Thanks for the update and the kind words, it's a free app and the only payment I need is the adoration of the masses to know people like it and find it useful. :)

What you should do Rik, is create a tweak to force an automatic update for those that have already downloaded here today to help increase the online downloads. Or did I just say something so stupidly obvious that that would be the case anyway? ;-)
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
Unfortunately downloads & reviews only count once per user (not even once per device), so once you've got a copy any future updates or installations on other devices won't count towards the totals.

Is anyone having trouble seeing their collectable minifigs? I've had a couple of reports on Google Play saying it's not working in 1.4 - it's working for me and I have no way of getting in touch with the people who left the reports to ask them for more info or log files.
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,827
    ^ All good for me.
  • LegopantsLegopants Member Posts: 2,097
Just downloaded the updated version. No problems encountered yet.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
Thanks folks. I can't think of any way it can't work (it uses the same code as the rest of the sets). Will take another look at the code when I get home, but think it'll be a case of waiting to see if anyone mails me about the issue. Am hoping it's user error..
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
It's official - according to Google, myBrickset hit 100 reviews on December 14th and passed 10000 independent installs on December 28th! So if everyone who installed is a member of Brickset, that's 20% of the site's members now using myBrickset :)

Thanks for making my Christmas everyone :) Keep the reviews & requests coming, and have a happy Lego filled New Year!

For some reason I've never heard of this app. Maybe its because I finally got a smart phone this holiday season. Needless to say I just downloaded the app! Looking forward to checking out the features!

@RikTheVeggie I downloaded my brickset on my hubby's new tablet on the 28th
    I loving it

How should I use the function "Favourite Set" correctly? This list becomes empty every time I restart the app. Otherwise it is an excellent app - easy to use and fast! Thank you so much RikTheVeggie!
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
@pjpp - yeah, that's a bug - sorry! It should only reset for sets which are updated from Brickset IIRC, not every time you open the app. It should be fixed in the next release.
  • BombTecBombTec Member Posts: 110
@RikTheVeggie - Works like a champ! The only suggestion I have would be a way to incorporate the theme/subtheme into the sets owned or a popup that jumps straight to a letter to search. It takes me a bit to scroll through my list.

    Great App regardless, Thanks!!
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
@BombTec - glad you like it :) I'm planning on reworking set results to group results (eg, headers for Theme names) but it'll be a while until I can get around to this. In the mean time, if you want to just see sets from specific themes then you can use the search functionality.
A 'jump to' popup sounds interesting, I'll see what I can do!

@pjpp - I double-checked last night and the issue is definitely fixed in the next release. I'm planning on releasing it around the end of February, but this date is fluid and dependent upon how much time I can get to work on the app.

Whilst I'm here, is there any demand for 'in progress' builds? ie, ones with the latest functionality and bug fixes but which may not be as stable as official releases? Or would people rather wait until the end of a dev cycle and grab the release candidates / final builds?

I notice this is not in Amazon's app store. I wanted to grab it on my wife's Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and either would have to get the APK to sideload or have it approved on the app store. Here is the link to get started:

    https://developer.amazon.com/welcome.html

If you want someone to test, we have an original (2011) Kindle Fire which runs gingerbread and the KFHD 8.9 which runs ICS. I'm going to send you an email on the support email as well.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
Following on from colin1497's request, myBrickset is now on the Amazon App Store: http://www.amazon.com/Richard-Lockwood-OTIS-Soft-myBrickset/dp/B00BDUFKVK

I don't have a kindle myself but early reports are that it works fine.
  • colin1497colin1497 Member Posts: 2
I've just given it a cursory overview on both of my devices from sideloading, as I've been a bit distracted over the last week. I was able to search for a set that my son has, add it to my brickset profile, sync, and pull it up on the other device. I was surprised that I had to manually sync it. Would be nice if changes could be pushed out to the server more automatically and if it could check for changes without a manual sync.

I haven't really done a lot more with it at this point, but I grabbed it on the appstore just now and will update when I get home and play.

