Got my 3 favorite from CMF8!

Here some pics to show how they stack up to similar figs :)

    Glad you liked them!

    Some nice pictures here

Looks like the Bavarian 'Boy' comes with a spare plume. Though Santa's hat still looks ridiculously big.

Should have made him fat... :D

The series 8 minifigures star in a very silly video:

This is a sequel to the Series 7 video which I cannot find at the moment. :-)

I remember seeing the series 6 (I think) video and couldn't work out if it was 'official' or not, as it didn't seem to come through official channels, but was equally bonkers. The facts are a nice touch, especially the diver one, I love to hear the reasons for designing certain elements etc.

And yes, now I want them ALL.

Here's the Series 6 video thread, which includes the Series 6 video.

I've got a pirate in hand at the moment. I'm not actually very impressed. The torso is OK and it's nice to have a pirate hat with gold on. The legs are easily replaced if you don't want every pirate to have a peg leg. But the face, it's awful. There is too much print on it, too many details. Black sideburns and facial hair, all OK. White teeth, OK. Orange eye socket and wrinkles, brown eye patch and a patch of gold / brown on the teeth. It's horrible. With that number of colours and details - to me - it doesn't even look like Lego. I think I am going to replace the head with a more classic styled one. It really isn't necessary to have new heads for every character, especially if it means doing this.

I really want the pirate, Shakespeare and conquistador figures. Even though the cheerleader is not new I want the figure as I missed the first one. As for the robot he's the weakest figure in this series.

I have a 5 year old that would highly argue that point. ;-)

Why is the robot the weakest? Because it is a copy? Like the cheerleader?

I've yet to see the S8 pirate 'in the flesh' @CCC. Is it really that bad? I like the look of it from pictures. He would be an ideal captain to replace one of my "fleshy" captains on either the Black Pearl or the QaR. Have you seen the conquistador properly yet?

Strange as it sounds, these are now my most wanted CMFs (not enough to pay the silly pre-launch prices). I will be acquiring a couple of full boxes of this series just for those figs and the Thespian (similar time period), and to get 1 complete set, so the rest will be out for trade.

I think what is beginning to seriously tick me off is the amount of times they're using shiney gold/silver effects on the packaging, box, instructions etc, but the pieces are always, ALWAYS, pearly yellow and grey.

I mean there is NO excuse for the blatant dishonesty this far down into the range (i could forgive the first few times it happened as an honest mistake, or last minute changes, but no more), and what's more annoying is instead of me being mega-chuffed they've done a deep sea diver, or a conquistador, (which i would've been), instead i'm royally peeved about it.
They KNOW what colour they're using, but insist on repeatedly photoshopping the parts to look like something else.

If that conquistador doesn't SHINE I'm going to.... to.... to... AAAAAAAAGH!

    HULK SMASH!

The pirate was high on my list too, which is why I swapped for him when I could get him. But, yes, I am disappointed with the head. I didn't realise how many colours there were from the press shots. Too many details, too many colours. I don't even know what the orange eye socket is meant to be. A completely bruised eye? That said, the head is easily replaced and he looks better for it.

I'm no purist when it comes to CMF and I regularly swap heads over so that people in my armies do not all have the same expressions, so its no major loss. I'll probably get a few more for the torsos and hats. Too many Lego pirates have peg legs, so I'll be dumping those too, replacing them with regular legs. And a few of the hooks too.

The other ones I have in hand are the bat - nice, although a little restricted in pose. And santa - again, a nice figure, although the printing is weak. Like most figures these days the white printing on a coloured torso is too thin, so comes out slightly pink here. The white eyebrows are thick and you cannot see yellow, so why is torso printing a problem?
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
The other good thing about the pirate torso is that there is no yellow skin. So the head and hand can be replaced with a flesh version if required to fit in with POTC or other licensed themes.

^ I predicted the Conquistador would be the most popular, but going by the people I was with at the AFOL shopping hour it could well be the Thespian.

I think renaissance type characters have been on a lot of peoples 'want' list for a while, especially with the new ruff piece. And for the lack of any obvious army builder (eg warrior type) I could see certain figs being popular mainly for new parts.

I don't know. Haven't bought any Series 8 yet. I'm waiting for a sale combined with coupon kind-of-deal. Did get a Playmobil Series 3 Princess on an impulse buy for my girls. I know this is sacrilegious to say, but those collectable figs are really well done! The amount of accessories -umbrella, headdress, neck ruff, ribbon for the back of the dress, hankerchief, and gems the girls can stick on themselves- I mean, WOW! And for the same price as LEGO CMF, and twice the size -and it's made in Malta. Okay, I'll shut up now.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
^ I'll whisper this, but the Playmobil advent calendars are much better value too.
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 3,944
^Before we get snipered, I'll chime in with "Sometimes I wish playmobil was lego. I'm not convinced by their claims that you can take them apart and swap parts (like lego...) but some of their collectable figure designs are definately more creative..."

Poland seems to get a lot of stuff accidently early! Wasn't there LOTR stuff on the shelves way before it should have been as well? Or some theme.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think of Barbecue Crisps every time they see series 8 packets?

might just be you. Whenever i see images of series 8, i begin thinking about "could this be the end of the series?". Black, at least in the USA not sure of other countries, is usually a color that's well known for death.

