Only 2 were left, I just bought 1 of them, so 1 left for someone who wants it at retail price.

    Grabbed one. Thanks!

    You bet...

This set is going to do REALLY well... Even when Amazon didn't stock it, it was priced at $65+ and selling multiple copies a day.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, the box is verrrrry small. :o)

Yes, but there are a lot of mineraft fans who don't care.

The trick will be to bring those fans into the Lego fold...

I started playing Minecraft after this set was released and I love it! It is especially fun when you have buddies to play with online.

Have yet to get this set. But I can't justify paying $40 for 1x1 plates.

Yes, this has been coming in and out of stock at amazon for about a month now. They get some every few days and then sell out in an hour or two.

It does sell fast. Back at the height of the 'Minecraft EOL Scare of 2012', I sold my 5 for $150 each there within 2 days. I've watched the movement since, and yeah it still really moves, albeit not at $150 anymore. :)

I only see them going for about 30-35 over retail on EBay now. I will NEVER buy this set.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
    Yes, they ran out...

At $75, it'll net about $58 for the seller after fees, and that does't count the cost to ship it in, nor the risk that the customer returns it opened once they figure out they overpaid.

That is one of the risks of selling on Amazon, the customer can return it for any reason or no reason.

So there is money to be made, if you are ok with that risk.

^ how often have you had MISB sets returned with amazon? And were they opened or damaged? I've never had anything returned in all the sales I've done there...
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
I've never had anyone break into my home, but I've read it happens :0

Not often, but it does happen. Just last week had a MISB #6208 B-Wing returned, the contents were still new, but the retail box was destroyed.

That is always sad to see.

^ that stinks. Guess I've just been lucky so far...

All the better for storage. I wish other Lego sets followed suit. So long as the box is big enough to contain all the pieces without sticking them together, then it is big enough.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Yea, I agree with that, most of the Lego boxes are too big for what is in them, it would be much better for everyone, the planet, Lego, the customer, stores, if the boxes were sized for the contents.

For everyone, but not for LEGO ;)

Wow. It's gone already. I wonder how many of these sales are attributed to resellers. I mean, does Amazon need to implement a 2 per user limit? Jeez.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Amazon actually has a 1 per shipping on this specific item.

Multiple shipping addresses would get around that, to a point, but to buy 1 at a time?

And you can't just make order after order, like TRU lets you do, Amazon lets you order about once a week on restricted items like Lego.
  • thorniethornie Member Posts: 245
^ Thanks for clearing that up. So this set is really just that darn popular huh?

Yep, even at double RRP, it has remained in the top 5 selling Lego sets on Amazon for a week straight.

    Amazing...

It is available right now, I just ordered one (max 1 per customer...)

Just ordered 1. Sadly 1 per customer.

Why are they selling stock like this? To keep the customer on the site refreshing the pages every 5 minutes?

Foil resellers? A buyer bought 40+ of these when TRU had them on ebay.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
No, I think they are getting a few in here and there. This set was probably actually shipped via DHL from Denmark, rather than coming over in containers the way normal Lego does.

As they check in each shipment, they add them to inventory, each box probably has 20 or 30 sets per box, so they get checked in that way.

It isn't to foil resellers, Amazon only allows 1 set per shipping address anyway.
  • thorniethornie Member Posts: 245
Got one! Not sure I'm going to open it and build it just yet. I'm no reseller, but I might hold on to this one for a year or so. I'm interested to see how this one plays out.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
@thornie - I'm pretty much in the same boat, but I don't think I'll be holding on to it that long. If supply at RRP is non-existent at Christmas time I imagine this will get up there pretty quick.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ You would think TLG would be pumping these out in production. The show on Ultimate Factories on Lego made a big deal about the fact that their just in time production could shift production to in-demand sets in just 10 days based on what was selling.

This is not a complex set with fancy custom parts, I'd think they could be cranking these out by now, if they aren't producing at least 100,000 for Christmas, they are nuts, in my personal opinion. A quarter of a million is not out of the question either.
  • LegobrandonCPLegobrandonCP Member Posts: 1,917
Thank LFT, I didn't know about how LEGO is shipping these sets out to Amazon.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Keep in mind that I'm just guessing on that. They add items to sellable inventory as their warehouses check them in. If they are getting in an entire container load of stuff from overseas, as they would with a normal shipment of Lego, then it would all appear faster since the container would have a fixed shipping manifest attached to it, along with an order that Amazon placed with TLG directly, so while they need to inventory the entire container as they check it in, it should all show up at once when they click "done" on the checkin.

