Walmart here is empty so no clearance to look for. All the sets that are going are sold out and have been. The aisle is bare, bare. bare.

Would love to see something like last year's post Christmas Walmart sales but we'll just have to wait and see. Better still if they are reported here first before the shelf tag is marked like last year as well. ;) I'm not expecting much but does anyone have a guess WHICH sets would be discounted. I was thinking Star Wars, Dino, and Ninjago wave 2.

I just wanted to report as well that TJMaxx and Marshall's (at least in the New England area) don't seem to be stocking any LEGO this year apart from the Brickmaster books. Unfortunate because last year I was able to get some Atlantis, Prince of Persia, and Kingdom LEGO at deep discounts. I don't know what the deal is this year. I guess they didn't buy any bulk salvages from other stores. Was hoping to fill in the gaps on the Pharaoh's Quest line.

At a TJMaxx store that I went to, they had one Atlantis set (Gateway to Atlantis) and a few smaller sets (Cars). That being said, they had a large stock of the first wave of Kre-O Transformer sets.
  • intromissionintromission Member Posts: 197
So that's where all the salvaged Gateways from Target went. I figured I'd be seeing more of them. I did see Duplo Cars at one and plenty of Mega Block Transformers at multiple stores. Looks they'll have Megablocks this year for a quick sale. Too bad.

I think many people will be disappointed.
One main reason, contrary to what has been said before, all Walmarts do not do massive clearances to clear room for next years stocks.. I have seen a few Walmarts that have 'old' stock because they apparently refuse to clearance anything, or they 'clearance' it (put it into the clearance aisle) but the price is still retail.
Most Walmart's in my area are either cleared out, or they have tons of stuff but do not clearance it at all or another AFOL will beat you there if you pick the 'wrong' Walmart to check first.
I have found that most of the usual people that found these amazing sale prices last year will find these sales again at those stores (as it seems to always be the same people that keep finding these clearance/sale prices though out the year) and everyone else will be searching in vane for the sales in their areas.
I'm also guessing that like LEGO, Walmart is trying to take steps to NOT have to clear out stocks in their stores.
I guess if you can try to ask the employees if there will be a massive clearance on their LEGO stock this year, but Im also guessing that answer will be 50/50 as to if it is correct or not or if they will answer at all.

I have mentioned this in the past, but I think there are several things at work here.

The recession hit stores unprepared. They had SO much stock on hand that would not move. Stores hit rock bottom prices to move things. Since that time, many places have worked hard on inventory management, and just in time inventory. They do not want a ton of items left on hand. Because of this we see stores with a reduction in inventory. We see places that start small discounts early to move products before they have to give larger discounts. In addition, stores recognize that this is a better sales season than two years or three years ago, so they do not have to give as deep of discounts.

At my Target, 1/2 of all Lego are gone. What is left is minimal, and I do not expect huge clearances. We saw Walmart reduce Lego shelf space this summer. Because of this I don't expect the huge number of crazy discounts. I would not be surprised to see some sales, but not to the extent of last year. My Lego store is quite wiped. Much of the stock is gone, and I don't expect to see much highly clearances.

All of this combined together, and I just don't expect massive clearances. Of course, who knows. I am sure some people will get lucky, and I may be very wrong.

I was at my nearest Target today and the LEGO aisle was a ghost town. Everything had been pretty much condensed to a 12 foot section of shelves, when normally the aisle has about 32 feet of shelf space filled.

All Lego Aisles are a ghost town in every Walmart/Target. I have a feeling they will stay like that until the new year/new sets are going out.

I have close to 30 walmarts to choose from, so I'm still expecting to find some deals...

50% sale is on but it's about like the Lego.com sale. No MF, LOTR.
  • thehockeyboythehockeyboy Member Posts: 97
It was same as every year; essentially an EOL list

What time are the Walmarts opening? Thought it was 5 but my first one turns out to be 6 :(
  • ecmo47ecmo47 North CarolinaMember Posts: 2,101
Just scored 10% off total purchase with the store manager. Pays to ask!
  • Tevans333Tevans333 Member Posts: 152
Scored a helms deep for 50% off at WM2. Someone put a clearance sticker on 4 4209s for 7.48. They rang up full price at $60 but the cashier over road them!!! I also passed on a bunch of 6869s at 49.

