^ you may try bricklink if you are just after a part or two :)

Finally got a couple more diagon alleys. Might be one of the last times we can find this set at a decent discount. Great parts for a modular MOC.

Has anyone tried price matching and using the bogo? I doubt it'll work. But I just got two of the mirkwood spider sets and asked real quick but the lady (who had a thick indian accent so I couldn't really understand) said something about needing a physical flier and they wouldn't match online prices. I asked if I could show the lego catalogue, then I swear she said something about lego being special and they probably wouldn't do it.
  • goshe7goshe7 Member Posts: 515
^ Most stores will not combine a price match and advertised promotion. Nor will they price match %-off sales.

Interesting thought about using the LEGO catalog as a reference for price matching... I wonder if that would fly at TRU or Target to get them back to MSRP?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ They probably would do it, if asked nicely... For one item... If you walk up wtih 10, not so much. :)

Even less likely to say, "can I have MSRP, then BOGO50%, then $25 off $100, then my rewards points?"

    :)
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
TRU will only do price match on the items after all the TRU discounts have been applied...
So if there is an item with $50 RRP, and TRU price is $60, you get two with BOGO, it end up costing you $45 so TRU will not price match...
  • hleonffuhleonffu Member Posts: 247
I was able to price match against TRU.com price and get BOGO. So it depends on the person at the register.

I was going to do bricklink but I should mention that I also had a $2 off coupon so my final price after the sale and coupon was only 50¢!

Thanks for the info guys, I assumed it wouldn't work but I was curious as to peoples experiences with it

I can't get the BOGO 50% off on FAO.com for DA

I was hoping to get the $20 off to stack. Am I missing something or does the BOGO not work on this set. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up. Ordered some more 10217 and 10212. Pretty close to being done for this year. Just hoping the boxes do not arrive trashed. Wonder if [email protected] will have either of these sets on sale after xmas?
  • teal93mr2teal93mr2 Member Posts: 1,009
@doriansdad: I was wondering the same thing myself about #10217. I just couldn't take the chance of it not being available, and 25% off is about as good of a deal that I have ever seen on that set. Too bad the BOGO was not working the other day, or we could have stacked the $25 off mastercard deal as well. If it does go on sale from [email protected] or the Lego store, we can always get more! One of the best sets in recent years for sure.

^ You are all making it hard... :)

Ok, ok, fine, you win... TRU can have some money... :)

Now, we'll see how many 10217 and 10212 arrive in perfect condition. :)

Other then my wet IS, the FB, 4 x MF's and a Hoth Eco Base all arrived in great condition. That was over 5 different deliveries, so running at an 80% success rate so far. I have another 5 shipments on their way at the moment so we will see if we can knock that success rate up to 90%.

FYI this sale is also going on at http://www.fao.com since they are owned by TRU. You can use a coupon code 955904 which is $20 off $100 to help offset some of the markup. 4% cashback through ebates too.

Says 50% off second item and mine doesn't work :( Shame.

I have put 2 x 10217 into my basket (TRU now) as I haven't got these from my collection and will sell the other .. came to £210 including delivery and tax to the UK, but has anyone used TRU to the UK and do they turn up squashed to bits? I have had some from UK to UK and they were squashed a bit :(

Have to be quick as that is a great price!

Me too .. used to be HUKD, no longer. I love shopping online especially Lego. So many really nice sets nowadays. I hope it lasts :)

Where do you put the MC25 code .. can't see that anywhere when trying to put these through ?

.. never mind wouldn't work with MC or VISA to UK. I don't think they can send the 2x10217 to UK, so ended up sending to my mate in the US: I think he will be shocked, as I also sent the 2xMaersks there. 4 big sets to a non-collector - probably think I'm mad :D
    Too much Lego this month!!

How does this deal work? Would I have to buy 2 Death Stars to get half off?
  • BarneyBPBarneyBP Member Posts: 35
Theoretically, yes. But when I tried to check out with two Death Stars this morning an error displayed the maximum quantity is one.

Yeah... I dragged my feet a little bit too long. With Xmas coming up, I was getting a bit nervous about buying.

Anyone have a Diagon Alley and Hogwarts Castle with beat up boxes they'd sell for $120 a pop? Maybe including shipping? OK. That's pushing it a bit.

How about a different offer. I'll buy the parts... you keep the minifigs, box, directions, etc. You can still sell all of those. Maybe I'll throw in a set of 2011 Xmas sets to sweeten the pot.

PM if we can work something out.

  • JohnnyfinlandiaJohnnyfinlandia Member Posts: 358
My order is still 'item located in stock' .. I hope they don't say sorry but they went out of stock :( that status hasn't moved a lot from this morning ..
  • chrisdojochrisdojo Member Posts: 169
Was in a TRU yesterday. They wouldn't BOGO50 the Gandalf polybag, the manager claimed it was an accessory. At a 2nd store, the Mirkwood Elf poly DID ring up BOGO50. I plan on going back to the 2nd store and argue for BOGO50 on Gandalf. (not getting my hopes up......)
  • JosephJoseph Member Posts: 629
^ I doubt you could convince them; I didn't have any luck last night with that.

I have orders from 11/25 that still say located in stock. Apparently they got slammed over BF....expect a long wait time and crushed boxes.

