It is a pirate from the 4+ or 4juniors series, back in 2004 - see him on Bricklink here.
Since you have him holding a sword and jug, I would guess that he is from set #7080.
In IT in about 1995 we programmed using a Lego thing that plugged into a computer, and we programmed them to work. I recall a wheelchair, robot arm, conveyer belt. I recall they had little sensors that then turned motors.
It was the only thing I excelled in during IT, the wheelchair had a joystick and was really clever.
Couldn't find the set on the site, mainly as I didn't know it's name or year or anything
Also sorted out these various Minifigs, are they worth much? Gonna take a while for me to sort all this out!
Take a look at these pages, and see if you recognize some of your figures: http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?itemType=M&catString=61
Mind storm looks like the modern equivalent though
Is there a way to attach / embed photos into this, rather than using links?
Thanks in advance

I need some help identifying some figs and horses..
I don't know if this is the right place to put this or even if you can ask this but if it's not please let me know.
I will post the pics in a minute.

Dog, 2 ants, monkey, 3 crouching cat, 2 rats, a dark green crocodile and a clone brand parrot.
I had to Google Jack Stone, some weirdness must have went on in my dark ages! I thought it was a mega-clone.
@ravnut mostly memory, with the odd bit of bricklink searching for the more obscure ones (eg Knights Kingdom & Jack Stone, where I recognise the theme, but not necessarily the figure).
The reason for the rubber tip is for safety and stability reasons. Thin, pointy parts can not only be uncomfortable to step on, but can easily snap at the tip if molded in regular ABS.
EDIT: Didn't realize that this had already been answered, sorry!
