I'm not really a Star Wars fan, but I was appalled by that Sail Barge. I'm not even sure how to explain - I do realize that forming an opinion based on horrible quality preliminary images is a bit ridiculous; I'm going to keep my opinion flexible until we see more at Toy Fair.

    But my initial impression... *shudders*

On the plus side, LOTR looks awesome - better than I thought it was going to be, and we get more LEGO Castle - with a Dragon! (My Fantasy Crownies are going to be so happy. Or maybe terrified, lol.) The line looks a bit juniorized, but I'll take it. Anything I can do to support LEGO Castle. I don't want my knights going the way of LEGO Pirates. (May they rest in peace.)

I was surprised Lego would start the LEGO Castle theme again. I thought it was over for good. Guess not.

Never! They may make Pirates walk the plank, but I'm keeping my knights!

And you will be able to get more in the summer.

City is lame. Another run of Coast Guard and Cargo? The sets look nearly identical. :( Also, the Grand Prix truck looks HORRIBLE. Just my opinion.

    Disappointing.

But the first wave of 2013 City is very nice.

I love them, just missing buildings, unfortunately. Hope there's another grand prix racer in the mix (probably the missing 60024).

One set not in the catalog coming this summer, though, is a new "city square" set that should be a TRU exclusive. Can't wait to see that one.

-Castle sets look hit/miss to me
    -3 creator houses, small/medium/large - cool!
-City has a TON of sets overall, some of them don't look too bad - but no buildings at all
-Sail Barge is awful. Instead of doing it right at the ~$120-130 range, looks like they are trying to hit a $80-$100 price point and it just looks terrible. the original is better by leaps and bounds
    -LOTR sets all look fantastic

I'm really disappointed by the Wizard battle; the name indicates lack of a structure, but still, I was really hoping for the tower of Orthanc to oppose my Helm's Deep!

People go to eurobricks, is better than this forum because they keep links to preliminary pictures .

^ No they do not. They have the same 'gentleman's agreement' with LEGO as we do and will remove them as soon as they are notified.

I hope they change the sail barge...it looks like it was designed way back 2000. LOTR is promising...I hope the council of Elrond has the complete fellowship, sans the other characters who didn't say much in the movie.
  • ArdalisArdalis Member Posts: 37
Be nice if the new monster truck had a set of huge wheels like the old power puller set.

that sail barge would not make it past cuusoo if that's the final product.

Council of elrond appeared to be mid size set with 4 figures and some minor structures. Assume elrond of course, but other 3 figures are anyone's guess.
  • OrthobotrexOrthobotrex Member Posts: 165
Oh, just 4 figs...well, they should rename it as the "counsel" of Elrond then...
  • CrownieCrownie Member Posts: 228
I think the collective 'we' were thinking Elrond, Arwen, Gimli and Frodo in the Council of Elrond set.

(Note to self: Preliminary. They're just preliminary.)

The Sail Barge looks like it was designed on a 'fit below the Gunship in pricing' budget. Too bad.

Hoth Bricks has the link. The images are really to small to get a good look at them, plus the watermark covers them. They're essentially re-releases from the looks of them, with newer minifigs.

    LOTR looks promising.

Thanks for the heads up Rick!
I'll buy the 3 City sets pictured that haven't been released yet. @Murphquake will be happy to add another ambulance to his collection.

Is that max rebo I see in the sail barge? oooohh. Once again the figs could save it being a total disaster though will obviously reserve final judgement come the summer when the proper pics and prices are made available.

Loving the racing sub theme with the F1 car and the monster truck some good city sets for 2013 in both waves also think the city starter set is a nice addition, bye bye disposable income.

Exactly what I was thinking. Or the "don't blow Jabba's Palace and the Rancor Pit out of the water by being too advanced in comparison" slot.

My views on the sets, I love the Lord of the Rings sets (although it is hard to make much out in the Wizard's Battle). The new Castle sets look remarkably unoriginal and just look to be a poor amalgamation of old designs, which is just lazy on the part of Lego in my opinion. I sense another single wave coming on followed by instant discontinuation. Why did they end Kingdoms which had such promise?

