I love #60001 - it really looks as if the woman is ready to throw the fish at the cat in order to bowl it out of the tree.

Nah, I'd say it's a pretty good tree for the price point. I had some much worse trees in my childhood, in set 6552. OK, the textured "bark" is neat, but a prefab tree on top of a disproportionate brown column is a poor excuse for a taller conifer tree. In contrast, this simple tree is quite convincing as the type of tree one would see on a city sidewalk, even if it lacks the artistry of last year's trees in the Forest Fire subtheme. Great way to add a play scenario to a set at that price point.

^^ It's an awful tree, but the gold helmet piece makes up for it.

I'd like to know why the caramel(?)-colored cat gets printed but the white cat is apparently eyeless and completely albino (ie, not printed at all). After all, if I recall correctly, I think that they used to having printing on the white cats in some Belville sets so why are these poor things neglected?

    Regarding #60001,
That tree trunk has only recently been in sets higher than $40 and is an excellent MOC piece. The leaf patch piece is also rare today on small sets this size. The tree is good for parts, but the assembled tree does needs more volume at the top IMO.

Hobbit sets now available as well.

Its going to take me a while to get used to this '5 digit for every set' method they are using now. Im just really used to seeing those numbers either on polybags or special sets/mods.

I like the new tanker actually. I know there are many that do not, but I always like tanker trucks... Wish they'd make a service station for the tanker to go to though.
Also wish they would make the tanker carry something other than gas.

#70701 looks like a fun little spacecraft. I wished they did not include the space bugs in #70705 and put a lower price point on it. The vehicle(s) look(s) very retro (to me). The design is akin to 80s japanese sentai / mecha shows which I love. I am just not big on the space bug thing..

Yup.... 70701 looks really cool!!!! Unfortunately the local stores haven't received that one yet... I can't wait till I can pick one up :)

The printed cat in the Pet Shop is Medium Nougat (Bricklink's Medium Dark Flesh).

While I agree that it would be much better if the white cat here got a printed face, the printed Belville face on the white kitten was unspeakably horrendous, and I'm grateful that we're rid of it. Totally not consistent aesthetically with minifigures by any stretch of the imagination. Consistent with Belville, but considering Belville figures were living at the edge of the uncanny valley that's not saying much.

Thanks for the color clarification (I was too lazy to look it up). My point is not that the Belville cat was better or worse but that printing on a small cat piece is possible as the medium nougat variant proves and that Lego has printed on white pieces in the past meaning it's entirely possible to print a pattern, in this case similar to that of the nougat on, on the white cat piece.

Maybe I am being too picky but the license plate sticker on the rear Cement Mixer is not straight. It's not that I am OCD, and with my own sets I am sure I have placed the stickers worse. But as this is an advertising photo, I would have thought that they would spend a bit of time making sure that the models are perfect. I have seen photos on Lego instructions before where bricks are not completely snapped together as well.

I suppose they may be trying to give it the “handmade” look?

Anyone also notice that 31008 Thunder Wings is also misplaced in City?

@CurvedRoadPlate The 2013 sets probably could not come fast enough for the Tosa store; I heard the shelves were pretty bare after last weekend.

Went over to the LEGO store tonight with me son, they had most of the new sets on display, including the Hobbit sets.

They were already selling out of some of them, including the tree Hobbit set (don't recall the name of it).

Picked up a few more odds and ends, along with a few small sets for my son. :)

LEGO stores are getting the 2013 sets out on the shelves in Chicagoland. Saw the Helicopter smuggler set, or whatever it is. Comes with black garage door slats.
Also had the tanker, flatbed truck, hobbit sets, the new galaxy squad sets
If I was not Christmas shopping I probably would have picked them up...

Saw some of the Hobbit ones around NYC yesterday. I like that Fire Emergency one, that's a nice looking set.
