It is not illegal to run a raffle in the UK, but it is against ebay policy. Law and rules are different things! Ebay could shut it down as it is against their rules, but he cannot be arrested for doing it.

As a seller these non-paying 'buyers' had had be stung several times. Lego is just a hobby Im not a collector or a complete enthusiast. Im just out of the dark ages as Ive seen a few of you call it and looking to build my lego collection again. Im not much interested in the space stuff. Not looking to profiteer but I like to make just enough to invest in more of the bricks I want. These non paying buyers getting off scott free is extremely frustrating. Ebay really needs to get that sorted!

^^ Under the Gambling Act it is illegal to run a lottery for personal profit. A raffle is a lottery.

^ Indeed, and there's also a massive amount of rules about when and where you can sell tickets and how the draw takes places etc. Its a massive minefield and i suspect the majority of village raffles fall way short.

Yes, you're right. I read it as a charity raffle. I just realised you said 10% to charity, not 100%.

There is also the price problem - I think there is a limit of £1 per ticket - which is why people often sell books of five tickets for £5 rather than one ticket for £5, but also allow people to buy tickets for £1, to get around this.

Indeed, it seemed a bit of a strange one. And the seller has been selling Lego previously. If it were a proper bit of account compromise going on, you'd have thought that the fraudster would have made more of it.

(I should probably add that while it all seems highly suspicious to me, there is no proof anything illegal has happened / is happening (yet))

I don't know about everyone else but i think the cost for the nytf 2012 minifigures with and without bag/lanyard have been high considering they appear to be less in demand (ppl are not paying what sellers are asking for. mostly) I remember when $2500-$3000+ was the standard and now ppl are still trying to charge that much but aren't selling and they wont budge on price.
I am sorry for the loss in value or how much you paid but thats the risk when you buy/sell collectibles.

That must have been a first class ticket to Canada he had to buy to be assured he got the only Lego set for sale on that flight, hence the high price. I'm surprised he didn't ask for "one hundred meelion dollars" whilst pointing his little finger towards his mouth.
