    Under the category of "too good to be true" -- anyone else in the DC area see this listing?

    I wrote to the seller last night shortly after the ad posted (offering to meet in person and pay cash -- no way I would do this one any other way) and got no response. I suspect the lack of response proves it was not legit.

    I am almost sure it is a scam, but a part of me wonders . . . . Anyone else bite?

    Scam. I've seen that post in other cities (all which were shortly taken down due to flags).

    I had a dream last night that my next door neighbor kept leaving large pieces of valuable sets outside for anyone to pick up. First day's haul included UCS Falcon, XWing, and Death Star. Probably my subconscious processing the Craigslist offer above.

    Definite scam - same thing we're seeing here in the UK too.

    Not a particular special bargain or rare find but picked up #9462 mummy #9466 crazy scientist #9467 ghost train and #9468 vampire castle in the smyths 20% off to go with the swamp monster vampire hearse and werewolf have already and zombie car on its way via trade.

    The brag bit? Done in full knowledge and agreement of the other half to create a Halloween display for the lounge - first time Lego of that size will be allowed on display! (we did have team gb figs out during the Olympics and Paralympics!)

    Caught #4768 Durmstrang Ship for $100 on eBay, no box but mint ship, instructions and minifigs. :)

    Also on same day, I got to grab a #8274 Combine Harvester for $60 on eBay also. Haven't received that one yet but waiting patiently :)

    Managed to get 244 sun promos form a Jumble sale on Saturday in Midsummer Norton. I asked where they got them from and was told they were donated by a local shop. Worked out at just over 13p each as I paid £30.00 for the lot.

    I got a lego #7783 bat cave for £52 including postage of eBay, but sadly some pieces were missing and there were no mini figures included

    Picked up a complete 6923 the other day for 20 bucks, box and instructions in great shape and the bricks look like they were put together once and then put back in the box for 20 years. Neat little ship with lots of swooshability!

    Bought a craiglist lot today for $40 with what I thought was just a jumble of old bricks. Imagine my surprise when it had a COMPLETE #375 Yellow Castle in it! All stickers where sharp and all minifigs and accesories were there! Even the knights visors were there. To top it off the instructions were in the bottom of the box.

    This was my first set as a kid and next to the Galaxy Explorer by far my favorite vintage set.

    Lot also had some complete classic space sets including #6951. Not bad for a lazy Sunday afternoon!

    I am so jealous.

    My best find was a troll mountain fortress from a second hand shop for 4 bucks. only had 4 complete(i think) figures, 1 figure - minus the right torso, a figure w/o the legs, and the "minus the right torso" was the female torso. Bought it months ago and haven't decided what to do with it yet. but for now, i'm using 2 45 degree angle pieces for a project.

    Donated by a local shop... right.... My local Smiths were so tight on having the exact vouchers and not giving out spares. I heard something about them having to return leftovers but don't know whether this was true.

    OMG! I went to Walmart after work today. As usual, I checked out the clearance section in search of anything LEGO. I was very surprised to find set 9466 Monster Fighters The Crazy Scientist & His Monster for only $10.00. I got the last and only one I could find. When asked, an employee reported that they just had way too many Monster Fighters sets so had to clear some out. I'm very grateful that I got one. Just wishing I would have gotten there sooner.

    ^The Wal-Mart by me has the Vampyre Castle for $69 and also Helm's Deep for $79. It looks like they're trying to get rid of stock on a lot of the larger sets, though I'm not sure what they intend to replace them with...

    You should. Maybe you're one of the lucky ones with walmarts that put stuff on a really good clearence. Only really good bargins i found was the 15 buck atlantis HQ bargin and $1 series 5 minifigure packs but those were roughly 2 years ago for the HQ and roughly a half year ago for the CMF's.

    ^ I just checked one of the 2, but they've really minimized the LEGO section there but no good clearance. Checking the other in the morning but it is the one with a really big LEGO section where the pack in everything to keep it all at regular price.

    I need your opinion! I got offered the UCS Star Destroyer,it's used (but seems in flawless cond.)and comes with instructions and Box for 350€ (that's his last price)! Is it a no-brainer?

    Two Craigslist hauls of note in the last month (one of them I still have to pick up the rest):

    Haul 1!
    7955, 7946 (King's Castle!), 7949, 7953, 7187, 7947, 7948, 7188, 7950, 6918, 7189.
    I paid $140. No boxes, some sets missing instructions. Priced out the grand total for all of the missing pieces: $3.50! A lot of these sets are tee-ninsey, but King's Castle and Mill Village Raid are worth it alone.

