Got this yesterday as well. My wife joked that she was going to throw it out on me before I got home because she knows it is going to cost us a lot of money!

^ Doesn't she know it saves you money. Somehow. In the long run. That's my justification.
  • itsnotmeitsnotme Member Posts: 126
Is there typically free shipping with this promotion as well?

Hang in there amigo. Marie did the same thing...no more Lego!!! I tried by convincing her I'd be putting those points for Xmas gifts. Don't know if she bought it...;) I need the Lego store to print bags that don't have the logo and get rid of that bright yellow. Don't they know it's hard to hide it around the house!

^ Adult stores ship in plain packaging. Don't see why Lego could not do the same thing ;)

And you would know that... how? :)

Actually, Lego does ship in pretty plain boxes... It is the bright yellow carry out bags in the retail stores that stand out. But those are free advertising as people walk though the mall.

My local store falls into a "no more plastic bags" zone, so they use plain brown shopping bags, for 10 cents each of course. :)

Received same postcard....however, someone from marketing and/or graphics screwed up the analogy graphic on the back side of the postcard.

^^^ I thought it was just common knowledge. No?

Looking at it again......you're right. I don't like how they presented the examples, which through me off. Should of just said....10% off for VIP members.

    @ccc
    @LegoDad42

My wife was kidding with me but the amount I spend on LEGO is a point of contention. She is awesome and would never hide a LEGO mailing from me.

Yes, the more I spend I'm October, the more I save!

    @bmwlego

I just bought my wife a new 5 Series BMW, that has earned me a lot of Lego buying points :)
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^ Especially if you told her you used your Lego profits ;)
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
Lol. Although I would be better off with $60k worth of Lego sitting in the garage rather than $60k worth of car.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Tough decisions. Do I purchase much needed equipment for the business or buy Lego? I finally scratched a check for a new van for the business yesterday after delaying it for the longest time. Hmmm, hold off, buy more Lego, sell next Christmas and be further ahead???

My wife does not care to hear me ponder such things any more . . .

:) That is no longer a $60K car, sad to say...

I know the feeling, I bought my wife a new Yukon XL last month, to replace our 2007. Finally, air conditioned seats in the summer in Texas! :)

But yes, the money would be better spent on Lego.

Wait a minute? You're not married to littletoki, are you? She drives a BMW!!! :)

No!!! I'm not. Don't start spreading rumors now.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
Yeah, as soon as we drove it off the lot, I said "there goes $12,000 in Lego"
  • princedravenprincedraven Member Posts: 3,764
So do you get double VIP point for these vehicles? Or are you way off subject?

I received mine yesterday and the graphic on mine is accurate, but hard to understand. It says that you earn 2 points for every $1, and that for 100 points you get $5. Not the clearest way to say it, but... it does then say that you get a $5 reward for every $50 spent.

Pitfall69: Maybe you should've got the missus a full sized Lego car like the F1 car on another thread. Easy to repair after a smash and should depreciate like Lego and not like a car.

:) Gee thanks, now I need a new keyboard, mine has coffee all over it!

^^Changing the colour is really easy too, no respray unless you want a custom chrome bricks job.

This kind of discussion always reminds me of the Monty Python sketch where they describe ladies who "always spend a fortune on bargains."

Double VIP points sounds exciting, but remember it's only about a 10% discount that can only be used toward a FUTURE purchase. Not that discounts are a bad thing, but I've done a lot better with other sales and clearance items recently. Maybe I'm spoiled with the past year's 30-50% discounts.

I wish they'd just do like Target and make it a flat 5% off with the loyalty card.

    *steps down from soapbox*
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^totally agree with this. It's actually just a 5% discount over the existing 5% given. Double VIP points is the most effective promo strategy used by TLG, driving up monthly revenue without discounting anything or losing on free shipping, therefore maximized profit margins.

