    @bigjsd which Riverside store?
  • thorniethornie Member Posts: 245
I downloaded that Walmart app for my iPad, made a list of the clearance LEGO I was looking to buy (Helm's Deep, Black Pearl, QAR) and queried the app for which stores a.) had them on sale and b.) had them in stock. It pointed to me to a few stores in the NJ area (I live in NYC). I went to all 4 stores that were in reasonable driving distance from me and finally scored a Helm's Deep and a Black Pearl... at the one store the app told had NO stock of either. Go figure.

Picked up helms' deep for $89 at my walmart, Moria for $55, as well as olivia's house for $13. I am having trouble deciding if I should open what's now my 2nd helms deep (to enlarge my first one!) or hold onto it for resale. what do you guys think?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^Maybe open to sell the duplicate figs and bring down your cost to under $50 for expansion of your Helm's deep. That is an exceptional deal on Olivia's House, gratz on that find!
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
^ second that. Can't imagine LotR going EOL anytime soon. If it does, a lot of people will miss this boat.

Olivia's house for $13?!!? Seriously? I've never seen Walmart hit 80% off lego. That's the best find ever.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
Pretty sure that would be Olivia's TREE House.

    If not, best deal ever!
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 363
Agreed, I too have gotten Olivia's TREE house for $13, but her other house was $49.

I wonder if, in the coming months, Wal-Mart will start to raise their prices over MSRP as Target has done. If so, these deals may seem even better down the road.

Yep, I had no luck at the DC area Walmarts either. Glad you enjoyed Brickfair...I drove out there, saw the line that literally wrapped around the entire Expo Center, and decided that I would leave Brickfair to the KFOLs and their parents. Couldn't bear to make my wife wait on that line....

I considered skipping it when I saw that line, but it actually moved very quickly for us... I don't think we waited more than 10-15 min to get in. Plus, I would have had a real whiny 8 year old on my hands had we turned around & gone home ;-)

Thanks for the heads up on this move, now I know I'm not missing out on any deals that I was hoping to score in my area.

I did a couple walmart in the Denver area, didn't find any of those deals but a #4444 Police Dog Van $10 off at $25.00 (in Aurora on Exposition Ave)

Somehow the Walmarts around my area are just not clearing any of the items! The shelves are full and its an entire aisle. Not a single item is discounted...

I finally hit pay dirt when I decided to venture to the other part of town. They had all the POTC sets marked down and most importantly I found the POTC BP at $69. Can't wait to build it this weekend. Some city and a couple of SW sets were also discounted. Will be checking again in a week's time to see whether they going to do steeper discounts on the other sets.

Not so sure this app is dependable in store either. I had the store I was in selected and then started scanning barcodes. Not knowing, my son used the store's scanner. Good thing because the "app" scanned the BP at $100 while it rang up $69 in the store.

I use the app for store availability. If the the status of an item is Limited, it is more likely to be on clearance. Since the clearance price can vary by store, the price on the app is the online price.

It might just be a funny way the programming is rigged but when I looked it up by adding it to my list the set would show up at the clearance price. I double checked with some Friends and Star Wars sets to see how accurate it since I had already confirmed them in store and purchased them and it seemed fairly reliable. I imagine it's an imperfect system, but it definitely helps justify a toy run.

So I go to Wal-Mart today and what do I see in the Lego section? Empty display of series 4. Not 1 pack left. Haven't been there in about a month, looks like they may have cleaned out the storeroom. Has anyone else had any such luck?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
I was at Walmart today, they didn't have any CMFs, of any series...

They did have almost everything else, but nothing interesting was on sale. A few PotC sets, but even the ships were full price.

    Grr..

Get this, my mother is an assistant manager at a Walmart and I never get anything. She always looks, but never finds anything. All these Helms Deep for $89, Black Pearls and QAR's deeply discounted...nothing.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
^ Honestly, the Walmart 30% off deals aren't that great. Helms Deep was easily had a couple of months back from B&N for the same price and Amazon has had it for under $99. Amazon currently has the Black Pearl for almost 20% off. When you figure in gas money and time it really isn't worth it... well except for the thrill of the hunt.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,393
I would have asked if I could have the empty display box.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
I agree that 30% off isn't really that exciting...

If these were killer sets, say Imperial Shuttles, I'd be driving around town...

But these sets are this price from time to time online without hunting...

What is even more strange is that I bought a number of BP and QAR from the very same Walmart as today, a few weeks ago, for 30% off, now they are restocked and back to full price.

They have restocked a lot of older sets, they have most of the AC line back, among other things...
  • BanditBandit Member Posts: 889
Agree -- 30% is great to pickup 1 of and add to my personal collection if needed, but generally not to stock up on to resell...
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
The strangest things happen at Walmart. I try not to go in there unless I have to...lol. Seriously, I'm always afraid that I'm going to get screwed buying Lego at Walmart. I never will know if someone opened the box and resealed it. I'm sure it's easy to do.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
By me they had 25-30% off a lot of sets, but Helm's Deep is the only one I picked up for $89. No Turbo Tanks in stock, and Friends was full price.

I posted 27 photos of the stock they had on my blog.

    Thanks!

