^Are you pretty confident they'll adjust the price? When will you know?
  • PlasticDotsPlasticDots Member Posts: 80
I tried to get the 10188, 10212 and 10221 but the buy 2 get 1 free doesn't apply it's only for certain sets

Right now it is what it is.. basically none of the sought after sets are on sale.Should not be surprised TRU would do something like this. Also I would not be surprised for TRU to 'correct a glitch' and allow these sets to go for the sale, but then again who knows.
I'm starting to think this was a slight toward those who get on to sales early for the choice sets.
Get people up at an ungodly hour and then not have those sets on sale.

I felt so prepared for this sale. I have never written out and placed things in my cart before a sale. I was organized to say the least. I was up until 1:30 a.m. and I wore out. So, I set my alarm for every 90 min. to check. This is honestly the most neurotic I have been for a sale, but hey Christmas is coming plus I sell on Ebay and this is a great sale. What a bummer!! I did wipe out some items on my kids Christmas list, but it was not worth all of my effort. I guess it is part of the process. I do remember that last year there were several great sales before Christmas. It kinda felt like when you go to a garage sale early and somebody came after they saw the ad and purchased everything days before it started. Hopefully.....they will change it during the week.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,838
Well I will say this, after seeing as many items that are still available on the site as part of the B2G1 Free there are two trains of thought:
    1) that the items that are on sale (including LoTR and heroes) really are not that sought after.
    2) TRU learned from past mistakes and has more of a stock when holding sales (since this was the first really big BOGO type sale I have seen from TRU in sometime)

    Or a bit of both.

They boosted the prices back up; glad I got my train order in beforehand.
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
^Yikes, you are right. Looks like almost everything has been jacked up again. Glad I got a few orders in early in the morning when the prices were still rrp.
  • DadsAFOLDadsAFOL Member Posts: 617
I think this is one of the better sales at TRU in recent years. Its unclear if they forgot to reset the prices to their marked up levels due to the "sale" that ended on Saturday, or if that was intentional. Either way, it ended up being true 33% off RRP for many sets. In years past when they had BOGOHO sales before they had crazy markups, the 25% off RRP that created was a big deal. And they almost always excluded SW. So yes, its disappointing that the big boys were excluded with less than accurate advertising, but there are still some fantastic deals with free shipping on top.

And as a bonus, their site didn't crash while trying to shop.
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
I agree as well. While the big sets were excluded (for now) it's a great opportunity (even better in the morning) to pick up smaller sets at a very good price. I picked up some smaller SW sets and some road plates. Couldn't bring myself to buy any at the $15 price mark but at $10, ring me up.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258

BP is not a bad deal here. Would love to pick up a Vampyre Castle too

Correction: was a not bad deal. In the two hours since I posted, the prices have indeed been jacked back up to TRU rates.

  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,838
Well the other good thing is the free shipping (up to 20 dollars) over 49 instead of 99... does not help you get really small sets, but it allows you to get some of the medium sets that you could not otherwise get.
  • momof2boys99momof2boys99 Member Posts: 322
^ That is true...it was not all bad. As I said I did get things for my kids. I am very happy that I did get them before the prices went back up. It seems Toys R Us always has that short window in between sales with the extra mark downs.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Yup, if you were early enough and shopped around there were some good deals to be had. Got 2 Hoth Echo bases and 1 Palpatine's Arrest (priced at $90 ea) before the prices were changed, so I got a true 33% off 3 SW sets and one of them a just out set. What with the different prices for sets, the exclusions on top of more exclusions, the qty limits, and the TRU mark up on most sets it was tough to find what I consider good deals. I did go to my local store and got 3 of the #3677. A set that is a TRU exclusive and not marked up above retail. The on-line limit is 2 but they had 3 in my store.