Lately the prices of newly synched sets have been completely wrong. It looks like a wrong locale used to interpret prices from from brickset. so insted of 19 euro 99 cents , it will say 1 999 euro. I'm in belgium, the local way of typing numbers is with a , as decimal separator and a . between thousands. I'm using mybrickset all the time when I'm in stores to see if the price on a particular set is actually good or not. It's a great app, thank you

@dit - Thanks for the info, I'll take a look. Is it really showing Euros though? It should only display GBP, USD and CAN currently but it's possible I messed up with the locale display (I've asked Huw to get Euro prices for me if he can). If you get chance could you forward a screenshot or photo of the issue to [email protected] and I'll look into it.
  • ditdit Member Posts: 2
it doesn't say euro, but i exchange 1 euro for 1 dollar in my head. For example set 50006 has a price of $199,899.00 displayed in the app at this moment

    Great App! Love it!
I have one request for an improvement. The posibility of downlaoding other users wanted lists. I often buy my brother lego for birthdays and christmas and having his wantedlist at hand in the local store would be a great use of the app on my behalf.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
    edited February 2013
@EspenOst - atm you can 'sign out' of the app (the option's in the menu on the main screen) and then 'sign in' with your brother's details (you'll need his password). After syncing the app will then show his sets (including wanted list). Signing back in with your own account will show your sets again.

I can look at changing the app to allow other accounts be added 'read only' so you can view other people's sets without accidentally changing them - this will still require the password to be entered the first time though. Is there any demand for such a feature?

Alternatively, I could look at implementing read-only access to people on your Brickset friend's list who have made their sets viewable, but this would require a lot of work from Huw. If several people post or PM me asking for this functionality I'll see what I can do!

Almost forgot - the pricing issue dit mentioned is resolved and will be in the next release (rc coming soon).

For those of you that have been waiting, here is the release candidate of the upcoming release: myBrickset 1.6 rc1 (37.7MB)

It should install on top of any existing release without a problem, please give it a go and let me know of any problems! Either drop a comment here, send me a PM or mail me at [email protected]

    Included you will find:
Bug fixes (including prices now display correctly for non-English locales - thanks for your help debugging this @dit!; and sets now retain their 'favourite' status - thanks @pjpp!).
Collectable Minifigures now have 'parts' images, courtesy of @WhiteFang (many thanks for permission to use them!). This should make trips to feel-up the CMFs a bit easier for everyone!
Totally reworked Set Details page, now looks much (much) better than before.
Screen layouts have been improved for Landscape orientation.
LEGO Set Description available for many sets.
Sets can be marked as 'gift'.
Performance tweaks (including much improved image downloading).
Can search on sets marked as 'built' & 'gift', as well as sets that have instructions.

Downloaded and installed in my Samsung Galaxy S2. So far so good. Thanks for the great apps. Have you considered including other minifigs theme (database) in your apps?
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
@tcleong - thanks for testing :) Do you mean you'd like to see (non-CMF) minifigs (such as these) in the app?

I'd like to include them, but unfortunately Huw does not own copyright on the images so is unable to let me use them and I've been unable to get permission from the original source or find an alternate source.

^ I'm probably misunderstanding something, but what's the point of being able to search, update, and otherwise manage a person's minifig collection (as allowed via the Brickset web services) if you can't actually use it? Or does that just include the data and not the pictures?
  • tcleongtcleong Member Posts: 19
@RikTheVeggie - Yes, I was referring to non-CMF, similar to what we see on "Unofficial Lego Minifigure Catalog" apps. Anyway, thanks for the efforts and explanations.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
@Joseph - you are correct that the webservice allows apps to manage the minifigure collection, but it does not come with permission to use the minifigure images. So I could display names of the minifigs owned and allow their status to be updated but I couldn't display the images unless I sourced them elsewhere.

As an example, the commercial "Unofficial Lego Minifigure Catalog" apps that tcleong mentioned uses their own photos.

myBrickset 1.6 rc2 (37.8MB) - includes some small fixes and minor functionality I wanted to add. Barring any problems this will be pushed out to Google & Amazon as 1.6 in a couple of days.

I just installed the update above; first I think that the set details page looks much nicer than before. Second, you might want to know that several images for CMF series 9 are mixed up. For example the fortune teller has the judge's image, the judge has Mr. Good/Evil's image etc. Actually the only ones that are correct (aside from the parts images) are those for the waiter and the Mermaid.

