It's big enough so R2-D2 can face forwards too!

Hmm ... I can see quite a few stickers. Why can't premium sets have printed parts?

I think it looks pretty good, 1558 pieces is 250ish more then the original #7191 so not lacking on that front. I'm sure ill pick this one up.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
    ^ about 260 more or 20%.

Very few current fans where around 10+ years ago. This move is a good move by LEGO. This set will sell very, very well.
  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
Exciting. I will wait for a good sale, but will likely pick this one up. Iconic ship.
  • Doom4Doom4 Member Posts: 14
I will also pick up one. I missed the previous version because I was in younger age and I couldn't afford it but now I have finally enough money to buy famous X-Wing Starfighter.

The front nose looks a bit scruffy and short, could they not have tiled the top of the cone and the fuselage to smooth it out? Maybe it would look weird to SNOT the body but not the wings (to avoid them being 2 plates thick)?

Apart from that, it looks good, but so does the system one - it doesn't look massively better.

I will probably still get it when a decent price comes along, but once again the US get a massively better deal on RRP and will probably see it reduced earlier than the rest of us as there are more places selling this "exclusive" over there than in Europe.

@monkeyhanger the US deal isn't that much better when you take off VAT in the UK, US prices are quoted without sales tax as it varies state to state
  • Doom4Doom4 Member Posts: 14
How much money please did the previous version cost in time it was released?

A shame they wasted the release slot with a redo. Having said that the model is very very good and very sleek and certainly worth a look if you missed the first time. Would have prefered to have a different characters x-wing and associated astromech though as R2 is very common. Price is a little more than I had hoped but I suppose given the piece count it's roughly consistant with the b-wing. I don't think i'll be getting this personally but as I always do I will likely see it for real in store and change my mind.

Yes, finally! Might even pick one up on release date.

@Doom4 If memory serves me correctly the original was £100 at time of release and the Tie Interceptor was £80. At the time I thought that was unbelievable for Lego. Luckily got mine from my local Co-op, in the days when they sold toys for £50 during a sale.
Personally I'm gutted they have wasted a release slot as this year is my 40th birthday and I was going to get my family to buy me this years UCS set as my prezzy. (And then leave me alone to biuld it)
Having the original I'd have preferred a previously unreleased model but in saying that it does look good and is great for those who haven't got the original. Probably still get one at some point to keep my UCS collection complete though.
For those comparing it to the good looking system model, don't be fooled the UCS sets are substantially bigger and better.

Thanks but why the previous sealed UCS X-Wing is now much more expensive? I check for example bricklink and it costs over 800 bucks starting from the cheapest.

^ I agree there is no comparison between UCS and system but if like me you have the system version would you then buy the UCS in addition? I have to say I am now wondering about selling the system version and upgrading to this instead. At the end of the day i'm 34, swooshing and play value are not a consideration.
  • hantothantot Member Posts: 284
@bellybutton290 I'm 34 and swoosh mine all the time....

Nice, i guess this will be available for the "may the fourth" promo! Now they just gotta bring us a sweet OT-promo fig for this date :)

Definitely, they also look good when displayed together in different scales, I must have at least 6 star destroyers in different scales, from micro (out of the advent calenders) up to UCS.
  • bellybutton290bellybutton290 Member Posts: 453
@hantot if I'm being totally honest I swoosh too.

Ebay it, set a reserve, and then you'll have enough to buy 2 or 3 of the new one. Unless you have all the UCS sets or have some sentimental attachment, then definitely keep it.

As for me...woohoo!! I might finally be able to afford a UCS X-wing! Great news for collectors who haven't been around since the dawn of Lego SW!

Seeing lots of comments like these.

I wonder if it's fair to assume, that with such a longer contract with lucasfilms, and the fact that new movies are coming out, if we'll see a re-hash of the 10179?

Honestly, I don't know how they can make it any better, but in my opinion this new X-Wing isn't that much better than the system/first one.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see :-)
  • maniacmaniac Member Posts: 865
Quite pricey but expected of licensed models. Personally for me to get that, would have to be cheaper or a nice 4th of May promo.
  • richoricho Member Posts: 3,830
The old UCS one is going to take a big hit, no doubt about it.

Sounds like a plan @emmtwosix. Think I will take some pictures and post it tonight. It was my first UCS set but if I held onto everything that had sentimental value in my life, my house would become a storage unit.
  • bellybutton290bellybutton290 Member Posts: 453
^quite possibly, be interesting to see what happens there! Just praying that this re-hash is not the start of a trend and that Slave 1 etc will find their way into the line up at some stage soon.
  • briziobrizio Member Posts: 31
Are you really sure this new set will change the value of the previous 7191? From a collector's perspective, those two sets are clearly different and the value of the older will always be higher. Almost every "real" collector is interested even in small package differences so two different UCS sets will always remain what they are: two different sets recreating the same concept.

I think this presents a good solution for all collectors.

Being fairly similar means you don't necessarily have to buy the newer version, if you have the first, because it's not that much different as a model.

