I have just printed off my certificate, and it is the same as the one in budapest. I bought a box of figures from W H Smiths not expecting to find Mr Gold and there he was!

So you have to print off your own? That's so cheap. Like an ebay "birthday" certificate.

    Oh, please- do tell.......

:) It is a long story and an inside joke, unless you really want to go and read two threads completely... the "retirement" megathread and the "evil resellers" thread.

In short, it is about the journey of little Timmy on his valiant search for a red doodad, but they are all gone, only to be replaced by blue doodads at the doodad store.

It is a sad and lonely tale filled with drama and heartache, if only those evil resellers didn't exist, then poor little Timmy would have his red doodad.

Since the feature has not appeared on the LEGO website, I think it may be useful to collectors to share where each Mr. Gold has been found.

Mine is from New Jersey - USA

I started this thread (which was merged with another) in order to provide tips for people looking for mr. Gold (when stores get series 10 shipments, what stores they were found in, who's selling one, etc...)
Your thread was merged because i started this one 2 days before yours, but great minds do think alike.... We both have a Mr Gold and id like to share the info with other collectors or the tips and tricks i used to find one. Its a shame it got blown out of controll with opinions, when it was a factual thread.most people dont even read it now, the just skim it and ask the same questions over and over. If i had my way i would trim it down to 2 threads... One for tips and facts about hunting Mr Gold. And another where people can just voice their opinions and bicker till the cows come home, and then beat the cows.
    So back on topic.
Mine was found in a Target in Wv. USA
    #3334-5000
I felt the lightsaber hilt first then made sure of the tophat, the baggy feels a little different to.
Used the DCPI # for target
Target seems to only have the endcap displays which holds 120 packets
both my walmarts still say they are ordered but nothing at the stores.
TRU has the case boxes that hold 60
The case distribution is correct for the boxes but not the endcaps. I found 9 beegirls, 6 trendsetters, and 11 medusasas in one endcap.
Target and walmart will both take back any figures you dont want as long as they are not opened.
I now fold over a tiny edge of the top right corner, so me and other collectors in my area know ive been there and to save time and more damage to the packets.
If you buy packet by packet your chances are 1: in stupid numbers, you up your chances by buying the case, return what what you dont want.
Dont let others decide your moral compass, if you feel ok and justified with the way you hunt for MrGold, go for it.
If someone finds one, congratulate them, its 1-5000,good job.

Anymore bickering over subjects everyone has put to rest, just makes you look like an a**hole, and noone really wants that.

Well I know I will use the techniques you just said and hopefully find one at some point but I will be happy just to get the whole series.

Anybody find a Mr. Gold figure lately? Where and how did you come across it? I ordered 8 Series 10 minifigs from Lego Shop at Home, I eagerly await their arrival. My odds are extremely slim to find a Mr. Gold, I am excited to see which figures I receive. I am still contemplating buying a case
  • CircleKCircleK Member Posts: 1,055
I never see full cases in my neck of the woods. Kmart, Target, and occasionslly WM get the end cap displays. Our Meijer empties a case into a large bin in an area of cheap impulse toys. I've never seen an actual case in a retail store, although they could have them in stock and just use them to refill rather than bring them out. I've never bothered to ask.
  • Jonn420Jonn420 Member Posts: 267
Always ask, even if it looks like they are giving you a bs story. Ask someone new... Look for the stock guy that looks like he would talk to you and ask if you need anything.
always say thank you and that you appreciate what they are dooing, before and after they look for you. Then next time you stop at that store they may be willing to help you easier.

So I'm being let in on an inside joke? Does this mean I've survived hell week and have been initiated into "The Club"? I look forward to reading it very soon, but as you can imagine, I'm still recovering from the hazing!

Lol for @LegoFanTexas's club you would need to own at least 50 red doodads. All kidding aside , welcome to the forms, again.

I understand your disappointment. I would feel the same way, but remember, you did find him! Agreed, I would definitely want to find a perfect one too, but I really would settle for a slightly damaged one. After all, it is one of only 5000! Hope you enjoy him- congrats on the find!

I will not open mine if I find him. I don't open any of my sealed CMF's so why would I open Mr. Gold. So, even if he is damaged, I won't ever know. This goes back to the discussion about grading Lego. Feel free to look for that thread and maybe you will see the importance of perfect packaging to some.

    Back on topic :)

Went to 2 more Targets that hadn't set the figures out yet. I had called Tuesday and they both didn't have them on the rack. Went in today and they were out but they had all been felt through... No medusas, no Gold. I snooze for 1 day and miss out on 2 opportunities haha.

I visited my local LEGO stores a couple days ago, EVERY Package was so badly damaged. I usually see 1 horribly felt up bag at some stores, probably because a piece was confusing people, but each and every packet at the LEGO store looked like it had been felt up at least 20 times.

