One observation, ghost train from MF does not seem doing well. I've seen multiple WM have it on clearance for 30% off but they are still not moving well. Thoughts?

Well, my main thought is that The Ghost Train was the weakest of the entire line. I loved the Monster Fighters, and despite nitpicks with certain parts of the sets, I bought them all. Except The Ghost Train. I just find it really aesthetically unappealing. Making a steam train was a good idea. Making it entirely black? Not so good IMO.

So I'd say it's not moving because its ugly and overpriced. :P
I agree. I actually thought the MF theme was rather weak with exception to the castle and haunted house. Those two sets will do well in the after market.

I don't know. But Ghost Trains for $54 seem pretty good to me. Sold out at [email protected] until late this month.

Found about 60 of #8083 and #8084 at my Walmart today. They were clearanced out last year, but I think this store just put them on a truck to store them for no good reason. Same as the first wave Ninjago Spinners I found, I think (which they raised from $3.50 to $5). Scanner told me to see associate, who told me they were $11.97.

I swore I was done WM diving but there was one last WM in New orleans I hadn't checked yet...I had the day off so decided to try my luck....It was the first time i saw all of the Chima setts out on the shelf....They look good. I did find a couple more Battle packs for $6 each, The Ghost Train for $54...they had about 8 more of those left but I only wanted one...Forrest police station for $54....The star wars malevolence for $80...they had 6 but I didnt pull the trigger on it..and the Vampire Castle for $69....I did pick that up.....also some of the smaller Dino sets....so I guess it was a good day. I did stop by a Barnes and Noble on my way home...i have never been in one looking for Lego ...I was suprised at the amount they had. Saw lots of older sets like Atlantis,Sphinx, and the Castle Mill raid...all were full price but it was good to see...they did have some Star Wars Advent calanders for 50% off but they were all really beat up....So i'm officially done with WM...lol....till the next time the wife sends me there
  • red237red237 Member Posts: 334
Not to beat a dead horse, but upon closer examination many of the sets are from 2005, Fire stuff mostly, and even older Star Wars sets. I am confused. They must have found some storage in the back! They had at least 6 boxes of SW stuff each, before I got there.

I found a stash of Weathertops today for $40. Passed on them. Should I go back?
  • FatMattFatMatt Member Posts: 502
^$40 is not a bad price for them. I picked up a few at that price. There is always the chance they could drop lower though. Of all the post-Christmas deals, the only non-50% sets I bought were Weathertop and Batcave.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 837
I have a bunch of Weathertops too at a local WM for $40 but I've passed so far...not enough of a discount for me to bite...I have no idea thou if I'm missing something. The store still had about 3-4 Batcaves for $49, 5-6 Mines of Moria for $54, 6-8 Ghost Trains for $54 Forest Police Station for $54.
Anyone have an extra Vampire Castle they wanna trade?

I passed on Weathertop at $40, since it's been in the low 40s on amazon before. I have not been out all week to look for stuff, but I'm happy to see others are still having luck.
  • BanditBandit Member Posts: 889
30% off is for suckers. ;)
  • chrisdojochrisdojo Member Posts: 169
Weathertop isn't worth it unless it's 50%+ off, especially with rumors of a frodo/ringwraith set to come in 2013.
  • FatMattFatMatt Member Posts: 502
Guess I'm a sucker. Good thing I didn't wait for a bigger discount to buy my Zombies sets.
  • TheMurmurTheMurmur Member Posts: 90
Found 4 Black Pearls for 49.97 each, boxes were all a little damaged, but I only wanted one to build anyway, I'm happy.

Yes if you can predict and time store visits for 50% off. For those with active AFOLs in the area, it's 30% or bust.

I swear, my Walmart looks like they had an earthquake 2 years ago and no one bothered to clean up after. Like a crazy mob has been in trashing the place and they are leaving the evidence! I will list them when I get a chance to empty the car.

    Agreed.

