Hello Everyone,

I saw this tidbit of information over at Eurobricks and wanted to share it here. LOTR will have new sets in 2013 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/8138388507/in/photostream).

In the post below it states 8 sets in March 2013. It lists out 3 of the 8 sets with piece count and minifigures.

Good to know there will be a Saruman.

    But ...

    Set 790xx - Treebeard encounter
    Includes: Merry, Pippin, Orc, Treebeard(brickbuild)
    Pieces: 583
    Price Range: $60

That tree is going to have to be good to justify $60, if there are three existing minifigs with it. I wonder if they will do a modification to Merry and Pippin.
  • kylejohnson11kylejohnson11 Member Posts: 508
@CCC from the piece count, it should be a decent Treebeard.

Set 790xx - The betrayal of Isengard
Includes: Gandalf, Saruman, 5 Mordor Orcs(no Uruk Hai). It will also include the Palantir.
    Pieces: 1034
    Price Range: $100

Set 790xx - Bridge of Khazad Dum
    Includes: Gandalf, Balrog(brickbuild)
    Pieces: 291
    Price Range: $40

Given two new Hobbit sets will have Gandalf, and another two new LOTR sets too, I wonder if the first of these will be White. A Wormtongue would be good too, in place of an orc.

I'll post this comment on this thread, Is this possibly the isengard tower on the picture slightly to the left of the big lego toy story woody and buzz for the betrayal of isengard set

Not that the minifigs always make sense, but Gandalf the White doesn't fit with either of those sets.

^I'm no expert, but isn't Gandalf white when he returns to Isengard after the Ents trash it and Pippin takes the Palantir?
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
Yes, but the Betrayal of Isengard should reflect the scene from Fellowship when Gandalf goes to seek advice from Saruman, not the abomination of a scene from RotK.

Guys according to that user on eurobricks who gave us this info about these sets has removed the info because he has said that he shouldn't have shared it because he could get into trouble but luckily we have all three bits of info of these sets on here

I know. But surely they cannot do five sets with the same grey version.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
^They can always the do the much sought after 'battle-damaged' Gandalf with Betrayal of Isengard and then, of course, 'with hair' Gandalf for Khazad Dum (for that set supposedly being a brick-built Balrog and (presumably) the bridge itself... that's an awfully low piece count).
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,631
^ yeah I was thinking the same thing about the piece count for that one. Hope it has a 'collapse the bridge' feature you can activate with Gandalf's staff.

Excellent catch! It actually looks more like the tower of the great eye in Mordor than Isengard.

^ you could be right on that one, it would be interesting to see how lego would make the lidless eye of sauron, hopefully they will make that one for another time, also it would be great if there was a black gate of mordor
  • kezkez Member Posts: 831
In this picture you can also see some other lotr/hobbit sets in the area where the lotr sets are, I hope some of them will be the upcoming sets, but they could just be another MOC http://ow.ly/i/HJQX/original
There looks to be some sort of dragon on them shelfs aswell as an osgilliath set, I could be wrong though because some of them are hard to make out.

I hate to be the voice of depression but these really don't sound right to me. The piece counts seem to low for the sets and the Bridge set works out about 14 cents a peice way above even lego's costings normally. Plus why would they release sets in May when they have just released a load of hobbit sets. It means in the first half of the year there will be 10-12 LOTR sets. Seems a bit high to me. Its more than star wars.

@Kez it could be a Nazgul. Although I never set much store in the pictures sadly. Just that it looks the best place to work ever.
  • kezkez Member Posts: 831
#Redbullgivesuwind yeah you are probably right about the nazgul, shame it ain't the witch king, I would also love to work there, it looks so fun and also it looks an easy job, they even get a slide in their office

^^^^Can I interject how awesome that the probe droid is?
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
^That's exactly what I was thinking. Add a UCS Probe Droid to the list of things that need to be made before they ever think about rehashing a set.

And I agree with @redbullgivesuwind - as I mentioned with the Balrog set... the piece count sounds way off, or it just seems like it will be a lackluster set.

I can't make anything out other than that tower and Helms Deep to the right?

But what excited me was that pirate ship to the right of the Atlantis sets and before the LotR sets! I'd love another pirate ship
  • RedbullgivesuwindRedbullgivesuwind Member Posts: 2,115
^^exactly; if you are doing a bridge set then you will need a lot more peices. And I would expect more peices for a $40 set.
  • kezkez Member Posts: 831
Here is what a brick built ent would look like, it's from the Lego lotr game

I hope that's what the Ent set looks like! two brick built ents. That way I could buy a couple sets and do a couple alternate builds to make them look different. Then set them up outside my helms deep ready to smash the Orcs to pieces.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
^Fan of the books, are you?
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ only problem there is that it wasn't Ents outside Helms Deep it was just trees. The Ents dealt with Isengard.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
It actually was the Huorns at the behest of the Ents in the book. Most people don't know this because Jackson managed to completely bungle the battle at Aglarond/Hornburg in the film. Helm's Deep (or possibly the preposterous nonsense at Osgiliath) is pretty much the point where I felt the Jackson trilogy began to snowball out of control until it culminated in the catastrophe that was Return of the King and its twenty-two different endings.

Regardless, if the brick-built Ents turn out nearly as well as they look in that screenshot, I'll probably pick up two or three.

Pirate ship huh.. one of the Corsair ships or whatever they were that the ghost army took over in the movie? If so I hope it is well done and not Sponge bob flying dutchman style =)
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
I'm also curious about the pirate ship and, further, if they'll be combining Hobbit and LotR sets together in single waves going forward. Though the Great Eagles played a minor role in Return of the King, an Eagle's Nest set makes much more sense in the Hobbit line.

