I have found that with Amazon they are getting better with keeping people limited. I'm sure there are those on this site that know of ways to circumvent that but it is nice for Amazon to realize it is a good deal and to try to let everyone find it and get in on it and not just the early birds.
I also have found that usually the restriction lasts until the sale ends, or maybe if their supply ends but they get more...
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ I find it takes about a week before I can order again.

In this specific case, that doesn't matter since I'm not sure I want more than 2 more Death Stars. I already have 15 of them, been buying them slowly over time, but I'll probably end up with 20 by the time it EOLs.

Where the limit is a shame was on the Lloyd spinners, only got 10 of those, would have loved to buy more.
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
I was just about to ask how long it takes to re-order on Amazon. Thanks LFT.

I have definitely noticed the limits more recently. I imagine of course one could have multiple accounts and make slightly modifications to your shipping address to get around it.

I agree the Lloyd spinners are a nice in-production profit right now. I almost bought some 6873 (Doc Ock) sets today at Wally - but skipped those. My assumption is those will be fully in stock everywhere else too.

Last year the Death Star was available from TRU during their B2G1 sale, before limits were imposed, so you could get them for $267+tax, but they went OOS within a few minutes of the sale.

    B2G1, is that "Buy 2 Get 1"? ;) scnr;
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
For most of us, B2G1 for large sets like DS, GE, FB - are just impossible to get. At least for me. They are gone soooooooo fast.
  • cbaker1974cbaker1974 Member Posts: 150
Yeah, buy 2 get 1 free. They usually only do this once per year to coincide with the Geoffrey the Giraffe birthday (last year was Sept 18-24th looking through old emails)...looks like I was wrong though, Star Wars and PotC were excluded.

the Lloyd spinners are not in production, they were a one and done and are now unavailable to order, so what came out was it. They will only go higher on the aftermarket. I did manage to buy 300 of them from one of my dealers the day they came out, but that was it, I have tried ordering more, nada, gone for good...

I do have multiple Amazon accounts, but it is a rare sale that is worth buying multiple for. I am tax exempt on only one account, so the theaters I have to pay tax on. I can file to get the tax back, but it is a pain in the neck, takes forever, and sometimes they just lose the paperwork.

I agree... And I watch them really closely too, but I have yet to catch one.

Last year the best bet for B2G1 free was in-store on medium value sets...I stockpiled a bunch of City Garage and some Kingdoms...this year the best play might be on the large Technic sets since some of those have been showing up in TRU stores (assuming they still do B2G1).
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Just noticed that the 8053 (Technic Crane) is doing quite well after EOL. Pretty much doubled in price in less than 1 year. That bodes well for the 8043 (Excavator). Plus the excavator builds 2 vehicles, it also can be a tracked loader. Both are very impressive vehicles. I think the Technic dozer set only built the dozer, didn't it? Regardless, it is doing very well after EOL. Another reason to like the excavator.

LFT.... I do agree with most of your comments but have you taken your eye off the ball here? They are OOS but you can order them at S@H. Shipping date back end of September

  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
8053 has done well price-wise, but it is a slow seller. I had about 40 of them, still have 28 left.

I didn't stock up on 8043 for that reason, it will go up in price, but sell slowly. The issue is that before someone pays $400 for 8043, they could buy a pair of the new 4x4 crawler which also is RC and PF.

The best retired Technic set was the blue Container Truck, it more than doubled and unlike 8053, it came with power functions right in the box. Of course, it also is a slow seller so I'll have those for awhile as well.

Te best part of 8052 is that it was 25% off on BF, so add the 10% off from that day, plus VIP points, plus the PAB box, and that was a good day.
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
Wow, didn't even realize there was an alternative build for the technic excavator. I saw it on the back but thought it was a different set.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
All the Technic sets are a 2 in 1 build, most you have to download the PDF instructions from Lego's web site, a pain but it is free. Some of the smaller sets come with the instructions in the box.

Quite frankly, some of the alt builds are terrible, but in a few cases, 8043 being one of them, the alt build is just as good as the main model.

@LegoFanTexas -Quick questions: Did you purchase the #8274 when it was available? What are your thoughts on that particular set?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
I did not get #8274 when it was out. I think it has had all or most of the rise it will ever get. I do have a single copy to build, someday... :) unless I sell it first...

Is the #10220 VW camper going to end this year?

I never paid attention to this set but when I went to look at the haunted house, it really caught my eye. Do I need to grab it right away or do I have some time?

As with any set, if you are buying for yourself, anytime is a good time to buy. The sooner the better, since it eliminates the risk of missing out. If, you are buying for future resale purposes, you most likely have a little while, at least a year.
  • SiESiE Member Posts: 238
I hope the campervan goes soon. Ive got a few of them =)
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,837
^--- Agreed, but the added part is of finding out what are the older sets that you want and get those first as those will most likely be the ones to be gone first. Unless it is a 6212 XWing of course.