My initial plan was to get 3 of the Technic remote controlled 4X4's and/or a mix of those and the Unimog, but Technic is excluded. And, even if that theme were not excluded it looks like those 2 sets would have been.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
@cloaked7 Did you see any sets at RRP worth looking at? I was planning on going by but I get the feeling they will still be TRU pricing as I saw earlier in the week.

I went too my store and walked out with only the new SW planet sets. 24 after tas sisnt bad for the set of three, everything else is so marked up its not worth it. JP and MAlevlance at 149, so 3 would only be 100 each, only a dollar or two cheaper then they have been on Amazon for the past two weeks.
  • AmberylAmberyl Member Posts: 193
FYI, Toys R Us managed to lose one of my orders. I have a confirmation email, and my PayPal account was deducted, but I never got a ready-to-pickup email, and the store tells me that they never received the order. (It is an order where my two paid-for items are store pick-up and the free one had to be shipped.)
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ I picked up a Falcon, JP, and Malevolence this morning while they were still marked down. Came to $86.91 each.

I wish I could have shared my 10% code. It took my forever to get it. The customer service person was...well...not so bright. She was giving me the code and didn't tell me it was case sensitive. I had her repeat it again. Then I repeated it back to her and I missed a few. D, C, Z, V's all sounded the same to me over the phone with background noise. I then go...OK...D in dog? No V? I told her to tell me what word. She says I can't think of a word that starts with V. Are you serious???

  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
It was like pulling teeth, but I hung in there and got $36 off my purchase.

^ I'm seeing reports online that if you call in, you can get anywhere from 15% off the big sets (DS and SSD) all the way up to B2G1.

I honestly don't want more of them and don't care to subject myself to the useless CSR reps that TRU employs, so I won't bother, but if anyone wants to give it a go...

You will have to get transferred to "special relations" after the first rep says no of course, and probably take an hour on hold...
  • doriansdaddoriansdad Member Posts: 1,337
Picked up 9 Hogwarts Castle for $87 each. Picked them up at my local store....won't deal with crushed merchandise anymore. Should be a nice seller after this year....don't see TLG producing it ever again.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
I agree. I'm crossing my fingers about my boxes.

If they included the Modular Buildings in the "sale" 3 would have only cost $99.99 a piece. I don't even see Lego discounting them that much. I see only 119.99 for FB, Pet Shop and GE and $159.99 for Town Hall. I think Amazon will counter with
he same prices, but for those who don't wish to support their local government, it will be a better deal ;)
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ I haven't had one crushed box of all the stuff I've ordered so my fingers are crossed as well that the 6 things I ordered come in ok.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
@gmpirate the TRU prices at the store were the usual marked up prices. The sale prices were only available on line until about 1pm EST. It worked out for me. I don't need to be spending a lot on LEGOS right now.

I finally bought the 3 MVRs that have been in my TRU since I started going to TRU. I watched them go from main aisle to back end cap to the bottom of one of those obnoxious things in the middle of the aisle. Three nice copies for $170ish ain't bad. Got the only Lloyd left too, why not.

The family in front of me (two boys 6-10) got Lighthouse, The Mill, and AC Jet-copter thing, and I hope I'll be as happy as they were sometime again before I die. Always nice to see.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Speaking of Lloyd... there are 18 left in stock at Amazon.com at $9.99 as I type this... I'd buy 10 of them, but my two Amazon accounts haven't reset yet, so I guess they are all yours. :)

^ Thanks, looks like I was too late. At first I could only add 2 to my cart, but in the process of checking out they were removed. Then, when I checked inventory again they showed available at $9.99, but still won't let me process the order. As 'neat' as their checkout process is, it still needs some work.

Now Amazon shows them to be in stock on Sept 21st. I guess they'll have a lot then. I can wait 5 days.

Also, I could have bought some at TRU today, but they were priced $12.99 so I passed. That is a huge mark up on a $9.99 item. Maybe sometime I'll regret. We'll see.
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
Thanks @LegoFanTexas, I was able to order 3.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
RE: Lloyd DX: And... they are gone. On the search results page, they are $9.99, but when you click through it is up to a third party seller at $23.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^^^ Even at $12.99, I'd buy every one they had...