I'm intrigued by the 'Frodo and Ringwraith' set. There already is a set for Weathertop, so the only other scenes that make sense are

    i) Frodo escaping from the Shire and being chased by Nazgul
ii) Nazgul on Fell Beast attacking Osgiliath while Frodo is there (I know, not in the books, you purists).

The second makes more sense to me, and Osgiliath could be a very intricate set. Also, maybe a Faramir minifig?
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
    edited November 2012
The only set I envisioned was Frodo out on the battlement, holding the ring out to the Nazgûl. Even though it is absolutely a ridiculous scene, I think it's one of the most iconic shots from the movie. Given the supposed title of the set, I'll be pretty shocked if it's much more intricate than the Uruk-hai Army... though I suspect the Fell Beast will inflate the price.

Faramir makes sense as an additional figure in the set as well, and one can hope for a couple Gondor soldiers, though I'm not holding my breath on that bit.

On a side note, it's not the fact that this scene wasn't in the book that drives most purists nuts. It's because it's utterly absurd.

If they make Treebeard and the Balrog match the models from the new video game I would be happy. The upcoming 3-in-1 creator series eagle looks like it could be used for a LOTR eagle if need be.

I couldn't find any posts about the four Lord of the Rings sets listed at Brickset for a 2013 release. Are we not excitedly awaiting news about "79005 The Wizard Battle", "79006 The Council of Elrond", "79007 Battle at the Black Gate" and "79008 Pirate Ship Ambush"?

These sets should all include great structures and minifigures! Except for the wizard battle, I suppose that will only feature Gandalf and Saruman. The big question there is of course, will it feature Orthanc (Saruman's residence), or will it just be some furniture of sorts, like in "4191 Captain's Cabin"? I have a feeling this will be the small set of the line up. Unless there actually is a "Frodo and Ringwraith" set.

"79006 The Council of Elrond", can come in all sizes. I'm thinking it will be the 40£ set, featuring the council, and some structures. All sorts of minifigures might be included, and probably some we've seen before. Some new ones will surely be Elrond, and old Bilbo. Maybe Frodo in a white shirt, with a west (even though he wears the same clothes as always in the actual council scene).

"79007 Battle at the Black Gate": I assume this set will be the biggest of the line up, featuring the large Black Gate. I'm sure of at least two minifigures we'll get in this set: Gandalf the White, and Aragorn in his royal armor. There should be two trolls included, as they're required to open the gate. I'm expecting at least four orcs, but that's probably too optimistic. Two Gondorian soldiers would be nice, and I think we might get Pippin in Gondorian armor, as well as Merry in his clothes from Rohan. We might also get the Mouth of Sauron, although he's only in the extended version of the films, so it might not be too likely.

"79008 Pirate Ship Ambush", I was kind of expecting this set, seeing as LEGO has some history with battle ships. This set is likely to feature many nice details, as the pirate ships from Umbar have very nice designs, featuring new sails, amongst other things. The minifigures will probably be three or four pirates, Aragorn, and some ghosts (hopefully a lot). Maybe an orc, or two, depending on the size.

What do you think will come out of the next line of LotR sets?

I am with you on the fact that we have still not heard anything definitive on LOTR 2013 . Lego would likely be coming out with 5-6 at best , but the rumors we hearing and the titles seem to be conflicting . So What is the final line up .. hmmm

This is what i found a few days back and posted on the form :

Considering the fact that we don't actually see the eagles' nest in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" I find it hard to believe we'll be getting a set based on that. Even though I seem to remember we got a strictly book based Harry Potter set, back in '04.

The set number on the one you listed as "Ghost Ship" matches the one listed on Brickset, so I guess there's some truth to it. I see the set number on the eagle set is the same as the "Black Gate", a scene which features eagles... So maybe we are getting some eagles. Lucky for Thorin and Bifur in "Attack of the Wargs".
  • thorniethornie Member Posts: 245
^ As with the Mirkwood Spider set and the Barrel Escape, the Eagles Nest set will be a "preview set" for the next film. The Eagles nest scene in the book happens right after the Wargs attack the Dwarves in the tree. It will definitely be in the next Hobbit movie.

Is that confirmed, or speculation? Beorn is apparently in the first movie, and that comes after the eagles. I've been assuming the first movie will end after the stay at Beorn's, with Gandalf's departure as the party heads into Mirkwood. Of course, it could just be that everything in the movies is mixed up.

^ No idea how Peter Jackson is going to play it out, but if it follows the book timeline, you are correct the scenes with Beorn are after the Eagles. One thing to note, not one film review has mentioned any of the scenes with Beorn, which is odd because they are amongst the most memorable in the book. So I would assume the first film ends right as the Dwarves get stuck in the tree, OR when they escape the Mountain.

I'm very excited about the idea of new LOTR sets, except so little is known that all these conversations end up along the vein of" Wouldn't it be cool if...", and "I think LEGO will do/should do this..."

Not enough 'meat' to sink my teeth into yet, if you will. I don't want to get too excited about something only to have it turn out to be false.

The only thing I am wanting in the 2013 LOTR sets is a Gandalf the White minifigure.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
We don't for sure know that is coming. I'd want Gandalf the White plus Saruman then Wormtongue then Eowyn then the other elves and females plus Sauron both as a body and the eye ... and on. I just hope there is not repetition in sets like council of Elrond of existing minifigs.

    ***THE HOBBIT SPOILER ALERT***
The film ends with the eagles' rescue, but they don't bring them to their nests, they leave them at Carrock, just before they meet Beorn.
