Mr Gold Wanted Please Read

SirKevbagsSirKevbags Member Posts: 4,027
Hello everyone,

I noticed on the Brickish forum an idea from @LostInTranslation (great idea Lucy) saying that if she was lucky enough to find one she would raffle it off. Well I've decided to see if I can find one.....

So I need a generous member who is prepared to let one go at a reasonable price. If I'm lucky enough to aquire one then I'll post the raffle details on how to enter etc. I would also be looking for other people to help me distrubute sets to other places worldwide to worthy causes. Between us we raised £300 with the mini brand store, I think Mr Gold could raise much much more.

First of all though I need Mr Gold himself.........

Thanks for reading.

I was thinking along the same lines. Sorting through some boxes now ( that I have purchased) before anyone jumps.

So if I find one (highly unlikely) then I shall let you know @kevbags.

@thecableguy - That's very generous of you! Thank you!

I'm sure @Kevbags will be happy to raffle off a Chrome Vader as well as a Mr Gold if he gets one!

@thecableguy thats just made my day :-) Such an act of generosity could never be described as a poor substitute. I'll drop you a pm.

Nothing but a shameless bump/reminder that I'm on the look out (who isn't) for a Mr Gold and that he would be graciously recieved or paid for at a reasonable amount.

While I'm posting, if you're in Europe or the US and have connections to a childrens hospital/ward or other child worthy cause and would be happy to spend raffle proceeds and deliver them then please drop me a pm.

Kev, I'd be happy to take the proceeds to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital here in Indianapolis (US). http://peytonmanning.stvincent.org/

Our LUG donates LEGO sets to the Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis each year, but I would love to donate to the Peyton Manning one as one of my children headed to the emergency room there recently and I was amazed at how well they treated us there and how fortunate we were to have such a hospital nearby. Let me know if you want to proceed with this.

As far as Mr Golds go here... I haven't even been able to search one packet as somebody has been clearing out the TRUs and Target/Walmart don't appear to have them on the shelves yet. I plan to hunt this week though.

    Great idea Dan!

As it stands we have two prizes, the chrome Vader generously offered by @TheCableGuy and the "mystery" prize offered by myself. I'm going to leave it a week or so to see if a Mr Gold falls into my hands. If not I'll add a third prize and get proceedings under way.

Not Mr Gold (I've tried), but I have a new Silver Cedric you can have from Knight's Kingdom.

I don't believe he is listed anywhere as an official minifig, but he was made when you combine sets #4816, #4817, #4818 and #4819 with all 4 chrome parts. There is a picture of him on the back of each box.

    @samiam391, @coachie, @greekmick - You guys all rock!!

You are also proof that not all AFOLs are getting caught up in the greed culture that seems to be so common these days.
I really really hope I can find a Mr Gold and do my bit too.

Not at the dame level as the others, but I can donate a zombie car (whatever it was called, not the coffin one. Although I can donate one of those as well) poly.

I've been racking my brains to think if I have anything sufficiently desirable to donate and all I can come up with is a new with tag Stig keychain, if you want if Kev?

    Phew!

Struggling to keep up here! @everyone, thank you thank you thank you :-) In view of the last half hour I'm not even sure we need a Mr Gold although of course it would rude to reject him ;-)

Only fair to clarify that my contribution is a BNIB Sopwith Camel #10226 . Little box crease on the box but to make up for that I'll include a spare sticker sheet.

I think I'll let the May 4th fanfare die down before firing the raffle up. Before then I'll decide how or even if to bundle prizes together or have them all as individuals. Sure to win all those chrome figures would be amazing but the winner might only need one and I like the idea of people having more opportunities to win.

It might be interesting (although labor intensive) to run individual raffles for each prize. That way instead of someone spending a dollar on the chance to win something, maybe they'll spend $10 to take a chance on the ten different items they are interested in. It's an interesting concept, but again I'm not sure how to run such a thing so maybe the execution of the idea would be too complicated.