Are these prices marked on the shelves? Or a corporate deal like last year?
  • momof2boys99momof2boys99 Member Posts: 322
My son and dad are at our Walmart right now. He purchased two Pod racers for $38.50 each. A Recycling Truck for $15. Ninjago Mech $25. He passed on Mines of Moria, more Mech's, plant sets, and a few things I forgot. I will have to ask him after he hits Target.

My son said that they were just in a clearance aisle. He did not find any unmarked sets in the regular aisle or the green house.

    Are these stores crowded?
  • Tevans333Tevans333 Member Posts: 152
Mine were all in the lego aisle unmarked. Stores were dead but that was a couple hours ago.

I hit one walmart on my way to work and nothing marked down. I will hit another walmart near my work. I hope to find recycling trucks at 50% off.

Things are not marked, but scanners show the discount. Target is 30% off including some Lott and hobbit
  • YodaliciousYodalicious DagobahMember Posts: 1,366
Scan items at WM. Not all are stickered. Just got the Ambulance and Caravan sets for $7.50 each. No stickers. I scanned every darn thing in the aisle.

I'm afraid this doesn't sound like it's worth my time at all, but good luck to those of you out braving the post-Christmas wasteland...err I mean sales. Post Christmas sales.

    :-)

It's a wintry mix around me so not too many crowds. Already hit up 3 walmarts and 3 targets, slight variations at each
  • andystarandystar Member Posts: 275
Only discounts at my local Walmart stores are the Dino sets. Scanned LOTR, Super Heroes, and MF...... none discounted.
  • HELLRAZR_28HELLRAZR_28 Member Posts: 61
Found 8097 at my local Walmart for $63. Not a joke. Looks to be never opened. Should I keep it for that price?
  • ColtCrazyColtCrazy Member Posts: 28
Only thing here was the 4x4 fire truck. Half off is nice for $10. They have two not sure if I want two though.
If the blizzard wasn't hitting here I'd drive north to go to another one.

At my Walmart LoTR was not discounted. I saw a few 9450 for full price and passed. Dinos were 50% off and the super hero bionicle sets were also 50% off. However, only the badly mangled boxes were left. I sensed that the really early shoppers have cleared the good ones from the store

    Not sure how/why it's there, but I managed to grab a #8547 for $140!

Took yodalicious' advice and started scanning random things. Raptor chase for $15 and weather top for $40.

Only lotr I saw was weather top at $40. Picked up 2 trex helicopters at 34.50, a batcave at 45, 2 recycling trucks at 14.50, and 2 mining trucks at 17. Also found a box of 10 mtt polys at 1.50 each.

Moria was not 50% were my son went. It was on sale....but not cheap enough.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks USAMember Posts: 1,367
They had more of the smaller dino sets. Thinking about going back.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
Strange how inconsistent is everyone's reports are from various Wal-Marts. I went to one, and found that Mines of Moria was 30% off (or something like that), Dino (a single set) was 50% off (which I bought, T-Rex Hunter), and Sith Nightspeeder was 50% off. I bought 1 of the 2 they had. They had other discounts, Beach House was discounted a bit, the mining truck was $10 off regular price. There was a tag for Jabba's Palace for $85, but none were there. Not much stock.

Target had pretty much nothing on sale.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,979
It has been pretty pointless. Stock is depleted, and things I would expect on sale are not.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks USAMember Posts: 1,367
    Target was terrible.

I just came back from my Walmart here in New Orleans . I found four Dino HQ's sitting on the shelf...I didnt scan them but when I got to the register they rung up at $49.00...glad I bought all four. The shelves were pretty stocked with stuff. I never looked at anything else..maybe I should go back.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
target was empty....on-line they have the Bank Robbery set for $25...but the previous sale cleared them out in the stores.