  • ShpadoinkleShpadoinkle Member Posts: 420
I think they have a minimum price needed for the BOGO. The Mirkwood elves apply, the Gandalf does not. That's my experience at least.
  • chrisdojochrisdojo Member Posts: 169
One thing I noticed on the receipts, Gandolf is shown as "LOTR figure Gandolf" whereas Mirkwood Elf is shown as "LEGO LOTR HOBBIT ELF". With "LEGO" missing from Galdolf, might cause the system to not register it as a LEGO item. A possible botched entry by TRU... or done on purpose?
  • JosephJoseph Member Posts: 629

^^ If that were the case then why do CMFs qualify?
^ An interesting hypothesis (and very likely correct); unfortunately that may be all we get in explanation as I don't think even the employees know how the system works.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
I would suggest that when the computer does not allow something the managers just offer an explanation rather that try and make it right. Many of their exclusions simply do not make sense in context of their ads. So if it doesn't work, simply offer a quick explanation to the customer.
  • MilesMiles Member Posts: 51
Oh, TRU. Once I unload this $25.00 GC, I am done with you.
  • chrisdojochrisdojo Member Posts: 169
I was able to have my receipts adjusted on Gandalf at store #2. I pointed out on my Mirkwood Elf receipt that they were BOGO50 (with an Elf set in hand to show that they're the same type of set). I also pointed out that Gandolf didn't have "LEGO" in the set names on the receipt. The CSR was puzzled and double checked the exclusions just in case. In the end... maybe I just had a nice (logical?) CSR.
  • JosephJoseph Member Posts: 629
^ Hmm... I might have to try that (and hope I get different people). Thanks for the info.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
I got 4 Mirkwood Elves added to my online cart the other morning, and in the confirmation email it is 3 for $4.99 and 1 for $2.49. I won't complain. Yet.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
Too late to edit, but as I finished the above post 2 positively mint DAs were gently laid on my porch. Gently, because after the past few deliveries of up-ended boxes (which I understand: they want you to see them) I duct taped an all caps bright red note "PLEASE LAY PACKAGES FLAT" to a rake handle and laid it across my steps.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
My TRU had the Gandalfs in the store. I got a couple. Don't see a reason for bunches. (Unlike the Mirkwood Elves, which can make an army.) The Gandalfs didn't ring up as a BOGO, but I didn't complain. Not worth the hassle for $2.00 off. Now, BOGO on a $200 LEGO set would be different. As I see it, some battles are worth fighting, some not and not worth the hassle.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
No Mirkwood Elves at my TRU, but I picked up 2 Olivia's Tree House sets. Not a huge savings after you work in tax, but each of them worked out to $16.75 or so.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Also, my TRU had 3 of the Hobbit sets in stock. Would have got a few of them, but they were marked up so much that even with the BOGO they weren't much of a deal.

My TRU had a bunch of the "Unexpected Gathering" available at $79.99 (MSRP $69.99). Seems like a neat set, but couldn't warrant the mark up and dealing with dumping one of them...

On a related note, I have a TRU "express" nearby that was participating in the BOGO 50% and also had a 25% off everything coupon at the entrance (applicable to all TRU Express and Outlets it said) which they let me stack with the BOGO 50%. The store didn't have any of the bigger sets I wanted and had a slim selection of mostly SW, LOTR, City, Friends, Monsters, Ninjango. But, that is about half off so I grabbed some SW! Check around for an "outlet"!

Oh, TRU, you dirty bird...I thought I did well getting 8043 on sale, but you get the last laugh...well played, lol.

I have to say though, other than the giant labels on the front, the condition of the box is actually really good.

Thanks again @sidersdd for the heads up on the set.

  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
TRU should get its own trick, they stole that idea from Walmart!!! :)

    Sheesh!

@tk79 That's odd. I received my 8043 from LEGO today and it was in an outer shipping box that fit it perfectly. I guess it is really who is on the packing line at the time yours comes through. Sorry yours showed up like that.
  • Chang405Chang405 Member Posts: 88
@pharmjod I think the key difference is that he received his 8043 from Toys R Us while you received it from LEGO?
  • tk79tk79 Member Posts: 329
@pharmjod In their defense, I opened up the rest of the shipment after posting that. I got a few things from them including a couple more 8043 and everything else was in good shape...some of the stuff came in boxes 5x too big, but no complaints since the condition was fine...maybe they are just running low on shipping material after that sale, I'll have to send them a link to U-line!

Again...TRU and TRU Express must be different. I was by one today in Iowa (at an outlet mall) and prices were outrageous...even by TRU standards. I checked around and found the LEGO...saw no signs of BIGI 50% OFF..so I asked the lady at the counter and her reply was "If it's on sale we'd have a sign out stating it...but I'll go ask my manager." So she goes in back and comes out and says "I guess they are on sale!?" So I thought since they didn't have a clue about it, I'd check out the Ninjago and maybe I'd get a B1G1 50% Ninjago sets. Wrong!! Ninjago 9448 Samurai Mech...$48.98, 9444 Coles Assault Vehicle a mear $68.89 and 9449 Ultra Sonic Raider $98.89 and even Friends Cafe Corner was a cool $45.89.

^ The TRU BOGO specifically excludes Ninjago.