As far as if i get any, unless something changes, i'm gonna skip series 8 since i don't care for the figures.

I don't consider Playmobil a Lego competitor. You shouldn't feel bad for purchasing their version of the Lego CMF's.

FYI - I ordered a box of Series 8 from France for about $130 (including shipping). See link below if you are interested. Keep in mind that there is a tax included in the cost at the link below that is subtracted off at checkout (for those ordering from the USA anyway).

I had a hard time tracking down the diver until I found the last one yesterday. Unfortunately some people have resorted to slitting packages to find what they want.

There doesn't seem to be anywhere near the number of CMF series 8 trading threads in marketplace as there were for earlier series. Are people not buying as many this time round?

I haven't purchased any and probably won't until discounted (although I've already traded a few), since WHS no longer do their voucher and I wouldn't pay full price for them, not when you consider what earlier series have actually sold for. They are obviously exclusive to tesco for now too (in UK) but seem to be generally available at £1.99.

Another pain I have noticed with more and more figures is the continuation of printing from one part to another. For example, the actor

    image

His torso has to go with those legs. Lederhosen guy and Diver are similar, although not as bad. It's a shame, as you cannot swap parts as well with detail like that.

It also seems strange that they did not do it with Santa.

    image

In fact, he looks rather strange. His belt is up near his chest and he seems to be wearing a very short, almost bolero length, jacket. Isn't the belt meant to be round his waist, over the top of a longer coat?
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 3,944
Hadn't noticed that on the actor, for the sake of a couple of lines you wonder why they bother. But if it's an issue one can always swap the hips.

I've been trying to do a bit of trading but I think the Tescos monopoly has affected the general availability. So I'm sure that will pick up next month. That and the series being a bit lacklustre, and so soon after the team GB figs.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
Even if you swap the hips (or replace with completely blank legs) it still looks a bit odd, since the jacket part doesn't look right. It would have been so much better to just finish it level with the base of the torso (like santa).
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 3,944
The diver and lederhosen printing are arguably more intrinsic to the design (I think the diver's 'underbelt' thing is a nice touch). I think the lack of big belly on Santa is more of a fail than his slightly high waistband.
  • bricksanbricksan Member Posts: 566
Not only that I think a lot are buying in bulk now as well.
  • LegogeekLegogeek Member Posts: 714
I think Santa's "high belt" is supposed to indicate a big belly. Works for me, as any kind of body "add on" would look strange IMO.

What I do wish is they would have done, is given Santa black boots.

I'm not bothered by the printing on legs as I have no intention of swapping body parts on any of my CMF, and I don't think most kids will either.
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 3,944
^ I think you're right about the boots. I had wondered what was missing, and printing some boots would have made the belt look not so high (due to the current expanse of red). Guess it's a cost thing.

I wonder if they have a budget per figure (limit on new moulds, printing etc) or just per series/theme etc?

Apologies for the double post... but having scrolled back to page 1 I'd just like to pat myself on the back for my predictions...
"I'd love to see some old people (could re-use the sumo topknot but in grey) more fairytale characters (a new apple mould that fits ONTO a minifig hand would be great), a pirate with printed parrot (or any characters with new/different animals) a bride of Frankenstein with the classic tall zig zag hair, and a cowgirl (with wonder woman lasso?).

And I'll second your mountain climber (maybe with leiderhosen?), golfer, Greek philosopher (or another 'god' eg Zeus), old fashioned diver, roller derby or disco girl (could reuse the disco dude hair) and I'm sure an American football player must be on the designboards, but the actual football would be the problem. Oh and a warrior woman (Amazonian/Xena or Athena type)."
Now give me the others TLG. I am also available for design consultation.

If we are blowing our own trumpets ...

I'd like an old style city gent - black suit, bowler hat, umbrella - along the lines of the bankers from Mary Poppins.

I'd really like an Elizabethan era figure, either Elizabeth I, or Drake, or Raleigh. I want the ruff for a custom minifig.

    I'm still waiting for ...

And I'd like cow-suit man, with additional udders strapped on the front.

  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
As a crazed American Football fan. I would have loved a Lego football. I wouldn't care if if had a hole in it so you could pop it right on the hand. It would have to be flat on the bottom though probably. I can see that being a design challenge. Oh well.

There are so many awesome minifigures Lego can produce. I'm into period pieces and monsters.

Could be any number of factors. Maybe people are piggybacking on more topics or they are taking there business to other sites. People could be also be perfecting their bag feeling methods which means less excess. Maybe people are waiting for the beloved black friday or for sales to get a better price.

I'm skipping series 8 at least for the moment. There are a few figures that catch my eye but then i found series 6 at walmart so i was finally able to go for some figures i've been after.

There are no special discount deals yet for CMF8.
When they can be found at a discount they will be listed by more resellers.

Until then here is a small guide to feeling the figures and Dot patterns.
The Dots are a bit random on some of the packs I bought and may move slightly due to positioning on the production line.
The general configuration of Dots should be right.
As always feel first and then check Dots to confirm.

I have just received my pricelist for the new december/january releases and saw

Anyone have some more information about these?

Not sure if this would qualify as news or if anyone cares....but I found 2-3 boxes of Series 8 minifigures at a Walmart in Iowa today.