You can skip it if you have the original, get it if you didn't, and if you have all of them, it's still different enough in construction and part selection that it's arguably worth picking up (which, if you had all of them, might not have been an option anyway.)

Well, somehow it seems only a matter of time now until there is another "ultimate" Falcon.
With a bit of luck, it's going to be a playset... just like we have two Death Stars in the 10xxx range.

Sounds like it. This is definitely an indicator that any previously released UCS could have another similar version released. Although to be honest I don't see them ever releasing another 5000+ piece UCS set. If the SSD is $400 at around 3000 pieces, a 5000+ set would be likely priced at $600 or more.

Making it into more of a playset like @mressin mentioned makes more sense and will likely sell a lot more.
  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Member Posts: 4,027
Great to see pictures and proof once again that @legoboy and his information is solid ;-)

Quite a watershed in the history of the UCS line. There is already talk of various sets being re issued or re vamped. Time will tell but if this is a good seller from TLGs point of view then I think its inevitable. I don't see that as a bad thing so long as reasonable lengths of time are left between releases.

I really don't understand the thinking behind this as most AFOLS would have much preferred a UCS Slave 1. Sadly this makes both the UCS label and 7191 meaningless. Hopefully it was worth it...I guess the guys in sticker production needed the work. No doubt Tantive and Snowspeeder are next. I already own plenty of X-Wings so I think the Ewok Village will get my $200....I may buy the following UCS X-Wing rehash if they dirty it up a bit and get the nose right.
  • DiggydoesDiggydoes Member Posts: 1,079
Is it the same canopy than the last one? Can someone tell if it's printed (from the pics)?
  • mressinmressin Member Posts: 843
I believe I read somewhere that the canopy is stickered. Which I like.

The press release for the UCS X-Wing was given to websites with the understanding that they weren't supposed to be published until a certain time. Some websites jumped the gun. At this point, it's been widely disseminated, so I'm not going to remove the images and links here unless we're directed to by TLG.

And of course a huge round of applause for @mressin ;-)

@rocao Not sure if this matters, but the pics have been removed from Eurobricks, with this note:

*EDIT by STAFF* TLG has asked us to remove these pictures. Please do not post these pictures yet. Their official release will be soon.

The construction looks vastly different. Look at the way the wings are connected. Look at the shocks connected to the wings. Look at the engine intakes. It is going to be a very different building experience.

Whats the point in TLG requesting removal from sites now. bit late isn't it? Damage already done.

How can you have 2 UCS models of the same ship? Lego have seriously shot themselves in the foot with this one. Its going to put a serious dent in the existing model but also the potential of any other set.
  • bellybutton290bellybutton290 Member Posts: 453
@cavegod anything could happen in 2hrs! Especially with a set that's been in development for over a year lol.

@Sie, I like the model, and since I don't have the first one that had got very expensive, I guess that's good for me, but I think at a broad level I do agree with you, that with so many options, doing another X-wing, not to mention all the other standard xwings we have, is a mistake.
If I was a reseller with one stashed away for resale, I would be looking to get rid of it quickly, as that premium price is going to nose dive.
I have said this before and got shouted down, but I think it's pretty likely we will get another UCS Falcon during this ten year contract extension. Lego is a business, and they know that this time it would sell incredibly well.

This is indeed confusing on part of TLG. They introduce 2 major x- wings in matter of 8 months . I must confess disappointment , if we were to receive another x wing that too a re-hash UCS it simply had to be another beast altogether and that would be a 2200 brick range version and atleast 26 inches long and anything that resembles those ststostics i would happily dish $ 250. What we have been offered isn't anything mind blowing , it's minimum you would expect from a UCs.

In the past 10 months I have purchased about 10 of the UCS models ,most well over retail, and yet I find these 200 dragons hard to spill . I know I will eventually pick it up , but it will have to be on sale .
In case of the b- wing , the reasoning that the larger plates included may have been the reason for its 200 mark . But in the present case of the x- wing I just can't find that argument to have a leg to stand on . $ 150 would be reasonable and 175 should be the upper limit. It's always good to see a new UCS , just not over the moon with this offering, and that's a statement In itself.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
I'm certainly disappointed by this, but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for a proper UCS ship in October. As for OT rehashes, I don't know that we'll see a ton more. They still have several OT ships that need the UCS treatment to begin with, plus they've barely scraped the surface of the PT, never mind the new films. I mentioned this in another thread, but there's a whole generation of people who think that the PT is Star Wars, and I won't be surprised to see TLG cater to that population as they come into their own (and have money to burn).
  • emilewskiemilewski Member Posts: 482
I am happy about the re-release. I had the current system version in my want list, but will happily get the UCS version instead. I only want one, so might as well go for the ultimate. 13 years is long enough to redo such an iconic ship and it will be much better detailed. I agree the $200 seems too high so will definitely wait for a good sale. As for a UCS Falcon redo, I don't know. It would do well for the same reasons that the X-Wing redo will do well, but I don't see how they could outdo the first one at a price point that would make it worth doing.