#jonn420 hi well whats a dcpi numbe an where can i find it i live in jordan in the middle east and my store still hasent gotton any but will in about one week so im going. To be the first one to have access to them what do you advis me to do? To have a veey good chance of finding him?

@pilotmathew DCPI is Target's Barcode/Scanning system for their Inventory. If you have the DCPI # associated with a product, you can bring it into your Target store, ask them to use their hand-held PDA scanner and it will tell them How many of an item they have in stock, and where they are located. Essentially you take the DCPI # to a Target employee, ask them to search the number you give them to see if they have any in their store. When they find them, if they are not already on the floor, you can ask them to 'pull' the item(s) from the back for you. As others have suggested, it never hurts to 'kill them with kindness' since they have to pull something from the back.

^Wait, he's not saying there will be a Mr. Gold in the boxes they bring out for you. That, you will have to find yourself. If there are indeed 61 packs in a "Mr. Gold" box, I suggest you just count all of the packs and if it doesn't add up to 61, then there is no Mr. Gold. It would save a ton of time.

@lucian thanks so much but how would i know that thats the mr gold minifig for sure that they havent gotten mixed up i have a relative in canada would they be able to ask them for it? Or does it differ from country to country?

The Target DPCI# is for a CASE of 120 minifigures, you have to buy/feel each packet to see if you find a Mr Gold

  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
With all the crazy comments on here, I may have missed something.

Is there 61 packs in a box that contains Mr. Gold?
  • Jonn420Jonn420 Member Posts: 267
^I didnt personally count but i believe someone said its switched out with a baseball player . So it would stay 60 for the box case. 120 for the endhanger case.

^^^ I don't know for certain, but I would tend to guess it is the same number overseas as well.

^^ Most stores get boxes that contain 60 packs, Target, and Walmart however get special display boxes that hold 120. In both cases, Mr. gold replaces another minifig and thus, has no effect on the total number in the box.
  • CurvedRoadPlateCurvedRoadPlate Member Posts: 257
Be aware its the same DPCI #, no mater which figure is in the packet. Lego has not had separate bar codes on CMF since series 2
  • JosephJoseph Member Posts: 629
    edited May 2013
^ As CurvedRoadPlate said, all series 10 packets have the same DPCI so there's no way to know if you're getting a Mr. Gold or not (aside from feeling).
  • sirrich69sirrich69 Member Posts: 531
    @pilotmathew

Buying a box does not gurantee you get a Mr Gold, weather a 30 fig, 60 fig or 120 fig box. These are the box sizes that LEGO distribute the minfigs in.

So if you buy a 30 fig box it will have 30 figures, if there is a MR Gold in that box another figure will have been removed. The same for a 60 fig box or a 120 fig box.

From comments in this thread or maybe another Mr Gold replaces one of the baseball fielders in a 60 fig box. No one has confirmed what figure is replaced in a 30 fig box or a 120 fig box.

    5000 Mr Golds worldwide.

If you buy a box and get Mr Gold well done you were a lucky one.

  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454

@Joseph Oh okay but are you sure that the target dcpi number would contain the mr gold i dont wanna put over 200 dollars in this then get ripped off you know well if they told me they had the 60 one box and 120 which should i choose?

Yeah, you aren't understanding. No way to know you will be getting Mr. Gold without feeling. How would you be getting ripped off?

You have a chance just like anybody else.

You could get lucky and get Mr
gold in the box you purchase or you may not. The odds are stacked against you though.

If buying a box thinking you will get Mr Gold is the wrong way to approach it.

pilotmathew, can you buy a sealed box from ebay? That ensures they have not been felt and gives you the same odds as everyone else. Good luck,
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454

@pitfall69 well you didnt understand me read the comments next time please i said i dont live inn the country where im going to buy th mr gold from so im just going to purchase a full box! And order it

I did read your comments. No need to get fiesty with ME!!! You wanted codes to ensure you get Mr. Gold and there are none. You have just as good a chance as anyone to find Mr. Gold if you order a sealed box. No matter what country you are from.

Is there a set distribution for 30 and 120 fig boxes or is it random? The 120 I found somehow had 237 skydivers. ;o)
    legoprods
  • sirrich69sirrich69 Member Posts: 531
    @yellowcastle

reports from series 9 30 fig boxes in Germany indicated a box of 30 was half the distribution of a 60 fig box, (hence why we have even distribution of 2,4 and 6 figures in my opinion). I have had some 120 fig boxes of series 4 admiteldly and they were double the distribution of a box of 60 at the time.

So can't say 100% confidently but that is what I would expect.

If you had 237 divers in a 120 fig box then someone has over filled it to bursting. ha ha!!!
