EXPIRED: [USA] TRU BOGO 50% Harry Potter, Star Wars, Creator, Technic, and Duplo (July 17-23)

Yes, Star Wars. Perhaps TRU knows they won't sell much with that TRU-tax without a sale.

Plus a free snowman or Xmas tree polybag with purchase over $30. It's all part of their Xmas in July thingy going on.

    Yeah, Got a few things:
    fire brigade x2
    emerald night x2
    hillside house x2

The cool thing is free shipping of purchases of $75 dollars, not $100...
so some of the cheaper Lego sets can now be had online without having to pay for shipping.. So I got the hillside houses for a bit cheaper with free shipping too...
A useful thing to know is that the Grand Emporium is NOT on sale though!!!

2 more death stars would be tempting but I just could not do it...
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
    I went with:
    Diagon Alley x2
    Pod Racers x2

That's bizarre that GE is not on sale. It's listed as "Creator." On a related note, I saw a GE and Diagon Alley at a TRU B&M store today. First time I've seen either of those there. Must have been returns from on-line order. Box of the boxes looked really beat up.

Hemming and hawing over 2 death stars... :o)
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Decided to go back and grab a couple Fire Brigades as well. :) Good pickings out there still.

I'd love a republic frigate, doh
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
    Or a Falcon.

I'll probably head to TRU tomorrow and get a Lighthouse (or two). Been wanting that. Still can't get myself to pay for the hillside house - even with the 25% off.

I have 2 Beach Houses, 2 Porch Houses, 2 Apple Tree Houses, 2 Log Cabins, 2 Lighthouses, and 1 Family Home. While I've publicly flogged the Hillside House, my history seems to indicate I'm going to still buy it. :o)
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^ Ditto. Although which is the "porch house"?
  • kylejohnson11kylejohnson11 Member Posts: 508
Just went online and the sale is not showing as active for me. It is showing the Death Star, GE, and Fire Brigade as in stock though.

@Yellowcastle I figured it out, the Grand Emporium isn't qualifying. Some of the guys at ToysNBricks were talking about it :/

@Yellowcastle Thanks! I'm not feeling too daring tonight, maybe tomorrow ;)

Here's hoping they fix the bug before stock runs out! :o)

Yeah... Reckless abandon got the best of me and I went back and got two Death Stars... temptation was too great. and it appears they still have Death Stars in stock as well....
Did not get the Diagon Alley's though... I have enough of those right now

See above, I said this last night....
And after the purchases I have made I am not sure I want it to go on sale either...lol
I originally was going to get 1 FB and 1 GE but the GE was not on sale so I opted for two Fire Brigades....
As of this morning their bug is still not fixed (If that is what it is)

That's really interesting the GE is not on sale. Unfortunately I just bought 2 Fire Brigades at S&H. Oh well. I should start hitting myself for buying sets not on sale.

Don't beat yourself too much... TRU.com has been really weird lately.. I do not recall seeing this many BOGO sales for Lego in this small time frame in a long time. I mean it has been like 5 BOGO related sales in 6 weeks if I am not mistaken, and I do not think this has occurred before.. not to this scale anyway...

Although I will say the weird thing is it appears TRU had a decent stock of items online last night (and the Death Stars are still in stock, as of about 10 minutes ago anyway...)

We are headed off to our local store to pickup 2 of the Apple Houses along with the discounted Fun Favor Pack for the kiddo's upcoming birthday party. I think Lego sales have been exceptionally slow this summer hence the major discounts. Previously those Death Stars would have sold out within 1 hour yet they are still happily sitting in stock. I know my ebay sales within the USA have dried up totally - luckily the overseas market is still going strong on the back of the devalued US dollar.

Local TRU had many of the new SW sets, picked up a couple of the 7959 Geonosian Fighters. It was definitely worth it to get them there instead of online to save on the shipping.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Diagon Alley back in stock. And it's Mastercard Monday at TRU! Another $25 off a $125 purchase if you use a Mastercard. And yes, it stacks. I just grabbed two Diagon Alley's for $107 each after tax. (Sorry Yellowcastle. I hope your card isn't Mastercard.)
  • MCNwakeboardMCNwakeboard Member Posts: 320
@sidersdd Thanks for the heads-up on Mastercard Monday- I had never heard of that before. Also picked up 2 Diagon Alley sets.

The mc deal has sold me and yet nothing is currently left in stock. Ha. Doh.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^Motorized Excavator, Flatbed Truck, Mobile Crane. Technic not your thing? How about the redesigned Shuttle?

I tried buying some BOBO 50% last week on TRU.com, and it will only let me get one at the deal, i.e. if I buy 4 things, only 1 is BOGO 50%, not 2. Anyone else have that problem?
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Yep. You can do multiple orders. But if you're under the free shipping threshold and want the multiple BOGOs to get over that amount, then your best bet is to call a customer rep. Sometimes they'll do this for you on the phone - as a "courtesy" (aka reluctant favor).