I realize @samiam391 was just joking around, but I'm glad he directed my attention to this thread, as I'd also be happy to donate a polybag or two. I'll have to look when I get home, but off the top of my head I know I could give one of the target practice polys from way back when, a TC-14 or the first of the 2011 holiday bonus sets. I think I may also have a Wampa Cave in a slightly crushed box lying around, but I'll have to check.

I'd be happy to donate something to such a great cause, so let me know if you're interested in any of those.

    #40028 Mini Hogwarts Express

@y2josh any donation is greatly appreciated :-) Just let me know over the weeekend because I would like this to go live Monday.

With all these fantastic polys on offer I fear @atkinsar could be having palpitations ;-)

Don't worry Kev, I've already got 2 of the palpitations polybags.

Fantastic support from the Brickset community here, just amazing, warms the heart. I'd best have a dig around my spares and see what I can offer, will do so tonight and let you know.

I got really lucky today and found a Mr. Gold, but I couldn't bring myself to donate him. To combat my selfish actions, I'll donate some consolation prizes to be included in the raffle:

    #20018 Brickmaster AT-AT
    #20019 Brickmaster Slave 1
    #30059 MTT
    SirKevbagsLostInTranslationLegoboyrichoYellowcastlekiki180703
  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Member Posts: 4,027
@jadeirene It isn't selfish to want to keep him :-) Now selling him to buy one more ivory backscratcher, that would be selfish ;-)

Thanks for the prizes. They are much appreciated.
  • jadeirenejadeirene Member Posts: 474
^ I'm not buying an ivory backscratcher (2 is enough for me), but I did end up selling him. I really wanted to keep him, but I couldn't say no to the money that it's going for right now.

Are you going to be having multiple prizes for the raffle? If so, I can throw in a shirtless Darth Maul and a NY Yellow Cab poly as well. Others have already offered those so I didn't want to have duplicate items, but if they'll be split into separate prizes I'll add them to polys I listed above.

I'm going to offer up a sealed set of CMF series 2 to the raffle prize fund, seriously, what was I thinking, who needs a spare set of CMFs!?
    SirKevbagskiki180703
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
Okay. Not quite the treasure trove I'd hoped to donate, but I can do:

    #3300020 - 2011 Holiday Set 1 of 2
    #30062 - Target Practice

I'll also probably have an extra Hoth Han after the weekend, but I can't commit to that one yet.

I'm keen to help and will throw in a full set of Shell Ferrari Polys.

Also due to the awsome response from fellow brickseters willing to help me out with trying to get a discounted B-Wing this weekend (I know it may not even pan out, but I have had a number of offers which is cool) I would like to help out some more, @Kevbags do you have any idea of what kind of money you will be raising as I have a Monster Fighters The Zombies #9476 I am willing to donate, but I want to make sure you can raise a good amount of money. I'm thinking at least £500 maybe more? Or maybe have it as a bonus prize for all entrants who buy at least £5 or £10 worth of tickets. Just an idea but I will leave that up to you as I don't really want to put conditions on it.

I just don't want to donate stuff (including world wide postage) that I would have been better off just donating the cash directly to a charity.
    SirKevbags
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,258
A full set of ferrari polys! I really hope raffle prize fund contributors are not barred from entering, I wants me some of them.
  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Member Posts: 4,027
@atkinsar Fear not, prize contributors will not be barred. Only exclusion is if you're lucky enough to be drawn then you can't win your own prize.

Great job you are doing @kevbags, keep it up mate. I am planning a similar thing over here but only person who is willing to manage this and do donate is myself but I am sure the Brickset brethen will help me out at times of such needs....but I need to put in a system to keep things transparent and gain the trust and confidence first...

@atkinsar, I have some spare Shell Ferrari polys (6 cars) with me which I can post to you...I did post these to a few Bricksetters and the transaction went smooth :)

  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Member Posts: 4,027
Following the great prizes added from @Basta I'm going to close the opportunity for people to offer prizes now. I never thought I would say those words!

I hope people don't find that rude if they were thinking of offering something. I just think we already have so much fantastic stuff. Fear not though, when this is a roaring success (lets be confident) it will give us the excuse to do it all again next year so just put something to one side till 2014.

All prize givers I'm going to start a group PM just so we can discuss logistics.
