My complaint with USPS is that home printed postage doesn't tell when the package was actually mailed, and even if tracking is put on it they aren't scanned until delivery so they might as well not bother. An item bought on ebay 3/16 finally arrived 4/2, mailed within the same state, while another item bought the same day has never arrived. I'm still negotiating with the buyer on how to proceed.

An eBay buyer returned me a small item damaged in shipping. Shipping label was printed from eBay, no added insurance as Priority Mail now includes insurance up to $50.
I filed claim from USPS.com for $15 (no pieces lost, just a damaged box and one of the bag pop open), added a picture. I did that with no hope but to my surprise yesterday I got a check from USPS for $15.

Tracking is put on the moment it's scanned in, via the carrier or the counter. This should (and does) show up in the tracking summary. If you want proof at the counter, you can ask for a receipt. I don't think carriers can provide receipts.

Btw, always try to ship and get shipped via priority. They are handled much better than parcel selct packages. Vertical across the US is usually not too bad, but crossing the Rockies really jacks up the priority mail cost on larger boxes.

I'm just happy that the USPS finally decided to automatically include what every other major shipper already did, and that's package tracking/delivery confirmation.

Not sure if this helps but instead of printing the shipping label through ebay, log onto Paypal (if that is where you received the payment) and print it through there. I've noticed that when I print it through Paypal, the printout has the label on one half and a receipt on the other with the tracking details. When I print through ebay I only get the label. Not sure why that is.

As to the original post I agree that a video won't do anything and seems a little over the top. All you can do is make sure you send the product to the Paypal address and make sure it is confirmed. Also send with some sort of tracking. If it is $250 or over get an adult signature confirmation. Also pick up insurance.

I usually pick up the tab on insurance on all my sales. It makes me feel better and make the customer happy. If insurance rates are too high try a 3rd party vendor like insurepost. I use them from time to time and their rates are pretty good. They even offer insurance on international 1st class mail which USPS does not. Only drawback is they only offer to limited amount of countries.

I have a customer in Australia who wants me to use his FedEx account for shipping. It sounds like I fill out a consignment form at a FedEx center with his account info. Any gotchas or costs on my end for this?

Yes, I wouldn't do it if you don't know the buyer and it is an expensive purchase.

When you ship on someone else's account, you lose all control over the shipment, you don't have the same rights with FedEx/UPS as you would if you shipped on your own account.

Most of the time, it is no big deal, however given the risk of funny business with expensive LEGO, I'd advise caution.

Keep in mind that if you take payment via PayPal, the problem is, even if you mark "signature required", because it is the buyer's FedEx account, they can alter the shipment midway, they can reroute it, etc. This can cause problems if the buyer then claims non-receipt.

If this is a $100 item, sure, I'd ship it. If it is a $1,000 item, no way.

    Just my opinion...
