[US] Some Super Heroes & Monster Fighters red tagged @ Walmart?

SquareSideSquareSide Member Posts: 170
edited April 2013 in Shopping USA/Canada
Checked my local Walmart in Montana after work & this is what I can remember seeing red tagged(I don't follow the Monster sets so my memory on them is bad):

Batmobile & Two-Face $35 (Last one picked it up)
Catwomen Catcycle $9 (bought this)
Loki's Cosmic Cube $13
Monster Crazy Scientist $35
Vampire Hearse forgot price
Mummy $9?
Werewolf $13?
Swamp Creature $5?

Just a heads up for folks out there looking for them for a good price.

Saw the same at one of my local Walmarts. Vampire Hearse was $25.00 and the Capt America Cycle was $9.00.

I'll swing by a couple on my way home today. Thanks for the heads up.

Looking carefully into my crystal ball...

I see future posters writing that their Walmart had different things on sale. I see other posters claiming their Walmart had nothing on sale. I see lots of usage of the YMMV acronym. I see lots of wasted gas. I see dogs and cats living together.

MF line seems to be national. Checked all of my local WM and they're all marked down 30% or more.
  • legogrrl4legogrrl4 Member Posts: 42
The Vampire castle was also marked down at 69.99 at the WM near me.
  • psychopuppetpsychopuppet Member Posts: 71
The two of the three Walmart near me removed all the Monster Fighters stuff a few months back. Going to check the third as they have more shelf space .

Just in case someone is only interested in the Hearst and not having any luck in finding one at their local store, walmart.com has it for $27.97 + .97 shipping (or free shipping with site-to-store). Could also save a little bit with some cashback sites by ordering it online. May actually be cheaper for some folks by saving time and gas... ^_^

Ditto, except all three copies looked like they might have been resealed at some point. Does anybody have a sealed copy on hand? All three appeared to have a second piece of LEGO tape over each of the seals on one just one end, with a different lot number on both sides.

I only want a copy for personal use, but likely will not build it until closer to Halloween. I guess I could pick one up, crack the seals, and then return it if it's not complete. Anyone have experience on doing this?

And yeah, what MF they had was 30% off. Some Super Heroes stuff as well. Walked out empty handed as I already had everything but the VC that was on sale.

    Store is in Madison, WI

The Monster Fighter stuff at the third Walmart had been cleaned out except the Swamp Creature. All of the tags still up. Ghost Train if you can find one is $54.00 and Quinjets are marked $49.00 . There was a tag for 5766-1 Log Cabin said $21.00. Someone cleaned it out.

I've had no issue returning Lego sets that was incomplete back to WM. I just told the CSR that it's missing pieces, and they put on a tag indicating so (hopefully so it doesn't get put back on the shelves again).

Stockton, CA (Hammer Ln) has the MFs marked down. Only Super Heroes set marked down was Captain America's at $9. There's several 2012 SW Advents at $17 but they're all torn or lifted tape and I wouldn't trust them being complete.

My Walmart didn't have the sale prices listed. However, all the MF were on sale and some of the Super Hero sets. Just had to price check everything to see what kind of deal I could get. Also had Jabba's Palace for $95.

^ Ditto here in Indianapolis. Seems pretty consistent everywhere - MF and several SH sets on 30% off.

LOl, dude... spot on! BUT it is a good thread (as are other WM threads) for other members to post their finds to save that very gas that will be idly wasted going from store to store looking for the next great deal... If we all share,, we all benefit. YMMV, there, I said it...

The walmart post-holiday sales this year were the most exciting time I've had as a Lego collecter. I love hearing about what people found and where and the posts did help me and motivate me. I'm looking forward to the stock reset this summer.

This appears to be sarcasm but I LOVE these threads.

My son has really wanted the laboratory. I was able to find that at 30%. I really waffled back and forth on a second Castle. I already have one that I Snagged last year for almost 1/2 off.

It wasn't sarcasm. Dogs and cats do live together, it's crazy.

