^ We do trust you, or at least I do... but until there is an official press release, TLG can change their mind... :)

True! they could always design a new Modular Building, just too prove me wrong! :P

I don't think TLG releases their announcements until Grogall has approved them anyway.

they should include small letter tiles so that you can spell out the names of movies that you would like to have playing in the cinema

Does anybody reckon for the cinema their will be a light up brick behind a sticker in the booth where the projector is, that would be cool if there was a big lego picture on the cinema screen with a light up brick, I'd doubt it would happen though

No, but I am thinking of modding it to fit my iPod Touch in the screen area, and then can play an actual movie for the minifigs to watch.

    ^ that would be cool

I finally built the Town Hall after sitting on it for about 6 mo. Bring on the next modular. They are the highlight of collecting LEGO.
  • vadersixvadersix Member Posts: 4
Quickish point. If this set is to be slightly cheaper than some of the more recent modular buildings and is a large cinema, wouldn't the number of minfigs needed to make it look even half full (with vendors, customers, stewards etc) push the price up more? Or alternatively mean that quality or special elements suffers?

I'm just gonna fill it with what I have but, well, y'know...
  • thorniethornie Member Posts: 245
^ I'm not quite sure this will be cheaper than the other modulars. If anything it will follow the current trend and will be $199+. If you look at the last few large exclusive sets (Town Hall, Haunted House, B-Wing) prices have been increasing. I would expect $199 to be the new base for modulars going forward and it wouldn't surprise me if we see a $249 modular by the end of next year.
  • dougtsdougts Oregon, USAMember Posts: 4,129
I would expect them to sit at the $200 price point for at least another release or two, allow people time to adjust to the new normal before going up again.
  • vadersixvadersix Member Posts: 4
That's what I'm worried about. It would be nice to see prices reduced a bit but not at the expense of difficulty or build quality. Can't see it being cheaper myself; especially as TLG know that poor, smitten buggers like ourselves will buy it! Probably...

I think people overestimate the size of this cinema. It's basically an empty room with chairs and Lego will not dedicate a lot of space to that. Look at the auditorium in the Town Hall; it's small and compact. As for figures, Lego doesn't have to fill the seats or even attempt to. I don't see more than six figures (tickets, concessions and four moviegoers) as likely.

I think because of the reseller boom, TLG may have a skewed view on the adult market. Once the crash happens (and it will happen eventually) they'll realize that "popularity" was an illusion and either lower the prices a tad or it could cause them to end the modular line. Ya never know.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,098
I really hope that $199 is not the new norm for modular pricing. I personally think that they will keep them around 2,000 pcs. and $180 (which is still too much IMO).
  • vadersixvadersix Member Posts: 4
Fair point, I suppose it is all idle speculation at this point anyway. In terms of pricing, does anybody know how many of each modular is produced? Because surely the supply and percieved demand has an effect on retail and then resale price.

Honestly, I'm surprised there has not been a thread on price in general, or maybe there was and I just missed it. I've considered starting one for a while now.

My perspective is that Lego has been moving the overall price point up this year. I haven't done any analysis to determine if that is simply just perspective or if it is reality.

for once/year sets (modulars, winter village), I would rather pay a slightly higher price then get an incomplete/watered down product (i.e. pet shop interiors)

for main-line themes, it is of course a different story, and they generally have a wide range of price points per theme.

I do have to agree... this is why I can't pull the trigger on GE. The inside feels highly incomplete. Compare that to the townhall, where even my 5 year old son adored the interior of it, to the point he was trying to convince me how much he desperately wants that set. :-)

The price for 10232 Palace Cinema is €129 which would mean a maximum price in the US would be $129 - $149 and not $199.
  • dougtsdougts Oregon, USAMember Posts: 4,129
^ well, i can't imagine it's going to go down below $149 - that would be shocking and signal a lot of cut corners on the design.

Even at $149 I'm suspect given the piece count/detail to price ratio we've seen in 2012. At that price point, I suspect it's 2 stories only, which also makes sense for a Cinema of course.

in any case, looking forward to seeing it
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
For the Palace Cinema price, maybe it has fewer bricks because the interior is one large room with seats, instead of 3 floors with furniture. They definitely need to appeal to more mid-level price points in this line.
  • turtle1173turtle1173 Member Posts: 230
It's likely in the 2,000 piece range. I'm looking forward to it.

I know sales on the mods are usually few and far between. However, they usually ALL go on sale at some point (even if it's just a little). I was doubtful that I would pick up the town hall because of the $200 price point but I managed to get it for $146 at Amazon a couple weeks back. I know that was a crazy sale but patience usually pays off (unless you wait too long, lol)

^$146??? Are you sure? I could have sworn it was $161. That's when I bought mine.
  • turtle1173turtle1173 Member Posts: 230
I was a little off. $148.79 was the total. That was on October 5th.

That's part of the fun of GE. I modded the third floor into a Christmas toy display complete with Santa Yoda and a micro version of the Millennium Falcon.

TH got as low as 120 at walmart...don't know if it was ever in stock at that price, but my 149 purchase was adjusted down to 120 so that's what I paid...

That was a crazy sale by WM and not sure we can count on that every year...would be nice though!
  • vadersixvadersix Member Posts: 4
To refer to my original point, €129/$149/£105ish does seem a little cheap. I know it's rumour but you have to wonder if there will be shortcuts taken somewhere...

Oh and I'm a newbie btw so be kind.

I was hoping the next modular was a live performance theater instead of a cinema. I am also hoping for the hardware store as well.

Well over the christmas holiday I was able to see a picture of the next Modular Building Palace Cinema.

Here are things I can tell you

    It's a corner Building

with 2 floors and a roof

    it comes with a limousine

    its a Chinese stile theater

it comes with at least six Minifigures

it has search lights which can be placed on the sidewalk

the overall colour is tan and light brown. roof is a mix of 1x1 round tiles in red and dark red!

the sign that says "Cinema" is blue with white writing that says Cinema there are also lots of 1x1 round tiles on the front of the sign in yellow to show lights.

the Limousine is black and open like a convertible

    the sidewalk is very detailed!

if I can think of more I will add it here!

Cool, the more colours of 1x1 round tiles, the happier I am!

There's been speculation on whether there'd be a sign listing the movies on show and whether this would use letter tiles... can you confirm @Grogall?

beautiful! love the gothic roof .. the full moon suits it well. This is truly beautiful architecture, nice work. thank goodness! after last time I was a bit worried. cant wait to see more.

Looks great, but to be honest I expect all the Modulars to look good, and so far the have. I suppose the Town Hall is a little plain compared to this but I still like it.

Nice homage to L.A.'s Mann's Chinese theatre.

    Any peeks at the interior?
