Why are there two rebels with lightsabers in the battle of Hoth?

^ My guess is the set came with an extra one and they just stuck it on the other pilot.

^^ I also noticed that, I think it's just a mistake unless there is more figures that isn't on the box

I have translated the source for these pictures which was hothbricks.com

Forward for the visual ones of the set of which one did not know big thing so far: 75014 Battle of Hoth.
It is the site exoforce.ru that already had posted on-line the description of the set that publishes these pictures.
To the menu, a Snowspeeder, a Speederbike, minifigs to the peels (5 aligned ones on wood but 6 in action and 7 on the visual one), blasters, a communication turret, a Tauntaun, a Probe Droid, brief, a great Battle Pack.
(Thank you to Anak in the commentaries)

So LEGO finally figured out how to charge $49.99 for a Snowspeeder...

This looks like a combination of Echo Base #7749 and Snowspeeder #7130. The speeder is terribly small and reminds me of the injustice that is the new Tumbler. I'll gladly let this one slide from the 'want list'.
  • DeckerDecker Member Posts: 65
@andhe my guess is that is General Rieekan

Wow what a disappointing kit. Is Lego EVER going to make a worthwhile Hoth set?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
By the way @kez, you're awesome with all the 1st peeks! Keep up the good work and looking forward to more!

The exclusive figure is cool, but the rest is just a bunch of meh. We have pretty much seen it all before. I STILL see Hoth battle packs at lots of stores, they never seemed to sell well. Not sure about the business decision to just fill this set with more minifigs that consumers already have had loads of chances of buying, and seemed to hit a saturation point.

    Thanks for the photos @kez!

I know the shield generator is a 'boring' structure... but how are we on our umpteenth Hoth set and not ONE has a shield generator? It makes no sense.
  • prof1515prof1515 Member Posts: 1,550
The only set that a shield generator would make sense with would be an AT-AT, probably with, ugh, flick-fire missiles. Otherwise, it has no play value and isn't really all that interesting looking either.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
I actually do agree that it should go with an AT-AT, though I suppose at that point you're only serving to inflate the price of an already expensive set to include a structure that, presumably, only I would care to build.

The mystery of the figs: The box art shows 2 snowtroopers, and it appears to have an "X2" where it shows them in the minifig breakdown. since they're identical. The rebel troops probably have different faces, so they get individual billing like Luke & the general. I don't think there's going to be a second pilot for the snowspeeder, but we'll have to see. Could just be a mistake in a preliminary image.
  • DiggydoesDiggydoes Member Posts: 1,079
Yeah THESE snowtroopers are totally different (highly collectable) to the ones from the Hoth BP, they have printed faces under their Masks! Wooohooo ;)

This set is kind of confusing to me.. as in why??? As much as I love SW I don't see anything new here except the general, and the probe droid is black in this set. A decent Hoth base (or even a shield generator model - would love that as well) would be ideal. Maybe it's due to the number of large (expensive) SW models that are currently available?
  • dr_tengdr_teng Member Posts: 101
Well this is a little disappointing. :/

Of all the memorable Star Wars scenes, the battle of Hoth probably has the most sets associated with it, which means if someone wants to create a LEGO display of a memorable scene, it is most convenient to do Hoth. I think this set is a decent army builder/filler provider for those types of recreations.
  • yys4uyys4u Member Posts: 1,093
I guess I stand alone here, but I actually like it. However I haven't bought any hoth set except for the Imperial trooper Battle Pack. I basically like how they took my favorite elements from each set and made them into 1 set.

This set is like the equivalent of the Uruk Hai Army set. Getting a few of these will help bolster an already established Battle of Hoth scene. It will allow folks to get a good number of speeders and embankments (in addition to the figures of course) at hopefully a $24.99 to $29.99 price tag.
  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
I love it and think it is great. A little overpriced for what it is so I will wait for a sale, but definitely a set to buy from my perspective. Can't wait to add it to the existing sets.

I wish they'd do an Uruk-hai style set with standard stormtroopers. Had I known they'd be so hard to come by, I would have bought dozens more of the battle packs back in the day.