The biggest problem with most retailers is that they always have things on clearance, and even when there is a "clearance event," it's a crap shoot what you'll actually find from store to store. Of course you're right though, because when you do find gems, it's pretty cool. Then again, finding what you want on sale as opposed to what you think you want just because you found it on sale, well, those are two different things. One leaves you super happy, the other leaves you saddled with Pharaoh Quest or Atlantis.

I found out this morning that this is a YMMV, as a Wal-Mart I stopped at on the way to work had no sets on sale at all (and I scanned a good basket-full).
Oh, well, better I save the money for the Lone Ranger sets anyway.
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
I love Wal-Mart. All Lego items in the Clearance section were 3 cents off. Meanwhile some MF and SH items were 30% off in the main isle as stated commonly above.

Stopped at 3 in the past 24 hours. As Meatloaf says, "Two outta three ain't bad".

    Thanks for posting this info.
I managed to get the last Vampyre's Castle at my Wal-Mart and it was indeed $69.99.
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
Definitely appreciate people posting their finds. I had a friend pick me up 2 more Helm's Deep a few weeks ago for $57 each because someone else on another forum mentioned it.
  • ZonZon Member Posts: 213
I was hoping Wolverine's Chopper Showdown or Cosmic Cube Escape were going to be marked down, but no luck! Snagged a few Captain America's and a Catwoman Chase though. Thanks for the tip!
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
^Me too. I have a feeling, those are just going to disappear quietly. Maybe, just maybe we'll see them for $15.

From what's been said in the recent posts it sounds pretty random as what SuperHeroes/Monster Fighters are on clearance. I stopped by my closest WM today found Marvel SuperHeroes...no Batman related...all Monster Fighters, and some Star Wars 20% off. This WM has it all...just some stuff not clearance yet( ie Batcave, Cosmic Cube)

    Super Heroes
#6858 Catwoman Catcycle City Chase $9
    #6865 Captain America's Avenging Cycle $9
    #6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown $13
    #6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle $49

    Monster Fighters
    #9461 The Swamp Creature $5
    #9462 The Mummy $7
    #9463 The Werewolf $13
    #9464 The Vampyre Hearse $25
    #9466 The Crazy Scientist $35
    #9467 Ghost Train $54
    #9468 Vampyre Castle $69

    Star Wars (20% off)
    #9499 Gungan Ship $55.xx
    #9500 Sith-Fury Class $ 72.xx
    #9515 Malevolence $95.96
    #9516 Jabbas Palace $95.96

^ I picked up #6858, #6865, and #6866 for the above prices. I'm hoping to find a good price on #6868 Hulk Helicarrier Breakout one of these days.

Glad I didn't find all those deals. I'd hate to sneak another giant load of sets into the house at night. Then hide the credit card bills.

Confirmed at Walmart in Lansing... Got the crazy scientist at $35!
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 835
I happened to find all of the listed above at my local WM. This WM rarely clearances anything...the shelves are usually empty after X-Mas. I ended up only getting 2 Vampyre Castles (left 2), #9466(left 4), #9464(left 5) and 2 #6866.
What's worth getting at 30% off??
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
In Denver, all MF also are 30% off, the SW listed above, also at 20% off, the only SH discount was #6865 Captain America's Avenging Cycle $9, all the others rang at full price.

They had about 15 #9467 piled on top of each others and the rest of the set were also fully stocked expect for the Mummy (1 open box left) and JP (all gone).
  • HokieJoe99HokieJoe99 Member Posts: 351
The Star Wars 20% off is more of a rollback rather than clearance. I have seen these prices consistently at all Walmarts.

The Monster Fighters and Superheros % off deals are clearances and vary store to store. I have seen these prices at some Walmarts, others have the normal Walmart price ($.02 less than RRP), and other Walmarts have prices that were better than the previous posts.
  • TheMurmurTheMurmur Member Posts: 90
The Batcaves that have been sitting in the clearance aisle at my Walmart at RRP were finally actually clearanced down to $50, everything else was still full price.

So I always read these US clearance shopping threads with some envy as its not often we in Australia get better deals then US retail price, let alone clearance prices.

Earlier in the week though, Target over here had some sets on clearance, I picked up #9500 Sith-Fury Class for $63.80 AUD & the Highway Pickup #7347 for $39.90AUD and Although my stores didn't have any, the Vampire Castle was $68AUD.

