. They have used the same box borders on previous sets but this ones box in my opinion is relatively small so it blends in even more.

    im talking about ucs sets in general, lego never say they are ucs anymore.

    Your logic here is that, ten years ago, LEGO decided to stop printing Ultimate Collector's Series on the box because people complained that there were two X-Wings?

    It could just be my pessimistic view on things but does it really look THAT much better than the old one from a distance to warrant a rerelease of a UCS set when there are still many more that havnt yet been released in UCS form?

    ^i think you'll find a fair few agree with you there. I certainly do. Of course a lot of this debate hinges on whether we a). Have a second ucs sw this year, and b). What that set will be (re-release or original set) re-releases are fine but only if they supplement a new set.

    Could just be my bad eyesight but really the only thing that i noticed that really sticks out for me on the new one is the less blocky nose cone which im sure is pretty easily modded, the other new features im sure could also easily be changed on the original without having to buy the new one to make it a little more updated.

    Its a safe bet that it will make lego some nice profits due to its iconic status so i can understand legos reason behind it, what i don't understand is the boring box art that just makes it look like another x wing rehash, lego really need to spruce things up in the box designing department.

    If they really want to profit on these big sets then at least put some imagination into the artwork :/

    Would you? It wouldn't be in a whole lot of stores other than LEGO brand stores to begin with since it's D2C, but furthermore I'd think the sheer size of the box would be more than enough to grab most people's attention. I certainly have a hard time visiting a LEGO brand store and not noticing all the latest D2C sets, particularly when they have the assembled models front-and-center in eye-catching display cases.

    I agree, the box design helps it blend in with the system sets. Instead of purposely making it different it to stand out as significant.

    If you know you want it already, the box shouldn't matter. If you're in a LEGO store already you'll probably see the model on display before seeing the box no matter how much the box stands out from the other boxes since the model will probably be in the front window and it is large enough and recognizable enough to stand out on its own. I don't think the box will affect sales on this set much at all.

    I don't think anyone looking to spend that much money on Lego won't know what they're getting into. It'd be nice if the boxes were something special, might make them more displayable if your that way inclined.

    It's also not going to be sold in a random rack of Lego in your local Tesco, I imagine Lego know whaththey're doing

    I'm still curious as to who these people are, walking around Lego stores with hundreds of dollars to spend, basing their purchasing decisions solely on box art.

    Though, I suppose if they are just wandering around planning to spend their money on something, box art may play a large role in determining what that something is...

    ^Easy, it is uninformed consumers. I remember buying Nintendo games at toys r us solely on the front and back of the box. I didn't have the internet or a subscription to Nintendo Power back then. People nowadays have access to that information quite easily but they just don't bother. I have many relatives who buy Lego as gifts and when I tell them that they are buying overpriced Lego they just tell me they don't care as long as the store is close and it is in stock.

    They don't want to spend time shopping around or waiting for an online set to be delivered.

    It's gotta be a pretty generous uninformed individual who buys a £170 lego set without prior research or consultation with whoever the model is for. A Nintendo game priced £20-30 is one thing and if you get the wrong one easy enough to return and swap for a similar one for the same price. Your hardly gonna be able to trade in the system for the UCS! Therefore any consumers buying for someone else will either buy the cheaper one or ask why the other is more expensive and is the higher price justified.

    To be honest I never underestimate how much disposable income some people have and how willing they are to spend it. The other day I was at the Audi dealership and there was an older gentleman with his son pointing and asking what model is this, what model is that, what is the price and asking his son if he thought it was cool. The cars he was asking about were $60k+ btw and by the time I left it looked like they were already negotiating at the table. When I bought my Audi by the time I went into the dealership I knew more about that car than any one at that lot. To each there own.

    I remember plenty of times going to the Lego store with a good 100-200 dollars and not have a plan on what I was getting. Whether I got multiple sets or one expensive set I was very un-informed. Now that happens less often with the huge expansion of "The Internets".