    Haul 2!
    7078, 7090, 7094 (King's Castle Siege -- yeah!), 7040, 7038, 7037. Paid $75. Instructions for all but no boxes.

    An important caveat for Haul 2: I still have to sort through the rest of the lady's collection to get the rest of the parts. She swears she's got all the figurines, including the red/black dragon. This sorting involves sitting in a basement that smells of cat pee and digging through dusty tubs of legos. Totally worth it!

    Wow. I am steeped in jealousy. In a CL find this summer I found one dragon wing, one tail, and one foot from the 7094 dragon, just enough to make me stare at the set pictures and sigh.

    @littlespider How did you manage to buy specific sets from someone that has tubs of LEGO without those sets being sorted out already or buying the whole lot? I'm surprised someone is letting you sit in their basement and dig through stuff.

    Initially she said I'd have to buy the whole tub for $200, because the lego kingdoms sets were mixed in with a bunch of megablocks dragon sets. (I'm pretty new to the Lego madness, but I thought that megablocks were not worth all that much.) So I just asked her if it would be possible for me to sort them, that I could totally understand if she'd rather not. She said yes! I was really surprised.

    I think when I go back I'm going to bring her some little gift as a thank you. She has been super nice for letting me do this.

    @Brickarmor If it makes you feel any better, there was one spot in the tub where a cat had clearly peed on the legos a while ago. >:P I still have to get the dragon pieces, though; hopefully they have not been similarly desecrated.

    This did, though. I was (am) feeling really stupid for blowing all my (wife's) money this summer, missing out on these crazy modular and SW sales folks properly gaga over now. So I got #2505 in a one-creased box for $44. It's no TB, but. Well, it's just not.

    Just picked up #6083 Knight's Tournament off ebay for $15.98 shipped! Complete, box, instructions and all! Nice picture showed the minifigures all have nice print yet, all the gold on them and all! Right place, right time as it had just been listed with the buy it now.

    Hauled my first bulk of Lego off of CL for $250. Included 30lbs of manuals, boxes, partially built sets, and a 60lb bulk box with Megabloks mixed in. Notable sets include the latest MTT, Jabba's Sail, and Republic Gunship.

    I started sorting through everything and just became frustrated (thought it was going to be fun). Besides having to clean old sets caked with dirt, I have no room or system/storage to sort everything. After piecing the Republic Gunship and parts for the chibi at-at moc, I'm dumping the rest.

    @ lulwut totally understand your feeling on that. I am no longer purchasing Lego tubs from Craiglist unless they are complete sets. The work in cleaning and sorting is really backbreaking :-)

    Got a few #21102 Minecraft sets last week for $31.45, I thought that was a steal considering they go for ~$85+ on Ebay and around $100 on Amazon

    Hate those 'send me your offer' ads. One guy got all hurt because I sent him an offer that didn't match his '$15/lb as seen on ebay star wars bulk lot'.

    I've bought 2 separate 35Lb bulk lots off local classifieds this summer. Both I paid just under $5/lb. I thoroughly enjoy these bulk lots. In both cases I was able to recover enough sets to sell and recoup my money. The first lot I bought was from a guy who was also selling a bunch of complete Star Wars sets without minifigures. Since there wasn't any figures, I didn't buy the star wars sets, I just bought the 50lbs of lego with Mega blocks mixed in that he had for sale. Since there was Mega Blocks mixed in, I low balled him and he took it, $100 for 50lbs. When I got home I found a pencil case full of about 30 first gen Star Wars minifigures that he was missing. And after sorting it I ended up with a complete 9v train setup, 35lbs of lego and other Misc sets. Needless to say that was an awesome score.

    The last bulk lot I bought was from a guy about 10 years older than me so the sets predated what I grew up with. I'm falling in love with the old space series as I rebuild this lot. It was a bunch of space, pirates, and castle. So much fun.

    It's just so time consuming. I've spent about 12 hours so far sorting this last 35lb lot. I now have all the parts cleaned and sorted in a manner that they can be merged into my current collection. But before I do that, I'm going to build all the sets that I want to sell or display. Building will hopefully be a lot quicker now that the parts are sorted.

    no i didn't but they said they will honor it when i go back this coming sunday. granted it will next weeks minifigs but at least i will get a set.