^ That happened to me. My wife picked up a Batman Lego set on clearance. I knew it had been opened and returned. Turned out to contain no pieces from the original set. Instead it was a bunch of misc. pieces including megablocks. I did see a Ninjago ice dragon head piece but I decided to just return everything.
  • sadowsk1sadowsk1 Member Posts: 124
I like the 30% off discounts. To be honest it's hard to bank on finding anything once the clearances hit at 50% and it's better than waiting out a different sale where I would have to buy multiples to max out the savings. As always I say buy now and start the clock for 90 day return policy and see if buyers remorse sets in or a better deal comes along.
  • GIR3691GIR3691 Member Posts: 674
After finding a 4867 Hogwarts and a 4194 Whitecap Bay for $15 each, I went back yesterday and scanned some items. All I found on clearance was 30% off The AC Mothership and small ADU vehicle, and the Creator Log Cabin.

I'll hold out in case the prices drop. No clearance prices were marked.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
There's nothing wrong with 30% off. Any discount, especially on a set that you want is a good thing. It's just that driving around looking to save a few bucks isn't the best way to utilize one's time. Of course finding the "deal" makes it all seem worth it.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
I'll buy a lot at 30%, even more at 50%, but I still buy at 20%. I learned the hard way that if you wait, you might miss out completely.

It's a beautiful set... you won't be disappointed.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
I haven't seen series 4. As for the sale itself....I think it simply depends. I found plenty at 30%, but is it stuff I want? I don't resell. We have all the Alien Conquest. My son has no interest in Star Wars. I did buy a Friends bday present for my niece. I did pick-up several of the space line. It isn't necessarily the best deal, but I do think this is a set he would enjoy. If the items were 50%, there are a few items I would consider, but even then, I don't know that I would purchase them.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
I've bought multiple sets from WM that look like they've been opened. I always take them to the customer service counter and ask them if I can open them to check that it looks complete and not filled with junk before buying and they've let me so far.

Can anyone using the Walmart app tell me how it works exactly?
I downloaded one for my Android phone which I assume is the same, but when I try to look up Rollback items I only seem to be getting those online multi pack deals.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
Discipline is a terrible thing... But it helps that circumstances made my "choice" inevitable. Scored a BP for a screaming $40, but had to leave a TON of SW (no MF, but the tag was there for $99), City, Dino, and LotR on the shelf (eek!) because we are on the way home from the beach and the car is p a c k e d.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^^ the android app does not support all the features that the iphone app does. Android version doesnt have individual store pricing.
  • intromissionintromission Member Posts: 197
Bummer. So can anyone here explain why I had come across a Trex Hunter for $68. Clearanced from $69.99? The Walmart employees I asked just laughed and said, "That's Walmart for you" or something to that effect. I'll keep my eye on it but what gives?

Found these over at the lower income part of town Walmart yesterday (SoCal):

    Millennium falcon $99
    City police station $69
    City fire station $54
    Cars2 oil rig $35

Most of the cars and all of the friends sets were 30% off, and a few other star wars sets as well.

The super Walmart on the nicer side of town has nothing much on sale, but I did find HP and the cars v8 cafe for 30% off there a couple of months ago.

Between the cars, city, and friends stuff, I will have some very happy kids come Christmas and their birthdays in the spring (and possibly next Christmas, depending on who gets th city ones).

Which Wal Mart? If close I might swing by for a fire station.

Torrance had a bunch at 30% off. The $30 Dino set, City Police dog van, Car and camper are what I remember.
  • herekittykittyherekittykitty Member Posts: 122
^^ if you're near Torrance then it's not close at all - San Diego area. If someone wants to know exact store just pm me. :)

They only had the one MF, but they had more of all the others. I think one dino set was on sale, too, and some aliens... Oh and Mines of Moria. I was surprised by that one.

I wish some of the $20 city sets had been on sale, my daughter likes those and they're a good size for her (6yo) to do in an afternoon or two.

Local Walmart had several sets in the clearance section with red tags that gave a 2 cent discount. At least the main aisle had a couple of discounted items.
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
One of my local Walmarts had almost everything mention above at 30% off - SW, Dino, Creator (Cool cruiser, Light House etc), POTC, Avengers, DC Super hero, Cars, LOTR. While looking over the vast selection of options, a gentlemen with a Walmart "Dept Mgr" name tagged asked if I needed some help. I ask if I buy a bunch of Lego's could I get an addtional discount? He said how does 10% sound? Needles to says I bought a bunch of stuff at 40% off. I now have his name and work hours and he was open to future "bulk buying" discounts! (Maybe this should go in the "brag" thread.)
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
Wow @ecmo47! Never thought to ask for a bulk discount at a big box store, though I have heard of this in the past (years ago.) How much did you have to buy to qualify for the 10%?

I should also mention that the best discount I saw at this sale was Duplo, a couple sets were 33 - 40% off.
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
We didn't really discuss a set amout but I'm sure he would have given me the 10% just on the 5xHelms Deep I was looking at. In the end, I ended up spending $900, which if you ever wondered, was 1 shopping cart full of Legos or 18 sets.

Great success! Scored a V-wing for $7.50, sith infiltrator for $25, and a black pearl for $69. Win! Win! Win! Although, I did have to drive around to 3 different walmarts to find em
  • SquareSideSquareSide Member Posts: 170
Way good deals on the V-wing and infiltrator! Grats!^^
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
@ecmo47 Thanks for the details. I may just try that next time!

I saw the pod racers for $45 but decided to pass

Anyone in the San Diego area know of a Walmart with discounted quinjets?