To me the Sail Barge looks inferior in comparison to the last one, although the Minifigures look rather nice. As for the Republic Gunship, I actually think that model looks excellent, why Lego has released one so soon after the last however is beyond me. The previous model was so good I can only think of one or two minor things which they need to change. Just as long as they make some good bubble turrets for it! The Minifigures there look brilliant, I am so happy to see some more Episode II sets, it has been far too long, but I am sorry to see only a single Original Trilogy set, and a poor incarnation of a great vehicle at that. So all in all, mixed feelings...

I'm happy to see Galaxy Squad is getting a second wave after the one-and-done trend of Dino, Alien Conquest, Pharaoh's Quest, and Monster Fighters.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
The sail barge looks completely crap compared to the previous incarnation, looks to be smaller with much fewer parts. A few highly anticipated figs though, but do we re ally want Luke at the expense of another character, considering his availability in the skiff which is a natural companion to the barge?

Brief thoughts on the preliminary pictures shown (stars are out of a maximum of ****).

    Sail Barge *1/2
Anemic-looking model that appears not just to be too small but also poorly designed.

    Republic Gunship **1/2
Too similar to previous one though the Padme figure is nice.

    Forest Ambush *
Not much to see here, folks. Move along.

    Gold Getaway *1/2
Clunky vehicle and dubious extra stuff yet sadly one of the "best" of what looks like an awful line.

    The Gatehouse Raid NO STARS
This is beyond terrible. The return of those stupid big-wheeled vehicles is just one of the things about this set which scream "juniorization" and "fugly".

    Dragon Mountain *1/2
Not much to look at really and yet still better than the majority of these sets.

    King's Castle *1/2
Blocky-looking castle could be acceptable if it were for asthetic as opposed to just cheap reasoning. Big-wheeled vehicle seals its fate.

    City Starter **1/2
Great introductory set for kids but beyond that not of much interest.

    Grand Prix Truck ***1/2
Excellent design that really screams for more such sets like a track and competition to complete the subtheme.

    Monster Truck Transporter **
While my neck isn't red enough to find any interest in this, it's modestly well-designed.

    The Wizard Battle ***
Really just a glorified impulse set, it's got two good figures (though Saruman is really the only one worth getting if Gandalf is no different than earlier versions).

    The Council of Elrond **1/2
Fanbois will no doubt cry about the size but it's adequate for the purpose of what it depicts.

The Battle of Black Gate **
The weakest in the LOTR summer line.

    Pirate Ship Ambush **1/2
Not bad but not great either. Maybe the final, high-resolution pics will improve the look of this one.

Phew... Glad I held off selling the set 6210 over Christmas. I was thinking that the new model will be a much improved version over the old. That's so no the case!

I'm happy to see Galaxy Squad is getting a second wave after the one-and-done trend of Dino, Alien Conquest, Pharaoh's Quest, and Monster Fighters.

This is where I differ. It actually really frustrates me. My kids would have far rather had a 2nd wave of most of those over Galaxy Quest. Alien Conquest, MF, even Dino... I also am personally uninspired by Galaxy Quest. My son adored the aliens from Alien Conquest. Space is cool, aliens are cool. Space insects... Not very interesting for at least this household.

At this point unless my son ends up with interest in Chima, I can point to just a few sets to interest my kiddos.
My 5 year old will like Ninjago and the new MBA, but both are line continuations. Dragon Mountain is one of the few things he will have interest in. China is the only area I see that could cause interest, but time will tell.

My girls, well, there is often next to nothing and this continues. Council of Elrond will be a no brainier for my 10 year old and Bag End.
Beyond that, there are Friend sets. I am not seeing much else new that they will have any interest in.

While it is nice that a non-licensed theme will not be one and done, I really think they picked the wrong theme to do this with. Even at our Lego store, Galaxy Quest has been sitting on the shelves, while other new lines are moving far better.
Although, who knows, maybe other kids will respond better to this line than mine have so far.

The Battle of Black Gate **

I would like to disagree, this set includes two mordor ors, Gandalf the WHITE, possibly Aragorn, and Mouth of Sauron. AND an Eagle. So far so good if any LoTR fan would say.

