i started with the white pieces in the last page of the instructions for the bricklink list. if someone could start from the grays and work backwards, we could probably get this done more efficiently and merge our lists.

    Gah!

Just realised that although I have all the Iron Man suits bar the one in the #76006, when I do buy that set I have to buy two to get a War Machine armour to mount without the shoulder cannon to represent the Mark Two suit. But then the Iron Patriot suit is a War Machine mkII suit so (mind melts into confused puddle)

I dread to think if they do more sets with the Red Snapper, Igor, Striker, Shotgun, Silver Centurion, Hammerhead and the rest from the movie they don't name.

This is ace, but surely people don't need instructions. I think you could look at the pics and make a very good attempt??
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
why turn down instructions when they are available?

I've started at the other end and have almost got all the grays done.

Just bought malibu masion attack, cosmic cube escape and a couple of minifigs to complete this!! Just love it. Going to put some pf lights above the various suits of armour to enhance it a little. Fortunately, I have everything else including the base plate.

Looks like I'm going to be shopping from my own Bricklink store to complete this project. Worth it!

i've still got 150 or so pcs to order...what's your store? @vwong19

So, I really want to build this set (wish it was just available to buy), but I'm very unfamiliar with things like Bricklink or Pick-a-Brick. How do they work? How do I go about making sure I order all the right pieces so I can build it? And for those that have already order, about how much is it? Thanks in advance to those that help.
  • vwong19vwong19 Member Posts: 1,191
I think I removed all that I need from my store...
    http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=vwong19

@RayReptile - You should buy the Mansion and other Iron Man sets first, if you haven't already. The Mansion set contains many of the key elements for the basement. I would cannibalize the little Iron Man sets for any parts for the basement, place most of the Iron Man gadget stuff from the Mansion set to the Secret lab where it belongs.

As far buying parts, Bricklink is cheaper than Pick-a-Brick if you don't include shipping from the seller. If you're buying from multiple sellers, that adds up quickly. Lego Shop-at-Home has free shipping now, so that is a plus now.

I have all the Iron Man 3 sets so far.... all built. I'm guessing I'd have to buy a second of these sets to build. Is that what you're saying?
  • RayReptileRayReptile Member Posts: 6
I'm currently look at the instructions for the lab, and trying to place all the pieces which pieces come with the Mansion, Sea Port and Ultimate Battle... has anyone else already done this?
  • GeddesGeddes Member Posts: 574
Im counting down the days! Got 2 pick a brick orders and 2 parts and pieces orders ..... At least i can build the iron man 3 sets in the mean time

@rayreptile I have done this and other than figures and stickers there is probably only a few dozen pieces you can use.
  • RayReptileRayReptile Member Posts: 6
Ok. Thank you. Like I said, I bought the sets the first week they hit stores and put them together. Wasn't sure if purchasing multiple of the sets would help or if it's easier just doing it a different way.

Easiest way is Bricklink or Pick a Brick. There is 440 pieces to this build. I didnt run the other two sets through but... there are only 60 common pcs between mansion and this build.

Wow, amazing experience its going to be. About time I buy the Ironman sets to get the mini figures needed for this LEGO Club creation. Has LEGO ever done this before?? and to provide instructions online???
  • RayReptileRayReptile Member Posts: 6
I've see some "alternate builds," but nothing like this that I'm aware of. All of the new TMNT sets had a "second build" instructions which could be downloaded.
  • kyrotekkyrotek Member Posts: 212
As requested by @jadedanc and possibly useful for anyone else attempting this build.

Sorry, the pricing side looks incomplete but red text denotes parts not in the UK PaB site. Prices are kind of loosely average in pounds and pennies.

@kyrotek --- it nettles my nerves that they have a high quantity piece unavailable

    4113854 Tile 1 x 2 with Groove Trans Dark Blue 16 qty

the others, that's fine, great wonderful, etc.....but if you have a Designer model, as TLG...wouldn't you want anything over a qty of 10 to be avail in S@H PAB?

I have 2/3 of the pieces already or more, but there are other people out there with basically nothing. Just makes me GRRRR.

Just bought an additional stick sheet 76007, wish p&b wouldn't take so long.

I received 2 BL orders for this on the weekend so I've commenced construction. Hoping the third has arrived tonight so I can finish!
Then I need to set about incorporating the mansion on top (yes, I bought that at the weekend... :-))

Thanks for the info #RayReptile, I will look for the alternate builds instructions....
and thank you for sharing the Spreadsheet and the hard work behind it #kyrotek....
#LostInTranslation, how much did you pay for each order?
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
    @coolsplash
Well, my total orders came to around £15 but I doubled up on some of the parts I was ordering so I can give them go my brother. I already had the bulk of the regular bricks, windows, plates. It was mostly the less common parts I was ordering.
I also chose to order from two places because the sellers are in my LUG so they weren't necessarily the cheapest (I couldn't be bothered to shop around).
So all in all, my purchases are probably not really a helpful reference :-)

I started this weekend with parts from my collection and have it about 90% complete.... cannibalized PotC White Cap Bay (4194) since it was collecting dust and substituted some hidden plates with random colored plates.

The decorative pieces (i.e. trans dark blue tile, trans light blue grills, trans yellow tile) are a bit annoying to obtain, not very common, but at least they don't hold up the build until you're almost done. The large round plate (x3) is new and somewhat rare.

Merging the Mansion set with the Secret Lab will be interesting to accomplish. I'd be interested to hear what other people are doing for that. I assume people are moving the mini lab from the Mansion down to the Secret Lab to save on additional construction costs.

^^I'm a stickler or OCD to some extent. I'll construct them both seperately just to see the build of both, and then go from there. It's exactly what I did with Jabba's Palace and Rancor Pit, before I started modifying and adding bits.

Anyone notice part 4632574 is not used!?!
  • JBricks27JBricks27 Member Posts: 678
I can't find it in the step by step instructions. Maybe it was in one of the draft designs and was missed when the part list was finalized

I find that occasionally on the mini builds and some "online instructions only" sets, Lego is missing some QC on these sets. Some parts missing on instructions and some parts not used at all.

Probably a different group than the usual stuff.

Although on the Lone Ranger Stagecoach Escape, there is an error on the box. It shows two figs, each with a red scarf. Only 1 is included.

This part is needed for war machine's gun but the other parts for it are not listed. I think originally, the minifigures were part of the instructions but were scrapped in the end.

When scouring the image, i noticed that but disregarded it. I thought it must be lol! Will post images when my 10 silver grates turn up, must admit the lab looks good.

I completed 99% of the Secret Lab and combined the Malibu Mansion with the set. Waiting on some orders to arrive. When I have time, I would like to expand on the project and make it my Avengers mansion.

Thanks guys. I'd like to go to the next level and expand on the ground floor and make a scale down version of his mansion surrounded by some landscape
    http://www.home-designing.com/2010/05/iron-mans-house
I am thinking a modified Millennium Falcon might be able to achieve some of the curves. The mansion is beautiful and enormous... would need a lot of white for the facade.

If you could make it so there is an opening floor like the movie, how cool would that be?

Here is my lab, haven't built the mansion yet. So Tony is out with Pepper, probably on the mandarin golf cart of death.... my girlfriend was disgusted by it. She thought it was a tractor!