@diggydoes don't forget you have to turn those heads with the faces around backwards to have them right =-D

    oh good, another snow speeder..................
  • beegeedeebeegeedee Member Posts: 380
I quite like this set. I don't have much in the way of Star Wars sets but I do have the Wampa cave with the Snow Speeder and wouldn't mind 1 more as long as it's a reasonable price.

What I would love to see is SW CMFs, I know not really possible but still...

I think that you're overly optimistic on the price. Six minifigures and a Tauntaun... I'm thinking even $40-50 might be low based on recent Star Wars prices. #8089 Wampa Cave had only three minifigs and a Wampa and was a $40 set. This looks like a bigger set than that. If it's a $40 set I'm in. I might even go for it at $50, but if it is more than that it will have to wait for a good sale.

yeah, thats a pretty weak set. Looks like someone just got lazy. Hey Lego How 'bout a new tusken raider set with bantha.

Or they could have the asteroid with the worm creature...large enough to swallow the MF and be retractable. Now that would make for quite a build.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
it's a minifigure pack with enough bricks thrown in to call it a "set"

From these pics, the snow speeder appears to be virtually identical to the one in the Wampa set. That's surprising to me. I wouldn't have thought that Lego re-uses such a comparatively large vehicle in a different set.

The only difference I could see was no orange on the new snowspeeder. This seems like an over-priced exclusive to me.

I guess I am. You bring up a good comparison with the Wampa set. I think it's a nice complimentary set and I would like to eventually pick up 2 or 3 of them but my max would be at $40. Sounds like from your points that it could be in the $50-$70 range. Looks like I'll be waiting for a sale on this one.

NOW they put General Rieekan in a set...plus a probe droid and another Taun-Taun and snowspeeder? I'll definitely buy this to add to my expansive Hoth Battle Scene already. One can never have enough Snowtroopers and Rebel Soldiers. I agree that it will be in the $40 range.

With this surprise release, are we going to see a set at the $120 price point? So far no news, or is lego leaving that area blank to focus on cheaper sets?
  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
I thought someone upstream said this set would be $50? Agree that $40 sounds right, and similar to the price point for the Uruk Hai addition to Helms Deep, but there's always a markup for Star Wars.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,637
@RainingBoroSi02 the big sets in the $100-120 range are almost always released in the second half of the year (Summer) to be ready for the time of year when people spend the most on toys (Christmas). We will probably start hearing rumors in a couple months

I missed the boat on most of the Hoth sets so I reckon I'll get this. Still, it'll probably be too expensive for army building which is a disappointment.
  • SherlockbonesSherlockbones Member Posts: 411
I most likely will buy the figures on their own of bricklink and the ship for that matter
  • DeadareusDeadareus Member Posts: 264
I'll probably pick it up to add to my Hoth collection but I would have liked to seen something new with this set. Perhaps the shield generator like mentioned above.

My guess is the set will be $50 which means it will be $60 or $65 CDN. ugh. I wish Lego would come around on the pricing difference between US/CDN pricing. The dollars have been at par now for a couple of years at least.
  • DeckerDecker Member Posts: 65
While I am not at all impressed with this set, I will still probably pick one up. As of now I only have 1 Snowspeeder so another one will be usefull. I would also like the Taun Taun and the Reikeen figure. This really could have been a very cool set with just a little more effort.
  • bellybutton290bellybutton290 Member Posts: 453
P-tower and probe droid are cool just about makes it worth buying for me can certainly appretiate the negativity surrounding this though as the rest of the set we have seen before (a fair few times) would have better to stick in a newly designed hoth at -st IMO.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
    edited November 2012
AT-ST would have been nice, as they are all retired at this point, but I believe the same is true of the snowspeeder. Not to mention, with it being the 30th anniversary of RotJ next year, I expect to see several RotJ sets in the summer wave, with a redesigned AT-ST seeming likely. Hopefully we'll finally see an Ewok Village as well.

Hoth's been done to death (and really, finally needs to be put to rest) but this set is almost exactly what I predicted it would be (right down to another snowspeeder which I had sarcastically commented elsewhere would undoubtedly make another unnecessary appearance again since we practically have more snowspeeders than were seen in the film). After all, they called it the "Battle of Hoth" rather than "Echo Base" or "Rebel Base". The only difference is that I didn't expect the probe droid (since I consider the probe droid without Han and Chewie to really serve no purpose with the scene).