^^ You're very welcome, hope that helps you out...

^ Yep, they won't last long, even if they got 300 in, they'd be gone in a day. Amazing, isn't it? :)
  • momof2boys99momof2boys99 Member Posts: 322
^ Yes...there is a reason why ToysRUs did not include "Friends" and "Ninjago" with this sale. I was at Walmart the other day and not one "Friend" in the store....and yes I checked the girls section too.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
Wow. Jabbas Palace is now $149.00!!!!
  • Penkid11Penkid11 Member Posts: 788
    ^*GASP* $0.99 OFF! NO WAY!!! :P

I cry for people who fall for those $-stealers. I feel like I need to announce to the aisles that you can all get this Lego cheaper right across the street! (The Lego Store) It's too bad, they probably think the brand stores jack up the prices as well.
  • tk79tk79 Member Posts: 329
Managed to get some stuff on my wish list (vampire castle, helm's deep, etc) and some extras, not a bad deal for some select sets before the prices went back up. Thanks for the heads up @sidersdd

Not that I'm in to SW at all, but I'm confused...
    TRU has 9516 Jabba's Palace for $149
Brickset has the set listed at $119 retail
Lego Shop@Home has the set listed at $199

    What's going on here!?
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^ You're looking at LEGO S@H Australia, and Australian dollars.

On the US site, it's $119.

^lol, solves that, thanks. Long day....
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ And Amazon.com has sold it for about $100 even shipped on and off for the past month.

Amazing, TRU's "retail" price is over 20 cents a part, that is insane...

I'm surprised TLG doesn't take issue with this, it ultimately harms the LEGO image, making the toy appear overpriced compared to everything else.
  • sonsofscevasonsofsceva Member Posts: 542
We got the Batman Funhouse TRU exclusive, three of them at the $40 pricepoint (before it went back up), so less than $30 a piece in the end.

I think in a lot of retail situations the company may dictate what the retail store sells the product. I'm not sure.

I almost bit when Jabbas Palace was around $100 on Amazon, but I wanted to buy more than one copy, so this was a better deal. Plus, the extra 10%.

Again, I don't care about the tax because I pay it anyway.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ In the United States, it is generally against the law to tell a company what price they can sell products at. What they can control is the advertised price, which is what MAP is, minimum advertised price, they can't promote less than that, but they can sell less than that.

You'll see it on web sites that say, "add to cart to see price".

If I were TLG, I would consider telling TRU that while they are free to sell at any price they like, I'm also free to sell or not sell product to them, or to change the wholesale price they receive. That door swings both ways...

Perhaps TRU has enough volume and enough power to get away with it, but I think at the end of the day, it looks bad for TLG.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
Yeah, I guess that what I meant, but I didn't know how to put it. We sell hair products and they give us a suggested retail price and some rules how to sell the product. Anyway, it is bad enough that almost every time I'm in a Lego aisle I always hear "That's just too much money" in one form or another,so I can imagine it is worse in a TRU aisle.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Yep, when I tell family and friends what "normal" prices for Lego are, they are generally shocked... When I tell them what I get for retired sets, I usually get dead silence.

Even my wife just looks at the really expensive stuff and shakes her head. We make money with this, and she still thinks it is all nuts! :)

But she loves me and so it is all ok... :)
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
I watch Collection Intervention, Toy Hunter and all the storage and pawn shows and it is amazing what people pay for what we think is not valuable.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275

^ Yep, when I tell family and friends what "normal" prices for Lego are, they are generally shocked...

When I checked out at Walmart with the one $89 Helms Deep I was able to find the guy ringing me up said "wow thats a lot for one set" and then I think he was speechless after I told him that was clearance and it was normally $120.
