Just got back from a harrowing trip over rural roads through blowing snow to check out the after-Christmas sales at K-mart and Walmart. The total was about $350. Contents of my haul were:
Ninjago Skull Truck 2506 x1 ($27!!) at Kmart; Creator Small Cottage 31009 x4 (Kmart); Dino T-Rex Hunter 5886 x2 (Walmart); Dino Defense HQ 5887 x1 (Walmart); City Space Center 3368 x1 (Walmart; and a Black Pearl at Walmart for only $50!

I've no idea about the resale value of the Dinos, Space Center, or the new Cottage, but, hey, worth a shot!

Went to a local independent Toy shop today and found #5985 Space Police Central for MSRP. I've had meant to get his set when it came out, but alas, it EOL'd just in time for me to miss it. I felt like a kid in a candy store when I found it!

Thank you TRU... I stumbled upon a lonely Hogwarts Express in a great condition box today! Must have been a return or, more likely, dug up in the back warehouse!
  • mrseatlemrseatle Member Posts: 410
NHogwarts Express...Excellent! My TRU recently has only dug out a few small Atlantis sets and 3 Prince of Persia Ostrich Race sets at full price. They have Buy one get one 50% on books, so i picked up "The Lego Book" and "The Lego Idea Book" today...

About 6 months ago I found a #4512 cargo train on CL in the area I grew up in so I had a friend pick it up for me. Was $125. Never got any pictures or anything but my friend said it had a bunch of track with it and some extra train cars. I got it from them over christmas and just took a look through what was there and it appears that it may be missing a few pieces but is mostly complete along with a mostly complete #4561 which I already have and actually bought recently but now I can extend it with a motor on the back end. It came with 58 straight 9v tracks 78 curved, 5 switch tracks and 2 cross tracks and the 2 regulators. Also appears to be most of a #6586 because I see the front of the snow mobile the figure and the polar bear. All in all I'm pretty happy.

Not the greatest find but found Hagrid's hut and magic bus at Barnes and Noble for retail price. There are also 8 forbidden forest which I didn't grab any. Also there is a city of Atlantis set and some AC theme sets.

My mom found some small City sets at Kroger for 50% off and grabbed a #4434 Dump Truck, #4436 Patrol Car, and a #7741 Police Helicopter for $20 total to give to my son. Not too shabby.

Lego 2521 @ £25 (US$39) in my 2 local T K Maxx branches, bought all 17. Resale should cover my intended SW purchases for the year. Don't worry, no little Timmys were emotionally scarred during the purchase of these sets.
  • bricknationbricknation Member Posts: 717
I guess it wasnt in Manchester. I cleared them all at £37 @monkeyhanger
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Bricknation: Nope, Kingston Park (Newcastle) for 7 and Byker (Newcastle) for 10. There are a few other local branches potentially to try, but I think i've spent enough (£425), all in the presence of the wife too!

I found these sets in a local toy store. Quite a nice find, not so much the price, most were around RRP, but these are all out of production for a little while.

Last friday night while waiting in line to purchase the Horizon Express at the Chicago Water Tower Place LEGO store, my wife (who is not an AFOL by any stretch of the imagination) spotted two MMV's on the shelf on clearance for $79.99. Much to my shock and surprise she said it would be silly not to get one, so we did. Yes my wife is a keeper!

I dom't know if to get UCS IS or MMV, both are going EOL...
  • legoprodslegoprods Member Posts: 445
    ^IS IS IS IS IS

I guess that MMV doesn't appeal me too much :)

  • BastaBasta Member Posts: 1,259

I'd go IS for sure, even just for the fact that if they both double in price after EOL, IS will cost you $500 where as MMV will only be $200, and putting relative value aside, its just going to be easier to justify spending $200 vs. $500 later if you decided you really must get the other after EOL.

Obviously you need to take into consideration that IS now will still cost you more then double MMV will cost you right now.

@SherlockBones- IS in a heartbeat. I have both, but the IS is just truly breath taking when displayed, as opposed to the quainter and more plain MMV.