    What are peoples thoughts/wishes for sets/themes beyond 2013. Here's my prediction and my reasoning.
    I think we will get the UCS AT-AT that so many people have been hankering after, whether it's a variation of @cavegod 's via the cussoo project or lego's own interpretation I can't decide. I think it will come in 2015, because this will tie in with The Empire Strikes Back's 35th anniversary.
    It'll be the first set to break the 6000 piece mark and also the first to break the £500 barrier possibly pushing for £600.
    2015 will also be about the right time for another big UCS set as the SSD was released in 2011 and I believe we will get a few of the more affordable UCS sets in the mean time (X wing, B wing size/price point).
    I have no link to any inside info at Lego, this is just my musings. Off now to see if Ladbrokes will give odds on Lego set predictions.

    How odd. Earlier today I found the UCS Red Five X-Wing on the Lego store website, marked up as 'available from May 3rd' (shouldn't it have been May 4th?).
    I've just gone back, and it's been removed.

    Guess someone got ahead of themselves when they were updating the website.

    For what it's worth, Lego is going to have THREE brand-new Star Wars films to draw from to create all-new UCS models.

    May the 3rd sounds right assuming they are doing the may the 4th promo over Friday and Saturday. Its been 3rd and 4th or 4th and 5th before

    UCS R2 was available a few days earlier than May 4th last year, but it seemed crazy to jump the gun by a few days and not get TC-14, the R2 poster and the Tie Polybag. Same will probably happen again this year.

    So as we can expect the X-Wing in but a few days (although I'll personally be holding off on buying one til the next double points promo) I was wondering if anyone had any news on the potential second UCS release. Is the Ewok village guaranteed? Is it a full on UCS or merely a playset, will I be spending more of my hard earned money on ABS plastic? (As I only collect UCS and Planet sets)

    The Brick show is talking about a 'large ewok village' to be released in 2013 also a strong rumor of Yoda's hut on dagobah.

    Yoda's Hut, Ewok village... both winners in theory... assuming they don't stick another flippin' X-wing in there, using up all the brick allocation from the degobah build.

    Then we just need Ben's Tatooine Hovel (with sand people on woolyphant - or whatever the furry elephant creature was). Some Jawas.

    And an ethereal Ben, Anakin (old man) & yoda, and i'm pretty much happy... oh, and some bespin sets, for my cloud city moc (which i still haven't started).

    I agree Bens hovel would be a cool set. Yes, sand people, def need more of them and updated version at that. Instead of painting the mask on the head, I think it would be cool to make a actual helmet for them.....females included.

    Lol...woolyphant...nice...I chuckled at that one. I believe you mean Bantha.

    I am really looking forward to seeing the Ewok Village.....a Yoda's hut would be awesome as well. I would like to see a Empire playset/scene too. It seems since the Death Star there has not really been a designated Empire playset/scene. Not counting ships.

    There's a nice tease in the CMF Encylcopedia (bear with me), on the page with the Forest Maiden:

    "The Forest Maiden's new hair piece is made of soft plastic. It was designed so that it could also be used for other forest-dwelling female characters, like one from a galaxy far, far away..."

    And having read that, I can *so* see the resemblance! Bring it on!

    People mentioed this when the forest maiden first came out, but wrote it off as conjecture as licensed themes seem to generate their own moulds.

    Yoda's Hut
    If they still produce the #9493 X-Wing set when Yoda's Hut is about (assuming it is coming), would be no need for another X-Wing.
    At best, Yoda's Hut should include a small "expansion pack" for #9493 to add swamp-like parts to it etc and concentrate on Hut features.

    This could get expensive for me in the fall. I already have the old #4502 but if the rumoured hut is any better, would be a buy.

    Ewok Village
    As for the Ewok Village, I will be interested to see how the set plays out. I'd expect to see the throne, the imperial 'helmet' drums as an example.

    How much of the tree that the village is suspended on will we get is something else I wonder.
    So will be tree be the full length, making the set more costly?
    Or will we get a tree that's part cut off, still allowing for the village to be suspended and allowing for extension at the base?
    Or even having the village not suspended at all?

    Will be most interesting to see what TLG comes up with but almost certainly a buy from me.

    A new non clone-wars Yoda will be released with the coming summer sets.

    I'd be surprised if there weren't a net trap. A bridge to re-create the Luke/Leia/Han scene, a room to re-create the Ewoks/C-3PO scene, and a small forest area to re-create the Leia/Wicket/Scout scene are all possibilities.

    If the Ewok Village is indeed supposed to be a big set like the Death Star then I would expect it to include multiple play features from the Endor battle. The top section would be the actual village but the lower section would be a combination of scenes, maybe four.