Anyway just thought I'd mention it, as it was quite exciting. :)

A little "caveat emptor" as always at Wallyworld: I picked up two Castles and was heading to checkout, checked the seals... Looked sketchy, double-taped but using two layers of LEGO seals, basically a very good reseal. Hmm...

Go to the service desk, wait, wait, wait, explain to the manager the situation (takes a few times for her to get what I'm saying: she likens it to somebody who tried to return an iPad case full of paper), she says she won't discount but will let me open them. First box has TWO bag 5, other box is okay. Very strange. And the bags were "new" new, if anyone else knows what I mean. And the boxes had the non-glow stickers and box art. Not at all what I was expecting, but glad I was cautious. Funny, because at first the manager was standoffish, like I was trying to get something for nothing, but she was thanking me repeatedly for my "expertise" at the end.

So one copy of the set had two bag 5s and nothing else was missing? I ask because I picked up several with double seals but only opened one so far and it was okay. Of the 9 I purchased this week, 4 had double seals. What were the batch numbers on yours?
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
All have both 02R3 and 49R2 on one side. The seals are one on top of another. Only one has just the 02R3 seal, and they all have non glowing box art. The older glowing box art set (single-sealed...odd that I have to specify that!) is 27R2. What I saw did not appear at all to be a reseal-return scam. The missing bag 6 is nothing special in itself. Some of the double-sealed boxes I got are so banged up I'll probably open them as soon as I get the chance.
  • BrickDaddyBrickDaddy Member Posts: 13
My double-sealed boxes have the same batch numbers so it seems to be a legit factory replacement kind of thing. Interesting that the boxes here were banged up too. Think these were sent back to LEGO as defective, they were fixed, and then sold as new to retailers? Kind of like selling refurbished product as new...
  • SarahIsabellaSarahIsabella Member Posts: 69
The one I picked up had the double seals too. I was wary, but it had all 7 original bags, 2 loose roof pieces, manuals and sticker sheet still sealed as well.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
Checking more, I also have 03R3 and 48R2 with new box art, and that is what is on the one I opened. I havent opened any others. Yet.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
So the double sealed thing appears to be common. Guess I'm heading out to Walmart to pick up one now.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Yeah, I can confirm that all of the ones I have purchased looked to be double sealed too. I've encountered it before with the Podracer set that just went EOL. Several of mine are double sealed and upon inspecting one of them, it had 1 extra bag 4s. So double sealed may increase the likely hood of bonus LEGO :)
  • adamintxadamintx Member Posts: 21
My Walmart had the Mummy set and the Black Lagoon looking creature set for $2.00 each. My wife picked them up. They had a random Catwoman Cycle chase set sitting on the shelf with the rest so the clerk gave it to her for $2.00 as well. It was a nice surprise she brought home. I went back to look for other clearance stuff but I found the catwoman set was actually supposed to be nine bucks.

Got the werewolf for $13,hearse for $25,ghost train for ,$54 all at local wallmart.
  • RomanticWarriorRomanticWarrior Member Posts: 248
Was at Walmart for something else, and when I came home, told the wife that they had gotten rid if all of their MF sets. She asked me if there were any I didn't have that I really want. I told her the Ghost Train. About 30 minutes later she told me there was one waiting for me at another Walmart about 15 miles away. She had "site to store"ed it. :)

I was trying to score #9468 Vampyre Castle for $69. But sadly the two boxes my Walmart had were opened. So I didn't get them for fear that some bags would be missing.
  • meyerc13meyerc13 Member Posts: 227
I bet the double-sealed Castles are a manufacturing change due to the glow-in-the-dark paint/ink problem they had, which would make this a normal and expected thing for the sets that were produced later.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
^If they are already opened, dump and search right there. If you suspect tampering (and really want it, and have oodles of time), take it to the service desk, explain to a manager, then open and search. An open Milennium Falcon was in a WM clearance aisle (red tagged for full price), I showed the manager that it was missing minifigs, he gave it to me for $50. Just make sure if you're going to involve management you don't have anything else planned for the day.