However, if they rushed over a few hundred sets via DHL, then they would show up in spurts as each shipping box is checked in to the system.

Keep in mind that thousands and thousands of boxes show up to Amazon's warehouses every day, and they do have multiple warehouses. Another issue is Amazon may be getting these shipped to multiple warehouses, so shipments will be checked in at different times of day, so when you see 30 show up in inventory, that might be the Tennessee warehouse checking in a box. Then a few hours later, another 30 show up in Arizona, so those show up. Normally you'd never notice, but Amazon is selling out of these so fast, you see them go in and out of stock in a single day.

You all think this is crazy? Wait until the Portal sets arrive... I would put money on that one outselling this one 10 to 1...

Watch that for fun... That is the Amazon.co.uk warehouse, or *one* of them anyway, it alone is 500,000 square feet and at peak load last year, a delivery truck was leaving the warehouse full of shipments once every 3 minutes.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6H7nfHjHtY

Another one, from a few years ago, the quality isn't as good, but it shows better just how much *stuff* is in the Amazon warehouses.

Fun fact... Everything, and they do mean EVERYTHING is stored at complete random within the warehouse. DVDs are not all together, Lego is not all together, everything is just put *somewhere*. The computer is supposed to know where it all is, and when orders are placed, a route is given the guy with the handheld scanner to pickup items in a logical order for multiple orders to reduce walking time for the order pickers.

At any one time, over 1.5 BILLION items are stored in Amazon's warehouses, all stored randomly...

Yea, nuts huh? :) But it seems to work...

One more video, this one interesting because it shows the items next to each other on the shelf and a bit more detail on the actual picking and ordering process.

^ I agree 100%. The demand for the Portal set is going to be enormous.

And how are we certain Portal is going to be a set? :) I heave't really been following up with Cuusoo lately, so unsure of the recent news.
  • LegobrandonCPLegobrandonCP Member Posts: 1,917
I love having an insight on warehouses and postal facilities. I have always found them interesting. I think it would be quite fun being a "picker". Going through hundreds of thousands of products.

If Portal doesn't get turned into Lego, then TLG management has gone off the deep end. :)

Either that, or they run into licencing problems... But given that Valve seems to be a reasonably run company and that they don't currently have a ton of Portal licence deals, you'd think they would be happy to have a deal. It is free money and free advertising after all...

Portal actually is given free to teachers for use in the classroom, Valve has turned it into a teaching tool for problem solving and physics. Add to that the millions and millions of copies sold (I've read as many as 50 million copies sold), and you have an audience much larger than Minecraft.

Plus, one more thing... Portal reached 10,000 supporters in 2 weeks. That is crazy, far, far faster than anything else on Cuusoo, it went so fast that Lego never even posted a 1,000 comment "reply", by the time they had a chance, it hit 5,000 supporters.

That SCREAMS "make me into Lego", if anything ever did...
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
BTW, Minecraft is back in stock at Amazon, 53 copies left... :)

Who knew video games can be in school now? Although I know nothing about the game itself, the concept art on the Cuusso page is quite interesting. But I can't make a decision on whether or not I'll purchase until official pics come it.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
Portal is a physics driven puzzle game. I can easily see the educational benefits of using it as a teaching aid. It probably has 10x the popularity of Minecraft.

Portal is a wonderful game that engages your brain and isn't focused on how many things you can kill. A nice change from the standard "blow everything up" type games.

This is a trailer for Portal 2

Yea, this should probably be split into "Lego Portal Cuusoo Information". :)

Yup, portal is a great game. I played both Portal in The Orange Box and Portal 2. The puzzles are great. Portal 2 has a 2 player mode which is a lot of fun, and solving the puzzles with a partner is great. I do Big Brother Big Sister and myself and my 'Little' play Portal 2 together, he's 11. The game engages him, so I can see it being used in schools. He likes the game a lot. Problem solving is a great for youngsters to learn. The Western Town and Portal are the 2 Cuusso's I am the most excited about.

The Portal short clip movie was great. A full length Portal movie? Hummm...

Also, snagged a Minecraft on amazon late last night. Thanks for posting that they were available. Getting one for retail and tax free is great!

After watching that short movie, yes, I think a full Portal movie would be amazing! And the girl they used, talk about ripped... Did you see the muscles on her?

Anyone know if the 1 per customer is a lifetime limit, daily limit, or?

It is generally a weekly limit. I haven't timed it exactly, but I find I have to wait about a week to order the same Lego set again.
