The Lone Ranger Train isn't all that bad. Resembles the Emerald Night. And for $99, you get a full loop or track too!

Has anyone noticed the badge for the NY toy fair? Looks like part of a golden minifig!

@Joseph- I was looking at that too... It looks like it is just a close-up of the "trophy" for the superstar minifigure on the flip side of the badge. Nothing special.. unless LEGO is releasing a minifigure (or just LEGO trophy sized) sized golden trophy in 5,000 CMF bags... which would seem pretty dull.

On here: http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/main/toy-fair-2013-lego-highlights it says that you can't take any pics of the iron man 3 sets or the man of steel sets :-(

    This person obviously couldn't read.

I have to say overall the pricing for '13 is not too bad.

Depends on where you look at it from. The price difference between US and Europe on some Lone Ranger sets for example will be ridiculous. (Stagecoach 30 USD vs. 50 EUR, wtf?)

In an way, the most impressive offering for me is the Lone Ranger. Creative, colouful, good value (again only if you're a US customer) and it tickles that nostalgic bone enough to make it readily familiar without having to know in advance the plot of the movie on which it's based. And I think that's why this particular line is so surprising and make me curious to know more.

The good sheriff and his sidekick? check. The stagecoach fleeing with a screaming lady, money flying everywhere? Check. The speeding train that's going to derail because of dynamite? Check. I know these cliches from every TV show, movie, cartoon then and now, and I am not at all a fan of Westerns.

Where Pirates of the Caribbean failed and Lord of the Rings to some extent and definitely Star Wars, is that I saw the movie first, and then LEGO had the enviable task of living up to my big-screen memory, my childhood, by rendering into a 1000 pieces, more or less.

The Lone Ranger is not saddled by that baggage as the LEGO came first; the disappointment will come later when the movie is released. For now, it's just generic enough that I can come up with plots and characters that don't have to be named Tonto. Maybe I should also avoid seeing the movie.

So it begs the question had LEGO gone back into its vault and relaunched a Western theme without it being hitched to Disney for insurance, could it, would it have been as 'new' and 'fresh' and 'exciting' as it is now? I think yes.

The downside is the repetition of the two main characters in just about every set with little / no variety.

^ That's only a downside for collectors (and a small one, considering they'd probably be easy enough to sell on). I'm guessing the average buyer/child would be quite happy that the set they choose to buy has the 'heroes'. (As a side, I think they're is two versions of the ranger, one dusty one clean, and possibly a couple of different Tontos at a glance, though haven't checked that).

I agree. I have no interest watching the movie and when I heard LEGO got the license for Lone Ranger visions of PotC danced in my head. After seeing the new sets I am shocked. All the sets look playable, many have some type of trigger release mechanism, and the minifigs look great. I can't believe I am tempted to buy the Stagecoach.

Props to TLG on these sets.

It's also a drawback for those who buy sets for parts and sell the minifigures to offset the cost. Minifigures found in multiple sets generally don't sell for much.