Two Shuttle Expeditions with the BOGO 1/2 and the $25 MC discount made it around 130, with tax. That's 35% off of each at list (or 75% off of one!). The closer you can get to the $125 threshold, the better, of course. So at least $83 to make the BOGO qualify. This might take some of the sting out of the notorious SW mark-ups also. This is also a good time to consider the UCS Obi-Wan Jedi Starfighter, if you have been waffling on it. That extra $25 makes things a little shinier...
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
@sidersdd - Nope for the technic or Duplo. And I stupidly bought the shuttle back when it was first released. So I'll be watching the following stock levels today

    Death Star
    Imperial Shuttle
    Diagon Alley
    Republic Frigate
    Falcon
    Emerald Night
    Echo Base
    Maul Ship
    Emporium (if fixed)

Currently, I'm open for pairing any of the above or something with the hillside house or Big Hogwarts.

    A couple Hillside Houses + Series 5 (x7) pre-orders?
  • YellowcastleYellowcastle Administrator, Moderator Posts: 5,234
^ I guess if I get stuck with no other option. Of course, I'll lose any remaining Cred I have here if I buy two hillside houses after trashing them so much. :o)
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,787
^-- well if you did buy them at least you are getting them BOGO and not at Retail :-)
  • MCNwakeboardMCNwakeboard Member Posts: 320
The Mastercard Monday promo is a great way to pre-order the series 5 and save about 20%.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,787
^^--- Does the Mastercard deal work with preorders?
If so I may have to go recheck my cards and make sure I do not have a mastercard around... (I think my cap one became a Visa though :-( )

I just put in an order for 42 series 5 and the total (with tax) was 105.61 . The discount doesn't show until after you put in your MC and click next. You can even add the promo Christmas tree or snowman.

I'll have to see if I get the order confirmation since it is a pre-order

The terms on the MC promotion say it doesn't apply to items that are not in-stock, so technically they might have a reason to cancel pre-orders, but if the system is allowing it that's at least half the battle
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
Has anyone tried calling to see if they would:
    1) Honor the Grand Emporium for BOGO 50%?
    2) Stack the free polybag with the BOGO 50%?
  • RobbRobb Member Posts: 144
^ I called about both issues Sunday morning and the customer service reps did not agree to help. I didn't push it though. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had any luck.

Then again, I tried the Christmas polybag today with some Duplo BOGO and it worked.

Also, has anyone gotten customer reps to agree to allowing a double BOGO on the same order?

^ I was able to get the TRU customer service to give a blanket 25% discount as they can't apply the BOGO deal on multiple items. This was back in May when the Kingdom sets came out, but I also bought two of each set.
  • RobbRobb Member Posts: 144
Just tried calling and was denied a multiple BOGO deal for the same online order by the customer service rep who claims that the policy is only one discount per online order. This is silly since it works in-store.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Ebates has 2% cash back on TRU purchases. That's new isn't it? I don't recall any of the rewards programs working with TRU before. I could have saved even more knowing that. Just got an email from them. Sign up here.
  • sonsofscevasonsofsceva Member Posts: 542
Toys R Us has been on Ebates for a long time. BUT, they moved from 1% to 2% cash back just this month.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
Hmmm... for some reason I was thinking it was Canada only until now.
  • sonsofscevasonsofsceva Member Posts: 542
@rocao: My wife (who is the dealmaker in the family, and has that innocent, disarming type of voice) went onto the TRU phone line and received:

    1) BOGO 50% off Grand Emporiums
    2) Stacked the $25 MC on it
    3) Stacked the extra tree or snowman to each order we placed this week

When she called, they said that the Grand Emporium was not on sale, but she then, in a very courteous fashion, directed the person to the Fire Brigade and the ad. The person then agreed that it should be in the sale as a Creator item and gave it to her, with the Christmas Tree and the MC discount. My wife then asked for the additional polybags for our other orders, and the person ordered our other trees and snowmen for us. Whoever we had, she was kind, courteous, patient and helpful (my wife even asked her to look up inventory on Diagon Alley, which was out on their end too, but she did that for us also).
So, you may want to give both a go!
  • MCNwakeboardMCNwakeboard Member Posts: 320
The extra $25 makes me want to call them up too. I guess it depends on how much the representative wants to help out.

@Robb sorry the call didn't work on for your on multiple items.

This has been this way for a LONG time at TRU online.. It is up to the discretion of the stores as to allow it I believe, because they know all you will do is break up your order at a counter and cause delays if they did not allow it....

@MCNwakeboard: Thanks for the idea on pre-ordering the Series 5 CMFs. I ordered 38 of them along with a few impulse sets to bring the total to $125 and then used the Mastercard deal. It looks like it worked fine despite the pre-order. I also got the Christmas tree. There weren't any BOGO50% items that I really needed, unfortunately. Hopefully I will get a complete set of the series 5 and then the discount will allow me to sell the extras at lower price. The CMFs were basically $2.40 each with free shipping.
  • RobbRobb Member Posts: 144
@sonsofsceva - Thanks for the tip. I tried calling again and was more persistent (but still polite) and followed the logic that your wife used. This time the rep agreed to honor the GE in the BOGO deal.

So... now what do I do with an extra GE...?