Doubtful. I think even the 10187 Beetle was out for 2 years.. I think it will be around for some time, but if you want it go for it now so you do not have to ask this question in 6 months :-)
The HH on the other hand... who knows how long that will be around if it is part of Monster hunters
  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
Either the HH will be out for several months (minimum) or it will be re-released for a few years like the Winter Village sets. There's no way that Lego put the time and effort they did into the HH just to EOL it after Halloween. JMO.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
It is clearly marked as Monster Fighters in their current catalogue. I assume it will continue along with the other MF sets.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
Haunted House will not be seasonal. Like @CCC said, it's a Monster Fighters set. Winter Village sets are seasonal. Maybe the Halloween minifigure sets that are out might be seasonal though.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ What I hope is that this starts a new trend, having a "modular-sized" set along with each theme. Imagine a set like this for LotR, PotC, SW, etc.

Ok, we have UCS sets for SW, but imagine something more like Hoth Echo Base, but in a 2,500 part detailed set like HH.

    THAT I would buy! :)

Amazon ran out of stock for 10188 with the recent 10% off sale. Will be interesting to see if they restock it or not.
  • turtle1173turtle1173 Member Posts: 230
^ Interesting. Also interesting that it let me add 999 of the 10221 set, which are still at $359.
  • pvancil27pvancil27 Member Posts: 588
999 huh? Planning to build a life size Lego Deathstar are we?

Kinda sad the IS hasnt been marked down on Amazon. I still need one but just refuse to order from TRU.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Does Target still have 10212? S@H might also still take orders, aren't they just marked as backordered?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404

10221 still isn't selling all that well, even on sale, it is moving maybe 1 unit for every 10 units of 10188 that sold. That is just an estimate of course, but it is based on watching the sales rank for most of the past day.

10188 is perhaps "the" iconic set, it is a huge massive set, but also a great play set. Will be interesting to watch when it finally goes...

Probably, but they are gonna be reg price like Amazon. Was hoping they'd match the 10% off on it too.

  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Interesting, Amazon got it back in stock, but created a new listing for it.

The old listing that has been up for 2 years is here:
    http://www.amazon.com/Lego-Star-Imperial-Shuttle-10212/dp/B0041I0N9A/

    The new listing is here:
    http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Star-Imperial-Shuttle-10212/dp/B00883VGJK/

You can see the product reviews and history on the old listing (including 105 "likes"), the new listing doesn't have a single review and only 1 "like".

Weird that they made a whole new listing for it, I wonder if the UPC changed or something else happened.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
You will get 10% off on BF, assuming it is still in stock.
  • pvancil27pvancil27 Member Posts: 588

This is a set worth paying full price for, if need be... It is really very impressive and a great build. :)

Yea, its just the whole money is tight thing. Its why I didnt get it during the MAy the 5th sale, just couldnt afford it.
  • JT32JT32 Member Posts: 124
8043 is marked down to around £100 if bought from amazon.es and shipped to the UK. I agree it might be a bit of a slow burner but I still couldn't resist at such a great price.

Same with 10212, I stocked up a couple of weeks ago when it went down to £140 (inc shipping) from amazon.it . It's a brilliant set and well worth full RRP if it's going into your own collection. Fingers crossed it'll do well in the aftermarket.

I do see S@H out of stock, but expected ship date 29 Sep 2012 and still can order now. Amazon had in stock multiple times yesterday and this morning. I grabbed few from Amazon but I'm bit nervous whether it will not perform well later after Lloyd becomes available everywhere. Will it eventually go up over $20 (current) after EOLed? I'm curious about other spinner sets. Are they going to go up like Lloyd does now? Just would like to hear what you guys think. Thanks.

They go for about 2 x RRP in toysrus (usual mark up!)

^^ interesting. I wonder if it's just a short term spike.

I would imagine once Ninjago goes, then there will not be so much interest in them. Without current advertising and the TV show, will they still be popular? But for this Xmas they may do well if it is the one that the kids want.
  • RennyRenny Member Posts: 1,145
Kids attention spans are short nowadays. Once Ninjago is no longer being aired, the interest in the sets will plummet. They will move onto the next big thing.
  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
^I tend to agree. I have never seen what is so great about Ninjago.
  • Penkid11Penkid11 Member Posts: 788
Come Black Friday, Lloyd will no longer be available. And around that time the second season will still be replaying and will be available on DVD. Kids still won't be over "I wanna be a Ninja" syndrome. That is until they get into LoC.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258

^See that? You know it's official when we've acronymized it! So next year when we are discussing LoC can we abbreviate Ninjago? N1 for red box, N2 for green box...? Or is LoC basically N3? The Classified rumors seem to support such, and it would certainly make a lot of people go "Ooohhh, okay, that's what you meant by 'discontinuing' Ninjago. Now I get it!"

Interesting, they were marked as sold out last week. So either they found more, or are getting another shipment, or TLG changed their mind and decided to make another production run.

Or perhaps my source was wrong. :) I reserve the right to be wrong sometimes. ;)

Amazon did get stock yesterday, I picked up 10 more from them just before they ran out.

Some spinners go up, others do not. Look at 2174 and 2175, I can still buy those in bulk for about $5 each by the thousands, they were so over produced it is scary.

Lloyd might or might not hold value, depends on what else comes out. If the only other set he is EVER available in is the big green dragon, he should do well since not everyone wants or can afford that set. But if he comes out in a new battle pack or starter pack, all bets are off.
  • kim43235kim43235 Member Posts: 165
^ I see. I didn't know Epic dragon is the only set that has Lloyd in it other than spinner set. No wonder it's selling well. Are we expecting new line of Ninjago pretty soon? I guess it will perform well until then. It's hard to believe that no new set have Lloyd in it.
