#4641 - I bought five of these when they were 50% off. Cannot get rid of them. Fortunately it was only a tenner for all five! That set taught me never to buy lego just because it is cheap, if I don't actually want it.

When starting out I think everyone makes the same mistake of buying too many misc. sets just because they are on sale or seem like a good investment. It takes a little while to figure out exactly what you personally like (not what everyone tells you to like). For example I went through a castle phase, but now I look at all the bley bricks and it's just kind of depressing. I'm also in the minority in that I really don't care for the modular series. They are fun to build but rather monotonous to display. I like sets that are architecturally interesting or different. Fallingwater is one of my current favorite sets. I also like classic space. Or anything white. Imperial Shuttle is another favorite.

I really regret buying used sets on enay... Though it was the only way to get the sets, its new bricks alone that makes me happy ;-)

Beside that I find the Lego brick games miserable. Especially the3853 Banana Balance, it's utterly crab!

I regret getting two AC Motherships. I got them at 50% and for resale, but the money could have been better spent elsewhere. My Winter Cottage I loved to build too, but I really have no room for it in my xmas display with the other three Winter Village sets as it is too crowded. So that is one I should have skipped even though I love the series.

You are definitely entitled to your opinion, but I find it hard to believe that someone can find the modulars architecturally unappealing, yet find a giant white spaceship with no interior more interesting to display.

I own all the modulars and have them all displayed together on one long shelf along with the Haunted House. I also own the IS, which is displayed next to the UCS B-wing on another shelf. Of all the sets I own and display, the modulars are the number one thing people ask most about when they visit my place and view my collection. They are always blown away when when I remove each level and show them the interiors. The IS is a giant white ship with huge wings and a small cockpit. That's it, there's nothing else to it.

My problem with the modulars is that they are too conservatively designed. And it's gotten worse since it appears that Jamie Berard has little to do with them anymore. At least the Haunted House broke free from the rigid stacked design. But even then it looks just like every other haunted house. Surprisingly the most distinct looking modular is the one everyone likes the least and that's Market Street.

The IS appeals to me. Maybe it's the sheer size of it. The "whiteness" of it. And the fact that it doesn't necessarily look like a Star Wars ship.

Lol, not sure if I would say I "regret" buying Cars sets, but I did buy some at the end of last year for 75% off (AU RRP). Unfortunately I only got 3 x #8679 Tokyo International Circuit ($40) but 7 x #8639 Big Bentley Bust Out ($30). #8679 sold better and easier at around $80-$95 but #8639 I only got $45-$55 and I still have 4 left.

I also got a #8899 Racers Gator Swamp for 75% off which I have no real interest in, but it has an alligator figure so not all is lost. My son will get that set at some point.

I wouldn't say it's surprising that Market Street is least-liked. It has no interior details, the "market" is nearly as barren, and the colors and design are atrocious (all my opinion, I'm sure it has fans).

That said, you're right, it's nice to break away from floor-by-floor, but if you look, others mostly have. FB is only two wide-open floors, and has a drive-through architecture. Pet Shop is a nicely-vertical two-in one, with one of them having more of a loft than an actual top floor. Town Hall has the meeting "auditorium" which runs the entire vertical of the structure.

The UCS B- Wing. I tried to put a piece back on that fell off, and once I tried to put 1 on, like 2 would fall off, that kind of thing. And I tried to rebuild it again actually today but it went back in the box cause it happened AGAIN. Therefore I have the Imperial Shuttle UCS in its place. Plus, the build for $200 only took me a day and then about 2 months of display before falling apart. Plus, even for a Star Wars ship, especially a UCS its just kinda plain in most areas.

I like it because it looks like a MOC. The most recent modulars (Town Hall and Palace Cinema) look like they have gone through several different designers hands and in the process stripping away some of the personality of the set.

Hoth Echo Base 7879.

Some of the minifigs are nice, especially Bacta Tank Luke Skywalker, but overall the set is just lame.

I had the same problem with the cockpit. The design is so flimsy that the slightest bit of pressure causes it to fall apart. After an an hour of trying to improve the design by adding pieces, I threw my hands up and glued the cockpit together. It's the only time I've ever had to glue pieces together.

Being OCD like I am, I think the only sets I regret having purchased would be anything outside the themes that I really care about. ( pirate and castle and modular ). I have a few smaller sets that I wish I had saved 20 bucks on, but ultimately it is all water under the bridge and if one day I have a dedicated LEGO room I will just spread everything out and use the sets I didnt have quite the same attachment for as spare parts. Ultimately, I am not sad or disappointed with any purchase I have made.

Agreed truly awful isn't it?! But as you say good figs and big white base plates are never a bad thing (unless like me you paid 90gbp for the set they are in to get them).

@bellybutton290 - I have no problems with the B-Wing personally, a perfect representation of the ship. However many people have reported problems with stability and fragility and thus it is really a split decision.

Cafe Corner - new in box. I think i overpayed and its too expensive to open/build. I now wonder if i will ever get money back. hopr the price goes up like the UCS Millennium Falcon but not so sure...

6868 - Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout

The Hulk "mini"fig is fantastic, but the set as a whole is small, uninteresting, and inaccurate to the movie.
I paid $30 for it on clearance, but I still feel kind of cheated.

The Figures are just okay and the set is not the best but it is the most flimsy thing I have ever touched! It took me like 3 hrs to buuld it because it broke every 20 minutes and it seems to just fall apart on its shelf. At least it has some good parts.

i'd have to say that the lego volkswagon camper van is #1 on my list. I've wanted the set for over a year but when I got the set, it's just really lacking and I really could of used the money elsewhere.