I have noticed that these particular Walmarts are the older smaller stores. Just down right nasty....
I was in one the other day and the Lego isle looked like the thrift store. Open boxes, stuff everywhere... They even had a space patrol ship that had a really beat up box. Scanned it for fun.. Full retail price lol.

    ^In reply to prevere:
Yes, if I were to wait for the prices to drop any lower on those sets, it would not have happened. I only picked up a few of each at that price, and within a few days the rest of them were all gone. 30% off Lego does not last long in my area. So, it was either buy those, or hold out to see if I can find them for less than $40 online, which may or may not occur. At $40, I'm sure I will be able to sell those for $80 within a year after EOL, unless they get blown out like Podracers did.

And even if you do, it becomes a race to beat out the other AFOLs who also more than likely know this information.. and that is if Store employees do not buy for themselves or hold for others to do so.

I have noticed in my area that it has become much more competative in hitting the 50% off sales. The last KMart one, I missed the first day and got completely shut out. I still love the thrill of the chase, though!

I was pretty much done with WM so I hit Meijer near my work during lunch break and found some 25,50 and 75% stuffs.

    8486 Cars Mack's Team Truck $20
    4203 Excavator Transport $20
6865 Captain americas Avenging Cycle $9.74
    9446 Destiny bounty $40
    4527 Ultrabuild The Joker $7.50
9445 Ninjago Fangpyre Truck Ambush $25

    and some heroica lego games.

Overall I was thrilled to see them at clearance. I'm going to check again for super heroes hulk set as it wasn't discounted much.
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
More and more I'm finding piles of Lego sets by the price scanner. A clear indication there are a lot of people reading these forums and using that information.

Whet to a popular Wally the other day, and the shelves were nearly empty, save the giant stacks of Chima. Scanned the only Helm's Deep they had. $57. Jaw dropped.
  • wehrlibirdwehrlibird Member Posts: 12
I found a few 7208 Fire Stations today for 39.50. Good price? I picked a few up.

    Also found a 7915 Imperial V Wing Starfighter for 9.50 and a 7959 Geonosian Starfighter for $12.

Still hoping to find a Black Pearl in the mix but no luck so far. I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt :)

I took yet another trip to Walmart today to see if they had discounted any of the sets that were crammed on the shelves. ... of course, that answer turned out to be a big, fat N-O.

I than went and talked to the Toy manager, and asked if they would be discounting any of the huge stock of LEGO sets they had (all ones I've seen discounted above at other WMs) and he quickly replied that "Everything that we were going to discount, has already been discounted". So to close it out.. no discounts at my WM this year..

I went back to the Walmart I hit first on the 26th and they had 2 forest police stations left. One had a messed up box and the other was opened. They've been $54 since the 26th. I ran out of patience and stock and bought the beat up one. Of course I extracted an additional 10% for the box because that's how I roll. Now I have a bear. Yay.

I saw some actual ninjago sets at another wm today. One was 50% and the other was a big one and it was 79.99. 9445 was the discounted one. This was in oldsmar fl.

I need to pick up a Weathertop for my brother but I haven't found any anywhere but the Lego store for full price. If anyone can pick one up for me for $40 and send it my way, I'd appreciate it. I'll of course reimburse you for shipping and packaging if you don't have any. That'd be much better than the $75 it would cost me including tax. PM me if you can help.

Stopped by a different Wal-Mart today. Found 3 empty CMF boxes in different locations throughout the toy section. Series 8, Series 7, and one other non-colored hanging display. Someone cleaned up there before me. Good for them... $1/fig is awesome, even if they are fitness instructors.