If you waited another month, BF gives you automatic 10% off or more on all purchases in-store, plus the existing 5% VIP points, a Christmas promo set, holiday PAB box equivalent to a large PAB cup, plus a lot of sets are going to be on sale to begin with at 10%-25% off.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Brickdancer: for the last 2 years they've done double VIP points and then added in free shipping a week into the promotion. Am I right in thinking the Xmas giveaway also comes in at this time?
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
    ^In the UK.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^^ Last year the Xmas giveaway was communicated on the actual calendar. It's absent from the October one this year. However I suppose it could still be a surprise announcement.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,633
So I am guessing that there is little chance that the current 2X VIP promotions like the Sith Collection etc. will be quadrupled to 4x during Oct. is there?
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Bumblepants - almost no chance. I only got the first half of the christmas 2 part set last year, when I ordered the Death Star, There was nothing else to entice me to spend another £50 in November.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,633
Yeah I am not holding my breath. I think I will save the last of my Lego budget to grab whatever looks good on Black Friday. Hoping the Death Star or Diagon Alley will still be lingering then
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
There are many sets that will "probably" be going EOL soon that most likely will not be part of BF -- sets that don't ever go on sale. Some sets just do not need to go on sale. October is a good time to pick them up.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Good time to pick up the B-Wing to build. Double points and a free TC-14 to boot! Can't imagine people loading up on B-Wings now just for that, do hopefully it won't effect the price much.

Yes, but in the UK, it is free TC-14 with any SW Lego purchase over £50, so they will come down a bit.

Moreover they are giving TC-14s out in stores too, where they have a little more flexibility. I cheekily asked and got one today as I was buying a lot of (non-Star Wars) sets.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^ yeah, that will be very limited tho. Almost thought I was going to get a TC-14 today under that scenario but didn't. Maybe a different story somewhere else :P

I can't find the answer anywhere - Are the points listed next to items on the Lego shop the normal amount of points, or are they already doubled? I want to pick up a Fire Brigade set, and it lists the VIP points as 299. Is that what I would be getting, or with double points would that make it 598 VIP points?

I am guessing the 299 is after the promotion. With 598 points, that's almost $30 in rewards.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
    Normal 5%, double is 10%
  • CupIsHalfEmptyCupIsHalfEmpty Member Posts: 545
You normally get 1 point per dollar spent. FB is $150, so normally 150 VIP points. 299 would be the double VIP points.
  • lannyjacklannyjack Member Posts: 39
Awesome, thank you for clearing that up for me.
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
Talking about the FB, it is not in the latest Catalog, finally retiring ?
  • lannyjacklannyjack Member Posts: 39
I am just getting back into Legos, and this will be my first Black Friday paying attention to the Lego deals. Does something like the FB get discounted if its going to be retired? The Lego store lists it as "Hard to find". I would hate for it to be discounted after buying it at full price, but I would it be even worse if I wait too long and its gone.

I would not look too much into catalogs, as GE is currently sold out and but many accounts done even though it was in the catalog.
If GE is an indicator (and really gone) I'd say that FB should be on its way out, as it was extended for a year past when Mods usually retire, presumably due to the Set batch that had parts missing.
Either way it is a great looking set, and with some nice parts and with double points a good set to get, along with GE (if speculators are not clearing out LEGO stores that still have GE due to it being gone from LEGO [email protected])

I would not wait and hope FB is going to be discounted.. in all the Mods in the past, none have been available when the BF sales starts (MAYBE MAYBE a couple of Green Grocers were available by some accounts, but not many if they did go on sale, LEGO showed that they would have been on sale, if not for being sold out online)
Id say with double points now is the best time to buy if you can afford it.. otherwise keep an eye out at sites like Amazon.com and Walmart, TRU, Target, etc for sales for them
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Keep in mind that "Hard to Find" does not mean what you think it does...

It means that it isn't a general availability set offered to any retailer, it is only sold at select retailers. In this case, Amazon, TRU, Walmart, Target, etc. Smaller LEGO dealers cannot order the set, so it is "Hard to Find".

Also, smaller sets that have this label, such as Luke's Landspeeder, are store exclusives, in that case, only Walmart and the LEGO Store sell it, Amazon and Target don't carry it.

^Target occasionally gets "Hard to Finds."

Just this year Ninjago had three hard to finds, one of them being only at Target besides Lego:
    #9455 -Target
    #9456 -Walmart
    #9457 -TRU
It's usually one set from one series for the entire year. It just usually isn't Star Wars.

I received [email protected] package today (ordered on 10/23), it included a Series 7 minifig (that I didn't order) with "Brick or Treat" note saying it was included as a Thank you. Is it an non advertised special for the Halloween Week ?
  • AmberylAmberyl Member Posts: 193
Ditto -- yesterday I received a single order in two boxes. Both boxes had the note and minifig.
  • bluedragonbluedragon Member Posts: 506
Same here- I like surprises like this!
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ yep. one (large) order was split into 5 boxes - got a S7 figure in each box.
  • adol7adol7 Member Posts: 150
If your order took up 5 boxes, you deserved a few minifigs. :p