First problem is that for a 120 buck set, I was really expecting it to be bagged in the groups a lot of the larger sets come in or at least like parts together. I don't have many free containers so it wasn't a fun thing to deal with.

plus the inside almost seems cluttered in a couple areas and there's a couple spots that were tricky to build.

Plus the roof doesn't really connect solid enough and overall I can't pinpoint it but it is someone lacking a wow factor that the set image was giving me.

At the moment, it's in a drawer along with the replacement part I had to get and the box, instuctions, and sticker sheet are on the side.

Plus I didn't exactly think though the "where in the world would I put it" factor since my current display space is occupied.

I'm not sure about the future of said set though

I don't display any sets, but they may stay together for a few weeks after I build them. I feel like I should build something of my own to display, but I'm not all that great at it (yet...) :/

I only regret sets that comes with boring parts, e.g. even the Hoth Echo Base had lots of great parts (white) so worth it for that and the minifigs I think.

The worst purchase I did was the #7208 City Fire Station: it's impossible to keep together and I'm surprised children are supposed to be playing with it. Also I don't like Lego red and try to avoid parts/sets with a majority in that color.

It happens rather often that I want the minifig(s) from as set but not the set. When bricklinking the too expensive - I'm in the dilemma. Waste money or buy boring sets?

That set has really bothered me.. The sub is so ugly, but the queen is amazing, and I like the reverse head on the other 2 figs. Jar Jar is hugely popular, you could sell him for $25 no problem.

It's almost too painful for me to recount but when I was just coming out of my dark ages I noticed someone posted what looked like a very large chest of lego on gumtree for $490. Thinking that it'd be a real goldmine and that I could bargain them down I went over there to inspect it. I had a shuffle through it and it was less than I thought (the bottom of the chest was raised off the ground) but still quite a lot of stuff. Saw a couple of architecture sets in there plus the indications of a few star wars sets so I thought I'd make a deal. I offered them $350 (basically this was a textbook case of how ambit claims work) and walked away with it.

Well, first thing that went wrong was that the (pretty nice) chest which I'd hoped to sell and which was included didn't fit in my car any which way I tried to jam it. So I had to empty out all the parts into a big box I had in my car. I got home and box included it weighed 15 kg which gave me a degree of hope that this wasn't a terrible idea after all. How wrong I would be.

First thing I sorted it out by colour and discarding all the junk and mega blocks. I noticed on the way that the junk and mega-blocks bags were filling up very fast, which was my second clue this was going to unravel. Third clue was that everything was incredibly dirty and had a really odd smell, like the smell of damp. I had to wash my hands about every 15 minutes or so. Worse, many, many parts had been melted or broken or had literally been ground on an abrasive surface. Fourth clue was that everything was in *incredibly* worn shape. Still buildable but everything had been scratched to hell to such a degree I couldn't in good conscience sell it without a disclaimer.

So anyway I push through and in a few (dozen) hours everything's been sorted. But it doesn't weigh 15 kg now, it's less than 9 by this stage. It's so dirty that I decide I need to wash it. So I go the hardware store and rig up a dishwasher tray made out of flyscreen and held together by soldering wire. Everything is washed in sequence in the dishwasher (takes about 10 loads) and laid out to dry on the ground. This takes about two days and nights and is incredibly tedious and tiring work. Finally everything is dry (although it still has a damp smell to this very day) and I bag it all up. Getting all the grime off actually makes the scratches appear *worse*.

I've used it a bit for parts and some components aren't as bad as others. I recovered some nice Series 10 minifigs and there are a couple of pretty much complete architecture sets in there that I hope will put on value and cover some of my losses, but it was a terrible decision that I'll almost certainly not break even on even after all the work. I'm torn on whether to just cut my losses and sell it to someone who'll use it as filler material in a massive MOC or continue to farm it for the odd part here and there and hope over its lifetime it proves more cost-effective than BL'ing parts.

The worst part is that soon after I got a larger bulk lot of lego in great used condition for $160 which I didn't need to de-contaminate and has proved faaaaaaar more useful as a parts farm.

Live and learn, I guess.

I'm not sure about my biggest regret, really, but for me I think #70505 comes pretty close to a real regret. A couple of nice minifigs and a good mech, but the temple itself - it just doesn't look right. And the whole set's price per piece ratio is shocking for a non-licensed set at 10.62p.

I knew I shouldn't have just thrown it into an order to get it to £200 while the March double points offer was on...

It's just the most open and threadbare temple I've ever seen... #2507 is a much better representation of a temple I think.

@tensor I had a red carpet, not any more however - we have mostly wooden floors now.

@Adzbadboy I was looking for Dr. Doom and JJ from the Daily Bugle set but those figures cost about as much as the set itself I think it was about 15 GBP each plus postage for them and the set is selling for about 30 GBP off amazon if I recall. Sometimes it's as cheap to buy the whole set and if you want the extra Lego too, always a bonus. otherwise better off giving the Lego and unwanted stuff away. Depends on the sets though.

For me personally, any set that I have bought to "bring me over" the threshold on [email protected] to get free shipping or the free poly. I look afterwards and kick myself for not just paying for shipping or getting the poly on BL or something similar. Also, any set that is outside of the core themes I am committed too; once in a while I just want to splurge and get something new, but I always end up regretting it!
