Being this is my first year doing this, does more than 30% off really happen after Xmas out here in Hellinois?

I don't know if things are similar in Illinois to NC, but, out here, Target will go to 50% off on Lego, but they always start at 30% and it takes about 2 weeks before they'll drop to 50%...by that time, anything worth buying is generally long gone. You may be able to pick up a set here or there, but it's generally not worth making special trips to hunt for clearance Lego.

^That is typically how it goes in Illinois at the Targets I go to. Are you in the Charlotte area?
  • Pacific493Pacific493 Member Posts: 379
    No, Raleigh.

Epic Dragon Battle was 30% off (YMMV, of course).

After taking full advantage of fifty off LEGO at Walmart I laughed at the thirty off at Target. It's like these chains have reversed roles the past two Decembers.

^Seems Target blew their 50% the weeks prior with Bank & Money Transfer, etc.

The thing that amazes me the most about their "clearance" is the advent calendars. At least 20 left at my local Target. Still only 30% off.
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
Target doesn't have anything left for a 50% clearance. The only sets I see left on the shelves are the sets they plan on to carry into summer 2013.
  • jagdjhjagdjh Member Posts: 95
I found a Star Wars advent calendar at Walmart yesterday. It scanned full price ($49.97) so I took it to the register. The cashier checked with a manager but they wouldn't mark it down any.

I was at Target tonight.... My Target actually takes the guess work out by placing the big ol' red "Clearance" sticker on it. Most of the city stuff was gone but they had a ton of Star Wars and Monster Fighter. The only ok thing they had was the Fire Rescue #7942 for $7...They had the Clone Trooper Battle packs on Clearance for $12....not much in savings at all...spoiled by them being $6 at Wallyworld. I was surprised to see a freshly opened box of series 5 CMF's....not on sale and were $3 a pack

Was surprised to find #79002 Attack of the Wargs on clearance for $35 at a target today. That had been on the shelves what, three weeks?

I have a limited budget, and my money was all tied up in clearing out all the collectible minifigs from WM. ;)

I'll have to go check if my Target has the Wargs one for $35, that's a nice deal.
  • bmwlegobmwlego Member Posts: 820
When Atlantis first came out a Target by me had it marked down on 30% off clearance. I was shocked but the price was correct. I still don't know why a brand new line was marked down 30% off across the board in less than a month after it was introduced but I wasn't complaining.

Hmm. I grabbed a bunch of Black Pearl's at Target.com for MSRP right before they went OOS in November. Anyone see Black Pearl's on clearance at target B&Ms? I want to try a return/rebuy.

What would happen if I just returned a bunch of Black Pearl's anyway? Would they go back on the shelves or would they be shipped back to some central depot if the sets are no longer in the system?
  • chrisdojochrisdojo Member Posts: 169
    @flyingpig
If you talking target: before returning you would want them to scan the UPC to see if they still have them in their store inventory. If so, they will be put back on the shelf - and you have to wait for an employee to do this, then rebuy. They will not let you return/rebuy at customer service. If the set is NOT in their store inventory, it will be thrown into the salvage bin and won't be available for purchase.

I just stopped by Target tonight, and they had a Black Pearl on the shelf for $70. Needless to say I grabbed it. Nothing else of note was there.

Cool, thanks! I know I've gotten CS reps to return/rebuy before at Target and Walmart before, guess I'll try my luck if I can find somewhere with them still on sale.

I'm becoming even more of a fan of scanning even if it's not listed as clearance. Just found Hobbit Unexpected Gathering for $48.98 at my local Target. Only Hobbit ser that was discounted. Pretty happy since I paid MSRP for every LotR set they day they were released.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
went in to a nearby Target on a Lark today and walked out with two Vampyre Castles - $66.50 each after red card discount.

Even better found a lonely Vampyre Castle marked at $29.98 at my Target in NY, scooped it up, appeared to be a return as there was no shelf tag for it, it was just on a top shelf.

