My guess would be.. Dodgy. As he is selling EXACTLY the same things as another fraudulent chinese seller was 2 weeks ago.

Also, i think this belongs in the ebay discussions page.

How could you doubt they're legitimate? They're so kind they've even offered free shipping from China.

Once the seller gets their first positive feedback, they'll be on their way to building a solid gold reputation.

Although it's a little odd they've listed 4 items all to be sold within a very short time window.

It says in the listing that the buyer will have to pay postage from China.

But what I don't understand is, with a feedback score of 0, you can't access your funds for 28 days... How do people pull scams like this without eBay catching them and reversing the transaction? Are these people so stupid as to try and rip people off, even though it probably isn't going to work, or are eBay just so crap at policing their site that this kind of thing goes unpunished?

It just seems like a massive waste of time, whichever way you spin it.

I didn't have to wait 28 days on my first listing?? How does paypal know you don't have any feedback? (i know they are owned by ebay but they are seperate companies that don't communicate information)
  • mrtonytjmrtonytj Guest Posts: 214
And also, most of these scams go back to fake name bank accounts.. Using fake id. You sell your items. You get paid through paypal. You withdraw your paypal money to your dodgy bank account. You withdraw the cash. You close the dodgy bank account. All this can be accomplished in 3 days or less.

New sellers on eBay with 0 feedback cannot access funds on PayPal for at least 1-2 weeks. Unless they have changed something that I don't know about you have to wait, so the question was a valid one.
  • legoprodslegoprods Member Posts: 445
You are able to withdraw your funds earlier if the buyer provides positive feedback. If not, it will be held for a few weeks.
  • NoizetankNoizetank Member Posts: 48
All of the recent listings from people selling from china with zero feedback are scams I was watching about 4 listings all different sellers from china selling ucs mfs fit a quarter of the usual price and ebay canned every listing due to fraud

My point was that there is no way you could have your money in under 3 days and have your account closed if it is a scam auction. Maybe there is some way to scam eBay itself but I doubt it.
  • mrtonytjmrtonytj Guest Posts: 214
Not your paypal or ebay account.. I meant the bank account you are using to withdraw the stolen funds to.

I don't think it's a good idea to talk about "how" the scam is completed. Its just enough to know that it is a scam. We certainly don't need to teach any more opportunists how its done. - After all, this is a public forum!

I just won a Battle of Helms deep from this seller, but I'm not sure if it's legit. Any thoughts? http://myworld.ebay.com/hustla-quel/&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2754

What are your concerns? It looks fine to me? I don't understand ? Unless I am missing something?

Has any body noticed the amount of fraudulent eBay listings. I know there was a thread about this recently but I have noticed more and more zero feedback sellers from china selling the more expensive sets that sell for a fraction of their value. Is anyone worried about the impact this could have on the secondary market? Especially as eBay won't do anything until the listing ends. I can't seem to post the link to the current listings but I have enjoyed winning 2 UCS MF for £200 each lol only reason I bid was to stop people being conned.

I doubt it will have any effect on the secondary market.

Also, I don't think you should be bidding on them. You might think you are protecting others. But others see people bidding and think it is legit. If you think something is fraudulent, report it.

I'm pretty sure I just got scammed out of $250. Bought a Lego set from a new seller, something I don't normally do but there was a 14 day return policy so I figured it was safe enough. Well, I received shipping notice today but after checking the tracking number it was supposedly delivered 3 days ago. I received no such package. The package was also sent first class which is impossible due to size and weight of purchased set.

So now I am screwed. Tracking information shows it was delivered, yet I have nothing to show for it. I can't file a claim for another week. Looking at the claim process though it seems that for items less than $250 as long as the seller can show delivery confirmation has been marked as delivered than there is nothing Paypal can do. Anything $250 or above requires proof of signature. Unfortunately for me my total came to $249.99. I'll still file a claim but I don't think I am going to win this one. It's humbling and frustrating to be conned so bad.

    Hard lesson to learn.

Did you pay using a Credit Card (through Paypal)? If so, open a dispute with them as well. Then Paypal gets to play with the big boys, rather than with you.

@Renny I have been scammed almost exactly same way before and I got my money back. Ebay has been pretty good for taking care of mess. Please do file a claim and explain what happened just as you did here. I would be surprised if you lose your money.

The biggest scam was that I bought 15 DS from Hongkong seller with 300 feedbacks. I believe it was $150 each or something. Yes, I was one of idiots who took a chance. Actually he sent some junk bags first via Fedex. Then later he sent small package. His feedback plunged around that time. After filing a claim, I got all my money back. That was over $2000.
  • NoizetankNoizetank Member Posts: 48
If there is tracking info it should show where and when it was delivered so if it doesn't show your address you should be ok to claim. I had this happen to me before Christmas and PayPal eventually sorted it out.
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
I believe the majority of the payment was from my Paypal balance. It's nice to hear that you got your money back @kim43235. I will file a claim when I can through Ebay and hope for the best. Thanks.

It only shows that it was delivered in my zip code and not my address. It's unfortunate others such as yourself have encountered cons like this but it is comforting to hear that you received your money back.

^If what you say is accurate ("The package was also sent first class which is impossible due to size and weight of purchased set."), then I would fully expect to get your money back from ebay or paypal. That would pretty much prove it was a scam.

@Renny did the seller have multiple listings? If they did, and it is a scam, they most likely scammed everyone, at which point eBay will get a heap of complaints and so it will be obvious to them and they will refund.

