Has anyone built this yet? I have been trying to wait for double vip points but a little voice in my head keeps telling me to get it now to get the helicopter for my boy. Also the advance release is nice but I sort of wished they would have treated it like a movie premier and given out pre screening passes and/or life size movie posters like those in the set.

Well here in Munich we are actually get some nice things this weekend for the new store grand opening and that the set was released early for VIP customers was just an added bonus! also I have posted a picture of all the Modulars together here!

Put mine together this evening, I am impressed.

The red carpet is cool and the downstairs has that "airy" feel you would expect from a cinema, the brick built doors are really clever (a la town hall but better in my view). some nice new parts - tan profile bricks, loads of dark tan (inc 1x8s), med blue plates, etc. the exterior of the upstairs is not that interesting but you can get through it pretty quickly (so not unlike GE), leaving the canopy and the lettering until book 3 was great as it kept up the excitement. The interior is spacious and still leaves some room, might want to think about modding it slightly and adding a few extra touches

Stickers are ok - so on the windows they could have made a white or black "glass" panel and printed on it, but once you've got the stickers applied to both sides I can't see it being a big issue. In the frames they should keep stuck, too. The one on the movie screen is the only one toyed with not sticking, but who wants to watch a blank screen...

For me the limo is the worst bit, just lacks any real proportion and doesn't have enough detail, eg relative to the fire truck or the snow plough in the WVC.

Overall it has a nice mid size feel, which I suppose supports the price tag, particularly relative to the town hall.

Sorry, waffling on - almost a mini review ;-) .. so I'd say go for it!

Now having my hands on the set, I have to say that while it is very nice indeed, it could certainly be better. The interior for a start needs to be completely torn out and started again if you ask me. The car to me is a pointless extra really, so I wish that the actual model could have been a bit more substantial inside at the expense of that vehicle. Nevertheless, I love the appearance of the exterior and it looks brilliant alongside the other modular buildings.

I think Ill be waiting on this one for double points to buy one for sure, but any others and it is better to wait for a Walmart or Amazon sale (maybe TRU if they do not start excluding mods from BOGO sales... and start their sales at 12am EDT like they used to)

Hi all, I picked this up today from the Milton Keynes store, used 30 of my VIP points against it so got it for £90, anyway when I got home I noticed that the box is missing the set title and piece count from the printing, 16+ and 10232 is on there but nothing else, which I thought was odd, has anyone else noticed that or know why that might be?

I'm actually pretty okay with the first floor, but I do agree about the second floor's interior, which, for me, will prevent this from overtaking Fire Brigade as my favorite. The first floor just feels 'right' to me for some reason, but the necessity of stairs and the smaller footprint for the building really make the screening room more difficult to pull off.

I just picked mine up today- if your going to get it early with VIP- they only limit you to 2 of the set
  • CapnRex101CapnRex101 Administrator Posts: 2,364
@y2josh - The ground floor to me is a little bit too sparse, at least I would have hoped for a rug or something of that sort rather than just a plain (and gaudy) red floor. The first floor really is a tough one, quite how I would change it to improve the design I am not too sure, but at least one more row of seats can be quite easily added.

I would say check amazon FIRST. sometimes they offer a decent discount that beats any price you can get directly through lego, unless you have massive vip points to utilize. It even beats double points and/or a free polybag set.

At a guess it's bringing it into line with the rest of the UK Lego line, which doesn't include set name or piece count. It was only the 'Exclusives' that did, and I'm supposing that's because they used the same box design worldwide. Now that they're using the 'Creator Expert' line for them, I'm guessing they decided to remove set name and piece count, as with every other theme.

My box has the same as always, set name, piece count, 16+ and the set #. Maybe it's different because I am in the US. ??

Bought mine at the Bellevue, WA store on the 14th. Only issue I had was one of the 1x6 black arches for the car was bent completely in half. Never have seen that before :)

I got mine at a store in Maryland (idk if that makes a difference) and mine has the set name and everything

Mini Review: Love that there is no tedious repetitive steps (ie: do this 8x). There aren't too many interesting building techniques on the first two floors. The fun part is all in the 3rd book (roof/sign/canopy).

