It's a meaningless statement anyway. Every day, eBay takes down large amounts of fraudulent actions from Western sellers, too.

All I was saying in reply to mrtonjtj 's five smells of fraud detection was that "Asian seller" is not, and should not be, a criterium. Anything else would be discrimination based on ethnicity, aka racism. If you're not doing that, then why do you feel accused?

I am seeing a bunch of shill bidders trying to inflate prices on Uruk-Hai Army. That set isn't even EOL and stores are still getting that and Helms Deep in stock and people are trying to inflate it. I hate people.

Not sure if this belongs here, but what's with these auctions? Ebay Link . My wife has expressed an interest in Friends and in particular, the mini dolls (I think she likes them because she knows I hate them. But it's a double negative because I actually love that she's getting into Lego, but that's another story) And so I'd love to pick up some extra dolls for her. Are these fake? There seems to be a bunch of Ebay auctions for ten random dolls. All coming from China. I just can't see there being a big enough demand for the dolls to make fakes, but I can't see these auctions being real...

^ I'm not sure. There are loads like this, and they never come with the real hair. They seem to be genuine body parts from Friends, but with regular lego headgear on. Note the seller here also says some might be glued - which in ebay-speak probably means many of them are.

^The lack of proper hair, and indication of gluing, might suggest that they are ex-keychains? I'm not aware of friends keychains but there may be some 'in the works' of which these could be ex-factory samples.

But this is all guess work.

We saw these months ago - which makes me think they're probably not key chains I'm guessing that they're from a factory that makes the doll figures but not the hair.

My fiances mum and dad start most of their auctions at 99p and they shill bid a lot with her uncle. I always tell them if you don't want to sell it for 99p don't start it there, and even tho her uncle got banned for a month for it previously I think some just see gaming the system as part of trading on Ebay . I personally don't bid on anything until the auction is in the last minute or so just because it seems so prevelant. I doubt Ebay cares that much unless its reported as it just increases their fee share.

calculated that after fees I made about 10 quid on a helms deep i managed to pick up for 49 quid - would have been 4 quid more profit if i estimated the postage more accurately and didn't package it in a shipping box! Hardly worth the walk to the postoffice :)

It seems most auctions on eBay in January are ridiculous. Well, maybe not ridiculous, but the final values are much higher than what I was seeing in November and December.

Anyone else notice this? Or have I just (unknowingly) altered how I determine the value of mixed lots?

It is, but I reckon if you waited until EOL, you would have got more for it.

Or if you waited until the similar Hobbit sets or future LOTR sets are on sale, you could have traded for one of those if you were not able to get a good deal local to you. Or any other theme that comes out, Helm's Deep will always be popular because it is a castle MOC kit. It is of course also a decent build in its own right, too.

Sometimes you are better off holding a set for a while before selling / trading it, unless of course you need the cash right away.

The description of "brand new, unused unopened and undamaged" makes me smile as the seller then admits to opening and building for the photo!
When you read a bit further you notice that the Hulk and Hawkeye figures are missing to !!
