The orange is starting to grow on me for this set. I don't think I have seen yellow minifigs with those ridiculous white smiles tho....are they new to this set? Hope they keep those smiles far away from future modulars.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
^The modulars are pretty much the only sets I know of anymore that use the 'classic' generic smile heads. These crazy minifig heads are in just about everything anymore.

Brief aside, I just noticed the male/female minfig split is 50/50 and not only that, a female is operating the train. Good progress from Lego in that domain, perhaps this is a sign of better ratios to come throughout System

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think they're making an effort on that front. Perhaps some of that can be attributed to the criticisms after the Friends line was revealed.

Is there a thread that explains 'trains' in general as I have a few questions?

    This might help: http://www.brickset.com/brickLists/?4855

I am so pleased at this news - when I saw the post last night, I had my fingers crossed for a new train...and one that's an adult build (i.e. not 5-12) is right up my street. Good looking price too.

Also chuffed that the driver is a lady...WOOHOO!

Totally stoked, and so happy that I bought EN last year...which led to me getting the passenger train and the cargo train and extra track. Reckon I am definitely a train convert now.

On that topic, I unveiled the haunted house to my 3yr old daughter yesterday. Guess which of the 6 mini figs she immediately went for and played with nearly the entire time? Yep, the one and only female. The others did get to join in on a dance party later on then they all took naps. She doesn't understand why they don't each have their own bedroom.

Guys, we should not be praising the price tag because lego might do the same to this one like they did to the haunted house (up £30)
  • caperberrycaperberry Member Posts: 2,226
I think they'd really be foolish to up the price, coming soon after the HH debacle. They can only test our love so far...

Am I the only one surprised that LEGO officially put a "bar" into a set? Has that ever been done before?
  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
I don't know whether to be happy or sad that I just picked up a Passenger Train during the Walmart/Amazon fire sale. Happy that I will have the track and PF supply. Sad that I would have preferred to wait for this and use my 9V supplies to motorize.

Wish the control panel wasn't a sticker though. grrr.

You'll just need to make sure you make a better job of applying it than they did!! ;-) Shame on you TLG.

They already have, if you purchase the HE (Im sure that will be its abbreviation) with Power Functions and track.

Nice looking train, will be for me and go nicely with the cargo and passenger trains the kids are getting for christmas. Just hope we dont get another price hike.

I dunno, Id say anyone that got a passenger train from Amazon for 97 got a really good deal.
If I did not already have a few due to a BOGO50 that TRU had (long before they spiked prices on all of their sets) I would have pounced on that.

I think that people really need to learn how to deal with stickers from LEGO... Look at it this way, at least there does not appear to be as many stickers as is on the EN
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,827
@madforLEGO - Too true, although at least the EN wasn't licensed and so multiples could be sourced cheaply. Question is, is this??
  • Si_UKNZSi_UKNZ Member Posts: 4,179
no, otherwise they would have used the TGV logo instead of 2 arrows.
  • turtle1173turtle1173 Member Posts: 230
Cool video. That's great that there definitely is going to be an "expert" line and that it's not just an assumption of ours.
  • MrBerreMrBerre Member Posts: 246
Gotta love that they used VLC to play that video. ;-)
  • leego76leego76 Member Posts: 360
@jenni and @turtle1173 Thanks for the info, I think my confusion came from the fact that the set guide has the Maersk listed as a 9v subset! All makes a bit more sense now
  • leego76leego76 Member Posts: 360
@Si_Dorking_Surrey_UK Thanks - now, do I consider buying EN even at the somewhat inflated prices! And I know it is not going to get any cheaper
  • cbaker1974cbaker1974 Member Posts: 150
Train looks ok, but to me doesn't have a lot of wow factor...Emerald Night and Maersk Train are way better IMO. Would have preferred to see the more modern TGV.

Would have preferred to see the more modern TGV.

But there's no historical significance in doing a current TGV
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Does anyone remember what the train type in Back to the Future III was? That would make a great Lego set if they ever do BTTF.
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,827
Lol. We're not going to start a thread of quotes again are we? We can't rewrite the future you know! :-)

Only a few weeks ago it was suggested I had a go at that train.
  • oldtodd33oldtodd33 Member Posts: 2,727
@LegoFanTexas It was a 4-6-0 Wood fired stea engine.

That kinda looks like it, but not quite...

    Wow... found it...

Turns out, the same train has been in, well, everything!

Wow - the inverted tile seems like a great new piece!

It's funny how you and the people in the video have no idea that it isn't a new piece.
#9448 Samurai Mech has three in dark bley.

You mean bar as in snack bar? Nothing about it indicates they sell alcoholic beverages ;)

I know that many cafe cars do indeed sell alcohol on trains, but consider that you also can buy a variety of other items there too and socially it's fine to bring your kids over.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,724
The current blue/silver TGV would be rather boring in Lego form. It would almost certainly be blue/bley instead of silver bricks and thanks to SW we have quite enough giant bley sets.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Yes, but if they would do it in silver, or chrome, they'd sell a ton of them. :)
  • khmellymelkhmellymel Member Posts: 1,314
^ I think even red instead of orange would have the same effect. I dunno, something about orange just seems so 80s to me... and for some reason I always think of orange or yellow trains as dingy.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Of course, the irony is that if I bought this for my son, he'd probably love the orange. :)

Will be an advanced build for a 7 year old (his birthday is next month), but he could do it with a bit of help here and there with the power functions.
  • BillybrownBillybrown Member Posts: 748
I like the Horizon but wont be buying as many as I did with the EN as that one was a cast iron guarantee to do well.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,551

Too bad it will take 2 to make it look authentic... that will cost a chunk

Brief aside, I just noticed the male/female minfig split is 50/50 and not only that, a female is operating the train.

Maybe they are linked. She was too busy doing her make-up and she left the station with only half a train :-)

Well it was an '80s train! And was orange! And probably became very dingy with time ;O) Historical accuracy y'know...

Having five trains being actively sold seems like a lot for TLG. I wonder if one or more is going to be dropped soon? If I had to guess I would go with #3677 or #10219, but I'm notoriously wrong at predictions.
  • iancam33iancam33 Member Posts: 407
The new year won't come soon enough to be able to pick up this set.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
I'd be shocked if #10219 goes this early, it's only been a year and a half. it's got another year to go. They had 10194 and 10219 both on sale together for a good 8 months, don't see any reason they can't overlap 10219 and 10233.

if anything is duplicative, it's the yellow and red cargo trains. i'd bet on the yellow (older) one going away before any of the others.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,724
I think I also read somewhere on this site awhile back that the Maersk Train could only last as long as they had the special Maersk blue ABS? Or maybe that was the Container Ship before it. Anyway, that might be a reason it would disappear quicker than normal if indeed it does.

The official video (same one as above, but not recorded off a projector) has been posted on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=661790430101
It's not on youtube yet, as far as I know.