Also, I wanted to put in a request for future updates: would it be possible to add an option for displaying the barcode on the set details page? This would help greatly when trying to find sets in certain stores.
  • JosephJoseph Member Posts: 629
    edited February 2013
Actually, it seems to be more than just series 9. Here's a list of the CMF images that are mixed up for me:
All of series 3 except space villain
All of series 4 except sailor and kimono girl
    All of series 6
All of series 7 except bunny suit guy
All of series 8 except diver
All of team GB except for judo fighter and tennis player
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
@Joseph - thanks for the detailed testing :) are the images bad in rc1 or rc2? I noticed they were wrong in rc1 (don't know how they got mixed up) but should all be fixed now in rc2. Clicking on the down arrow on the minifig image should show parts now too (except for Team GB, WhiteFang hasn't published his review yet).
  • JosephJoseph Member Posts: 629
    edited February 2013
^ Actually it was in rc2. And yes, even in the ones with incorrect main image have the correct parts image.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
Forgot to say, I'll take a look at including the barcode - just the numbers, or displayed graphically? May have to put it on a separate screen or popup though (and many sets still don't have this data unfortunately).

Glad you like the new layout on the Set Detail page, it's a huge improvement on what was there before.
  • JosephJoseph Member Posts: 629
    edited February 2013
^ I'd prefer that the barcodes be displayed graphically; that way people can scan it to check price/availability in store.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
Thanks for confirming the image issue. It looks fine here so I'm wondering if there's a bad image in your cache folder. Could you try one of the following please:

    1. From the main screen, go to menu | Settings and enable Advanced Options. Go back to the main screen, into Advanced and run 'Download Missing Thumbs'.

    2. Go to your Android\data\uk.co.otissoft.mybrickset\files\Pictures\sm folder - there are probably images in here like 8683-4.jpg. Remove all the images from this folder.

Hopefully that'll fix your issue. If so, the root problem is that sets were renumbered at some point. I can write something to clean out 'old' images from this folder whenever the app starts.

I've made your barcode changes, please see the attached images. Selecting the barcode image on the set screen pops up the dialog with the barcodes for the set. Hopefully that's what you're looking for? I've checked and the codes do scan!
  • JosephJoseph Member Posts: 629
Yep, option number one was a bit slow, but that fixed it.
Also, that's exactly the type of thing I was looking for with the barcodes. Thanks for adding that!
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
Excellent, glad that fixed it and many thanks for helping me resolve the issue. I've coded something now to run in the background and remove old images when the app starts so no-one else should see the issue.

I'll try and upload rc3 tomorrow so you can try out the new barcode functionality.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
myBrickset 1.6 rc3 (37.9 MB) - here it is, hopefully the final rc and proof why beta testing is a very good idea!

    Changes from rc2 are:
'old' images are now automatically cleaned up, should save a bit of disk space and stop old images from showing (especially for CMFs).
barcodes can now be viewed graphically from the set details screen (see ^^^ for screenshots).
  • tcleongtcleong Member Posts: 19
    Installed 1.6 rc3. The CMF pictures for 8803, 8804, 8827, 8831, 8833, 71000 & Team GB are all mixed up.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
@tcleong - ah, I think I might know what's going on - the change I introduced only deletes thumbnails and not high quality images. If possible could you go to "Android\data\uk.co.otissoft.mybrickset\files\Pictures\lg" and see if there any images in there for 8803 etc? If so, just delete them and the issue should resolve itself (and I'll have to change the app to fix the issue).
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
^ if you can't access that folder, just run 'Download Missing Thumbs' as described above. In either case, please let me know if it resolves the issue - I have a fix coded already so hopefully it does!
  • tcleongtcleong Member Posts: 19
Problem fixed by following the instructions. Thanks.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
Thanks for confirming, I'll get rc4 ready.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
myBrickset 1.6 rc4 (37.9MB) - the same as rc3 except I expanded the CMF fix to remove all cached CMF images (large or small) when 1.6 is first run.
  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
myBrickset 1.6 is now available in Google Play and will be in the Amazon App Store shortly. Thanks to everyone who helped test or reported issues.

1.6 contains many new features, enhancements and bug fixes - I strongly urge everyone to update asap. lease let me know if you have any problems.
  • sicherlsicherl Member Posts: 5
    thank you for your work.
it would be nice if you can add price in euro and show only one currency.
i wish me too, to get a actually packet from all large pictures for offline use.

  • RikTheVeggieRikTheVeggie Member Posts: 356
@sicherl - glad to hear you like the app and thanks for the feedback.
I retrieve prices directly from brickset. So how about it @Huw, any chance of getting Euro prices? :)
Filtering by currency will be in a future release.
And all fullsize images add up to several GB!!