Just picked up a Black Pearl #4184 this weekend at the West Loop Target on clearance for $69.00. They still had 4 left in fairly good condition. They also had the full line of Dino on clearance including a couple of Defense HQ's at $69, but I passed on it.

I think this is a bargain....got it for £33.55 ($55ish) plus postage off eBay this morning...

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330852537020?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Comes with instructions, box and all Minifigs. A few parts missing, but they seem quite cheap on BL etc...a really nice, ornate castle from an era when Lego was in it's heyday (IMHO) and looks fun to build and a beautiful structure...

Can't wait for it to arrive!

Got #744 from a second hand Lego store. Not a great price, but not a rip off either. Box, instructions, and pieces in fair to excellent condition. The motor is present and still works. Minor fading on bricks, especially the yellow, is the only thing we can fault. The box even has the plastic trays in it!

I just bought a bulk lot from my works intranet which includes 60 loose minifigs from Star Wars batman super heroes and ninjago along with new in box hogwarts express, hagrids hut, gringots bank knight bus and 5 Star Wars sets can't remember what they are at the moment the list of stuff was crazy all for £120. Or as I will tell my mrs not much at all. She loves HP so hopefully she wil be ok with more lego taking up space. Just before Christmas I got a 10188 for £150 the seller said some parts where missing 10 in total but nothing that would be hard to replace. Box was a bit tatty but all the bags marked 6 & 7 were still sealed. I was very happy and really enjoyed building it.

Bought a lot from a kid off Craigslist for $150. 3 banker boxes with 34 pounds in them and a few manuels. Took em home to find out later there was a 4th box. Posted an ad on Craigslist and luckily the person who bought the 4th box replied and I was able to get theat box for an additional $30, so I have $180 into this box. So far, I have put together from these 4 boxes:
335 (1967 Transport truck Cab, only some of trailer were there)
600, 603 and 620 (1971 Ambulance, vintage car and fire truck))
    3180 (Tanker)
    4002 (Riptide Racer)
    3832 (Spongbob Emergenacy Room)
    4788 (Mutant Ray)
    6206 Tie Interceptor
    6207 A Wing
    6203 B Wing
    6209 Slave I
    6211 STAR DESTROYER!
    6243 Brickbeards Bounty (missing sails)
    7040 Dwarf Mine Defender
    7626 Indiana Jones Jungle Cutter
    7682 Indiana Jones Shanghai Chase
7739 Coast Guard Tower (boat hull missing)
    8018 AAT
    7474 Urban Avenger
    7475 Fire Hammer
    7737 Coast Guard Truck
    7972 Container Heist
and various parts to the Dwarf mine set (missing some of the rock wall pieces)

    also had 50+ minifigs!

Still putting stuff together but just letting you know, those garage and attic finds are out there, keep hunting!

I was at Wal-mart earlier in the week and it looked like an atomic bomb went off in the Lego aisle. Still, I scooped a Vampyre Castle for $70 and a Ghost Train for $54, which completed the line for me. I originally wasn't going to buy these two sets, but at that price, I am psyched.

just before Xmas, Target must have made a donation to Goodwill as there were 8 or both the Scorpion Pyramid (7327) and the Portal Atlantis (8078) sets there for $24.99 each. Grabbed 1 of each and went back but all were gone in less than 30 minutes.

I just came back from picking up this collection off of Craigslist. I was not prepared for how big the collection was. There was alot more items not shown in the pictures. I got very lucky that the person I bought it off of kept all of the intructions and paper work that came with the sets. So far here is a list of the complete sets that I have found.... #7140 ..still has box... #6597 ..you canonly see the yellow helicopter in the pic but the whole set is there... #6348 ..#6598 ... #1845 ... #1786 ... #6079 ... #6090 ... #6056 ... #6278 ... #6066 ... Blown away with all of the old castle sets... #4011 ... #6897 .. All of those sets were seperated into seperat shoe boxes. There are several boxes of assorted sets that he said he cant confirm that all the pieces are there. As an added bonus there are 23 road plates some still wrapped in plastic and almost 20 more blue water and assorted size plates aswell. Also there is a still in its box Technic #8480 . I am not 100% sure its all there. I am looking forward to building all of the sets . Not bad for $75...I will post pics soon