^^Oh, I totally agree - all of those other lines absolutely should have had more than one run (maybe not Pharaoh's). Dino could have had an entire second year of commonly known dinosaurs, Monster fighters could have gone in any number of directions, and AC...should have just released a bunch more sets.

For me, Galaxy Squad is like a new take on Futuron - mostly white + secondary color vehicles with color-coordinated good guys. That part I love, but honestly, the bugs do nothing for me either. I'd rather see something like Blacktron, where it was always implied they were the bad guys, but I don't think they ever did a "vs" set, so they were able to get away with having two "human" sides.
  • YpresYpres Member Posts: 200
I'm just as surprised (not in a good way) that Galaxy Squad is seeing more sets in the summer. Lego needs its oneshot themes, and retailers will always pressure them to put something new on the shelf. My opinion as an adult would be one that doesn't rank Dino or AlienConquest higher than average. I see those run of the mill themes and think "how long will it take before somewhere like Toys"R"us blows these things out for 50% off". Galaxy Squad is yet another boring space theme... aside from the new accessories, we still have the same old cliche boy-toys that aren't aimed at advanced builders. Pharaoh's Quest on the otherhand I loved, but it eventually didn't sell well enough and the retailers ditched it. The quality of Pharaoh's Quest was far higher than what we see in many oneshot themes... but I suppose those designs will be put elsewhere from now on. Sometimes I think back to that survey where Lego asked us what we value most when buying a Lego set and I, like many others, answered something along the lines of 'seeing new parts'. Galaxy Squad is a good indicator of what exactly Lego took from that responce.

Summer 2013 will have some good looking sets, but nothing worth crying over unless you're a Starwars fan. The Castle reboot seems totally random, and the sets are just as haphazard as ever. Good times.

I love the new Castle sets, for me the castle looks a bit old skool, Star Wars sets I never picked up any of the older sets, and I didn't get Jabba's palace so I will get the barge

The Sail Barge will indeed look like a Chibi version compared to the previous model. Not to hyped about the ship, but at least we get a new Slave Leia.

The Republic Gunship looks almost the same as 7676, except probably missing the speeder. But the biggie will be whether stickers will be included in the final model. It looks too bare without the graphics. But we do get a new Amidala.

Can anyone give us a lock down on the mini-figs ( apart from the usual suspects ) on Lotr ship ambush and black gate sets for everyones interest. Perhaps looking at the box left to right ?
I am most curious with the ship mini- figs ... Seems quite surely you have the king of the dead and maybe a couple other of his kind in the centre ! Who is right next to them number 7 from left ?
Who are the identical 8 and 9 next to him
Mini-fig number 3 on the black gate set .

Does anyone know if the new AT-TE will be able to attach to the dropship like the 2008 AT-TE, AT-OT, and 2010 clone Turbo Tank?
  • CapnRex101CapnRex101 Administrator Posts: 2,364
@legofan421 - I highly doubt it. I presume the new AT-TE will be an Episode II version like the upcoming Republic Gunship, and therefore it probably won't fit in with the Clone Wars sets like the Republic Dropship.

Watch, then Lego will make a new dropship that only fits the new Episode II AT-TE.

@legofan421 - I honestly wouldn't be surprised, I cannot imagine they have changed the Republic Gunship and AT-TE very much beyond cosmetic additions such as bubble turrets or changing the colour of the glass in the AT-TE so why not re-release the Republic Dropship minus the decorative stickers for the nose. What is worse is I would still buy it :P
  • legofan421legofan421 Banned Posts: 15
I don't own a Republic Gunship or AT-TE but I want them. That means the only way I will get them new for less than $200 and I will be forced to buy them. After 2013, most of the Star Wars Lego sets will become based on Episodes 4,5, and 6 because of the movies. So this will be our last chance to get a gunship in a long time.

Unless Luke is that second figure I can't make out (possibly a Weequay?), he doesn't appear to be in the set at all.

Yes, that re-release info was false. We'll get a new Castle theme with a bit of retro feel.