I can't wait to print out mini movie posters for the windows, as well as a tiny screen-cap for inside.
Serenity is probably going to be playing on opening night :)

A light brick for the projector would be cool. Make is shine through a printed/stickered trans clear panel like in the Agents Mobile Command Center.

Got mine as a Valentine gift from the wife and built it this past weekend. I really enjoyed the build and love the colors. One slight problem, the ticket counters were different colors (one light grey and one reddish brown). Of course LEGO is sending me the correct one and thankfully it is very easy to replace.

Can't WAIT to put some of Olly Moss or Tyler Stouts Star Wars images in the poster frames.

I am going to save the stickers and not put them on right away, see how it looks, then maybe grab some custom ones and see how it goes. YOLO.
  • Si_UKNZSi_UKNZ Member Posts: 4,179
Is it possible to mod it so it has a window with a gap behind it where the poster does, so you can slot different posters in and out as you like? Or does it already allow that 'out of the box'?
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
Nope @Si_Dorking_Surrey_UK it is a glass door piece that pops in the door frame. The stickers go one both sides of the piece so the "movie posters" show on both the inside and outside of the theater. The marquis are stickers on a 2x4 tile
  • emilewskiemilewski Member Posts: 482
^ I wonder if you could mod it by replacing the type 2 door frame with a type 1 and putting in two pieces of glass, with a custom poster between...?

I ended up ordering it with some extra money I had. Not gotten around to building yet as unfortunate circumstances have made it not a good time for building. Hopefully this weekend will be better to as I am looking forward to it. Once the points apply to my account I plan on getting one other modular. Is it normal it to take a few days for points to apply when ordering from [email protected] now? Every other time I think it's been two days at the most.

I usually notice the points get added once the lego is delivered/invoiced.

  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
Stars with little 1x1 bricks printed on them. Going for a 'Walk of Fame' feel.

The set has actually grown on me over the last few days, I was originally impressed by the outside, but not the inside, now however I am starting to appreciate the interior a little more. Externally, it is by far my favourite of the Modular Buildings. Internally it probably comes behind the Green Grocer, Pet Shop and Fire Brigade in my opinion.
  • BRCBRC Member Posts: 125
I'm hoping to get this set soon, it looks awesome.

GG has a grandfather's clock, rug, fireplace, and a first floor store. I think PC beats it out easily on the inside. PS and FB makes sense.

@burnsider - Whereas in the Palace Cinema most of the interesting architecture is on the outside, I think there are plenty of nice details inside the Green Grocer, such as the supports for the bannisters which capture the carved wood appearance very well, the curtains and the fireplace. The radiator too I think is a brilliant inclusion.

@CapnRex101 - I just wish they would have had more mini builds in the GG. Most of the floor is empty. I had to add a few mods here and there to really make it look nice.

One thing that's been really grinding away at me is the System-style 'façade' construction on the roof. Once combined with the other modulars, it's really noticeable that this is the ONLY one that can't be viewed from every angle and still look 'right.' So that's probably my one huge gripe with this set, and the first thing that's really made me question the inclusion of the rather uninspired limo.
  • PicopiratePicopirate Member Posts: 325
^ I see your point but a number of real buildings have similar facade elements. I work in a tall building and when I look down many of the other buildings, they just look like boxes with ficades.
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
Take a look on the backside of Las Vegas Strip... HAHA, yeahhhhh. I agree with @picopirate
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
I agree that the steeple (or whatever its called) is kind of janky looking when viewed from the side. Look at pictures of the Graumann's Chinese Theater and you'll see that the steeple curves towards the bottom. The Cinema Palace is straight. It makes it look more like a barn instead of a pagoda.

I was TOTALLY going to wait for double points before buying Palace Cinema...then tonight I went to the Downtown Disney Lego store...saw it...couldn't resist! Can hardly wait to start building it!

Or perhaps create your posters to enable them to hang inside the windows in the same way the curtains hang on the #10220. Some of the more traditional theatres still do this.

I was trying to hold out but went to a club event today and caved. I asked him which set we should get (assuming he would pick a city set) and he said either the vw camper van or the palace cinema. He helped with car and the later built half the roof.

I ended up creating a lobby display with the brick separator...