Even if you can't do a formal dispute yet I would contact eBay now and explain that you believe you were scammed as they can start investigating and if multiple buyers do that then they may suspend the sellers accont sooner.
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
The seller only had this item and a listing for a power tool which also sold. Thanks for the advice, I will notify ebay right away.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
^ Not sure in the US, but in the UK even if the user interface of the tracking only shows some vague details, within the delivery company's system there is often a whole lot more detail. I had a parcel not delivered by Amazon or someone similar a few months ago and through them I was told the house number the parcel was delivered too, that house's relationship to mine, the name of the person that took it and even a rough guide to what they looked like! Online for me it just said it had been delivered, admittedly it was purposefully delivered to a neighbour because I wasn't in, but their system held all that information without it showing up on my screen.

Wow - I' pretty sure that I just fell for the drop-ship scam. I bought the City Garage 4207 from a seller on Artfire.com (named shophom) for $90 ($80 + $10 shipping) and it is currently en route by FedEx with an origination of Olive Branch, MS.

Boy do I feel stupid. I didn't even connect the ArtFire seller name "shophom" to shop@home and didn't start to worry until it hadn't shipped for several days. I became even more concerned about the purchase after seeing that the seller site was gone last Thursday. I asked for a refund and the seller responded that the item was shipping and provided a FedEx tracking number. It still seemed suspect for obvious reasons so I just googled "Lego Olive Branch, MS" this morning and found a number of reports about "drop-shipping scams".

Not sure what to do now. I made the purchase through PayPal so not sure if I can get my money back from the seller. And I don't want to be black-listed by Lego. Anyone have any suggestions?

I must buy this, the problem? I think it's been drop shipped, the guy I mentioned earlier on last year has been banned for scamming people...

How can you sell the death star for $61, I dont understand...
  • SherlockbonesSherlockbones Member Posts: 411
Neither do I, which makes me think either it's a scam or somebody is a bit stupid.

Does anyone dare me to buy it?
  • TinKnockerHimesTinKnockerHimes Member Posts: 76
someone just did, while i was browsing the sellers feedback, it showed the death star as being sold 2mins ago
  • SherlockbonesSherlockbones Member Posts: 411
people have brought it before, if you look back over a few weeks.

    Do you think I should?
  • TinKnockerHimesTinKnockerHimes Member Posts: 76
I went all the way back thru his feedback, and no one that purchased a death star had left feed back, and on the very last page was where he had negative feedback for non communication and not shipping items...

Your call, though it would be a sweet deal at $61
  • SherlockbonesSherlockbones Member Posts: 411
    hmm.

It's hard as he has tons of good reviews as well
  • TinKnockerHimesTinKnockerHimes Member Posts: 76
I plan on getting it someday, but I think i will just wait and buy on the lego shop next time they offer double points

I just think paying £250+ for a LEGO set it's a bit OTT, regardless of what it is, it's a good set just not worth that much
  • samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,505
@Sherlockbones- I don't know that website, nor the seller, but a 10188 sealed for $61 is faker than Jar-Jar Bink's sense of humor.

£250+ OTT for a lego set? Tell that to my son......

I tried to tell him that when I was his age, I was lucky to get a £15 one and would have to save up for a REALLY big set (ie £50)

    That's inflation for you ;-)

Not sure anyone really cares but I just got a decision back from ebay and unfortunately they sided with the seller even though he never responded. They completely ignored the points I brought up and just focused on the fact that his phony tracking number showed that something was delivered in my zip code. You are awesome ebay....*golf clap*

Thanks, sorry if I came off sounding so peeved. I'm more upset with myself that I allowed myself to be duped in the first place. Hopefully others can learn a bit from my mistake, I know I have.

^^Really sorry to hear @Renny. I hope it doesn't end this way and can still work out. But thanks for warning everybody with this cautionary tale.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
That seems absolutely nuts, especially given the lack of any communication by the seller and the fact that you could prove that whatever you ordered couldn't possibly have been shipped first class. This just seems like a situation where the seller was clearly scamming you, yet somehow they blew it. This just seems like another case of them not really policing anything and using a 'one-size-fits-all' type policy to handle everything.

Out of curiosity, what kind of feedback score are we talking about on this seller? It seems if other buyers had an issue with this user, eBay SHOULD have been more apt to side with you.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
That is awful @Renny. Is there any way to keep on at ebay or is that it - case closed?
  • SherlockbonesSherlockbones Member Posts: 411
@Renny Sorry to hear that, my aunt and uncle will scammed a few years ago out of alot of money, it must be terrible....

Can't you go to the Police?
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
He was a new seller with no feedback. Here is the listing:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/150985074121?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I know it's "too good to be true" but I saw that there was a return policy and that a legit looking image was used and thought I was covered if I didn't receive the set or it arrived damaged, etc. I had no idea and was not aware that someone could manipulate the delivery confirmation system the way he did.

Ebay has considered the case closed however there seems to be an appeal option so I have contacted the USPS and inquired about whether they know specifically who the "package" was sent to. Once I hear back I will appeal either way. As for the police I would prefer not to escalate it that far (you never know if the guy is looney and would want retribution).
  • SherlockbonesSherlockbones Member Posts: 411
If Ebay still refuse to go in your favour, we're not talking $10, we're talking $250, the Polive would be the next step up, I understand and respect you if you don't go to them, they might make things then things already are
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
Just an fyi, this seller's real name is andrew kincaid and he is from CA. Not sure how helpful that is but he could create another account so if you see that name pop up just be aware.