That's similar to my find if Unexpected Gathering. No shelf tag. Just one lone set sitting behind Attack of the Wargs. Not as great a savings as yours, but almost like they just randomly priced it because it didn't have a spot on the shelf.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
My Targets don't have any Hobbit sets out except for some reason both of them have 1 copy each of Goblin King on the shelf.
  • YodaliciousYodalicious Member Posts: 1,366
^Thats basically what mine recently changed to. The one I found UG at has Goblin King and Attack of the Wargs marked, but the others now just have Goblin King. Just before Christmas, they had spots for all the sets.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ I don't thing my Targets have had Hobbit sets at all yet that I can remember. I know all the WMs have had them for a while now.
  • BlueMoonUSABlueMoonUSA Member Posts: 116
Forest Police Station for $39.98 at my local Target this evening. They had about a dozen or so. A good enough price for me to bite on one.

Our Target has been void of LEGO clearance for weeks but just yesterday did a reset and to my surprise they were pulling sets out of some backstock storage boxes priced at 50% off. Hero Factory Vehicles (scary looking, but cool parts) Vampyre Castles (yay!) and some Creator sets. Also a couple NEW fire sets? They must not have been in their planogram and discoed them. Might be worth a second look as I was shocked and almost didn't even go check today. Also was lucky at WM with some backroom clean up stuff. Today was unexpectedly expensive but worth the time!

The reset was done at my Target too yesterday...they, too, had some vampyre castles, jabba's palace, hero factories, and old Ninjagos...but of course, all at full price. In fact, other than mummy sets, all sets are back to full price. And that concludes the post Xmas target discounts in my area. I envy those of you who don't live in suburbia!

I don't like all this variation in Target clearance. Who do they think they are, Walmart?!!?

This was the first year of me buying Legos like I did. It was my observation that the Targets by me got cleared out way before the WM's...I'm still finding clearance items for sale at WM's...The targets in my area are mostly restocked and everything is back at full price...other then a fire truck for $7...The WM's in my area are starting to restock and like other I have been finding some random sets. Today was the fist time I ever saw the star wars malevolence or Vampire castle marked down....I'm in New Orleans by the way.

While strolling through the LEGO aisle looking for clearance items, a little 4 or 5 year old came running in and quickly grabbed a SW Desert Skiff and as his mother came walking in behind him held the box above his head and started shouting, "I got the last one, I got the last one!"

I often forget I'm not the only one out there hunting for LEGO deals :-)

A similar thing happened yesterday but in Tesco. A boy of around 9 grabbed the last Vampyre castle of the shelf, and started jumping for joy of getting the 'last one' only for me to reach up onto my toes to the excess shelf and pull down a box of them. The look on his face! I then winked and said I got the last box of them :-)

If anyone in the Raleigh-Durham area is looking for a Black Pearl #4184, I just returned 8 of them to the Target by the Southpoint Mall in Durham. I had bought them at RRP and they were putting them back on the shelf at $70.

I would love me some black pearls for 70 but I don't live in the area :(. May I ask why you returned them? just curious...

I found a bunch at WM for 50% over the weekend and didn't want to keep money tied up in the ones that I bought at RRP. I may regret this later, but these were sets that I had not been planning on putting money into so I'd like to flip them as quickly as possible and that's going to be a lot easier to do with a $50 cost basis than it would be with a $100 cost basis.

You should have asked a forum before you returned them to target as there will be a lot of people who would buy them over 70 for sure including myself. Especially those who are in your area without paying shipping.

[Edit] Sorry I missed that you bought them at RRP. But still.. I think this will do really well even in a few months or so.

^^^^ Nice pickup on the Quinjets. I need one myself. Don't know how but I never picked one up. I guess I don't really like the set too much but I do like the Iron Man and Black Widow figs.

@Bandit Was it a new price drop? or first time you checked that store?

My experience with Target is that if the price is marked on the shelf that is the price. Only if a shelf tag is missing will you sometimes find a clearance price at the scanner. Anyone finding any different?

This exactly. If it has a shelf tag, that's the price. If it doesn't run, don't walk, to a scanner. I've found sets for 30% off less than a month after their release in the past. It's rare, but it happens. For whatever reason, if it's not in their current shelf plan, it seems to be discounted.
