How to modify the modulars for Christmas

I've been collecting the modulars for a little while. Nowi would like to think about modifying them to reflect the seasons, starting with Christmas. Has anyone else done this? Ideas for what could be done?

probably the easiest would be to dump lego snow on all the rooftops and for extra realism, put white bricks on balconies, eves, lampposts, anywhere it would fall in real life. Perhaps looking at the winter village series would give a good launch point.

Now I wish I would have bought a bunch of those gnomes for elves! :-/

I am guessing somebody has a better idea, but what Bumblepants said would be the first thing I would look at.

I have the winter village series, and I do what Bluefox1966 does and add item into the scene.

@Short_Round Thank very much. I'm going back to Cornwall this month and they want me to do a Christmas theme on my model. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/322815

The medieval market village also customises well for xmas - adds the the village nicely with some bonus snow. Mill village raid can become the stables if you feel like doing a nativity.

Huh. I really like both those ideas. I had been saving MMV for my girls as an expansion to DA, although, now I am wondering if I should save it for me for an addition to the winter theme.

I think with GE, there is a bunch that could be done inside to make the levels very thematic, such as a floor of toys, or holiday decorations. I have not built it, but what about changing the billboard to a holiday billboard?

One holiday billboard coming up. I found this last year.

That is very cool! I have been pondering the Grand Emporium, and this only feeds that consideration.

Change all of the bricks to black and leave only a bare bones skeleton of the building (no roof, no windows, no floors/ceilings and no furniture) and describe it as "Careless with the Christmas tree".

I just decided to jump on the modular bandwagon and picked up the fire brigade and grand emporium. In the process I got two holiday brick boxes. My plan is to look at how snow and holly is built in the winter village sets and then fill my boxes with the necessary bricks. If I can find some monster hunter sets on closeout then I might pick up some sets to get Halloween elements.

    What are holiday brick boxes?
  • PicopiratePicopirate Member Posts: 325
If you spend $75 or more at the Lego store then they give you a 3.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 inch box that you can take back to the store after Christmas and fill with bricks of your choice.

Just wondered if anyone made any Sleighs or Reindeer? If they are the same or similar I would love to see them.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
I have not. Our piece selection is nowhere near others. I did, however, make presents, and picked up an extra 'elf'. My elves are helping out with the kids waiting in line to see Santa.

    I bought http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=40034-1
to be used as one of those trains that give rides to kids. My plan was to pick up a 2nd and 3rd set to make it a bigger train, and then I saw someone do that on the front page. By black Friday the set was gone from the store. I have some supposedly on backorder.

    I built a different ice-skating pond.

I bought one of the clearanced Mine sets specifically for parts, and in particular the big 'mountain' pieces and the large flats. I've used those to make a small ski slope.

I bought some pine trees from the online PAB, but I have no idea when they will arrive. It left Strykow 11/28. I wish I had some better white pieces for the ski slope.

Our items are used for the winter village, though, and not the modulars.

@tamamahm do you have any pictures?

Okay, I figured out how to post. I put the link on the Winter Village thread in this same section, since it seems to fit there better. This is really my first attempt building anything , so while we are still pretty limited on part availability, overall I'm happy enough with it.

Found these lights at Home Depot. Thought it makes great lighting for the modular line for the holidays (elves there for the kids).

Nice! Is that an Elf On The Shelf I can see there?
  • 501Medic501Medic Member Posts: 11
In fact two, a boy "Elfie" and a girl "Sparkles" (bearing the skirt).

We introduced the lights on the modulars as a morning elf on the shelf surprise. ;)

I'm looking at getting some LED lights from brickstuff.com to put in my winter area and in the modulars. I need to get off my butt and do it.

This is cool.... I saw some similar lights at Target, but never thought of doing this. Without actually endorsing the lights (LOL - jk, do tell, do tell), can you provide more detail... show us a box or just a picture of the lights? Curious about bulb spacing, size etc... battery powered or plug in?

@501Medic - were those lights in the Xmas section? Could you post the brand, etc. for those lights? I'd like to pick some up.