Got my brother to go Walmart hunting as my proxy since I live overseas, he got a Helms Deep for me but the Vampire Castles were regular price.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 837
I stopped at 2 WM today since they're close by and the toy dept. manager said they're resetting shelves next week (it's usually Feb. 1rst) and he didn't think any of the toys would get reduced again.
At the 1rst WM I found 2 Ninjago boxes #9447 that were returned, one was 50% off, the other was full price (24.97) and the manager wouldn't reduce the 2nd box to $12. She's always been as least helpful as anyone could possibly be.
The 2nd WM had a Mines of Moria in a smashed box for $54. I also found a clock and soccer balls for my neice/nephew, but while I was checking out, the cashier dropped the sack and broke the clock. So I had to take it up to Customer Service and when I was up there there were 4 boxes of Ninjago that some had returned...all rang up 50% off.

Great find on Hobbit and weather top, thanks!

I was also surprised to find the recycling truck for $14.50 and camper for $9.50 this morning at walmart!!! One of each so maybe they were returns and in perfect condition. Scanned everything else at full price.

Wal-Mart is listing it in a weird way. You only get one set.
  • darktremeredarktremere Member Posts: 42
I found a bunch the most recent Ninjago spinners yesterday at a Walmart I don't get to very often, they were all marked down to $4.50 each, didn't find anything else there though.
  • PicopiratePicopirate Member Posts: 325
The only thing marked down at my local WM was the Ghost Train ($55). They had vampire castle and other sets from that series as well as a few older sets but none were marked down.

I saw a DS at WM for the first time today...it rang up at $399.99...too bad.

I presume you are speaking of the bundle offers..
You 'Add' into a bundle, add it into your cart, then go back and add another, or 'x' out the first set you put in and add another..
You can add as many bundles as you like into the cart.
They do it by bundles, so you will basically get as many of those Hobbit Riddle sets as the items you are getting.

^ have u tried ordering? They only let u select one set and that's it. The riddle set is not included unless u buy it separate for 9.97. @neomonkey is correct it is a false "bundle"

Yep. Ordered and canceled right away. Crafty setup. Seems to be trying to take advantage of people... Granted there is still a slight discount on the sets.

Looks like this year there are a lot more reseller hunting for bargain at Walmart, most store are clearout even before they have time to go to 50% off. I think this reselling of lego may run into a wall, because too many people are getting into it now. Too much supply eventually, and not enough buyer, just like the TY beanies in the 90s.

Eh, if people actually bought that stuff at full retail, they won't be making much, if anything, and will likely move on. That's assuming those sets were actually purchased for reselling and not for gifts like I believe.

That would be awesome!! That would mean more sets for my family to build and actually being able to get some of the big sets at a bigger discount!! Hope it happens soon!!

Went to my local Wally tonight and came home with:

#9492 - $30 (bought two, only one left)
    #4203 - $25 (had only one)
#4439 - $30 (had a bunch left, got only one)
    #7288 - $21 (had only one)
    #4208 - $10 (had a bunch left, got two)

And the grand finale... sitting on the bottom shelf all by it's lonesome.

    #7964 - $49.50 (had only one)

I was pleased to say the least.

Same around here, check of craigslist and alot of the sets that were on sale are for sale on craigslist at close to retail.

my store still has plenty of recycling trucks, geonosian fighters and a couple of landspeeders/ewoks left...

^ Agreed, Sets are being purchased by people who are just looking to make $, not to support hobby or enjoy. The local free online classified in my area is filled with these listings.

It has been since just before Christmas, also they think old used sets are worth gold! Too funny because the used set listings all start with 100% complete with only a few missing pieces.

I think more and more people are trying to sell house hold items online to make a few extra bucks. They go online and find Brickset and figure their old junky stuff is worth millions.

Yes I truly believe the bubble has peaked, and will soon burst for reselling for the vast majority of sets. As others stated I could care less, just means more Lego for less $$$$.
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
Can't believe there are still some gold to find at WM. I've been pushing off on the #4645 Harbor set for the longest time. I didn't even bite at $65 half a month ago and then they just disappeared except for TRU. I went looking around today and finally stumbled upon one unmarked and tagged at $90 but scanned for $45.
