They have really moved away from steep discounts so 50% sounds pretty crazy. Unless it is selling THAT bad. if it is true I will grab one instantly. The rest of that list sounds about right for the 10% sets even the the B-Wing doesn't pan out.
  • samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,492
50%? Sorry, but no... I can't see that. Even if it is a poor seller. Maybe 20%, but 50%? Not going to happen.
  • leego76leego76 Member Posts: 360
Realistically they'd probably clear similar numbers whether its 25-50% off so making it 50% doesn't make a lot of business sense! I think it will be discounted though as I just can't see it selling well.

Really hope r2 is discounted this year, that would be great, otherwise we're looking at the rather steep (even with discount) SSD again

50% is not unheard of from Lego, even if it is a bit unlikely for the B-wing. Only last year I picked up 2 UCS Jedi star fighters for half price £45! I can also remember (I'm going back a fair bit now) when they were selling of the Darth Maul Bust for £25... 75% off! I could not resist such a amazing deal.

Crumbs, I had no idea it got reduced so low. It will explain why the previous owner of mine was so happy to let his 'boxed and mint' go a couple of years ago for £40. Drove it round to my house for that too. :-)

The B-Wing has barely been out for 6 months. There is no way it gets discounted 50%. That is beyond ridiculous. SSD and R2 for 20% off (maybe up to 30% for SSD if they're trying to clear extra inventory for an end of year EOL) are likely. Maybe 20% off the B-Wing as well, but I wouldn't bet on it. More likely next year for that.

It isn't unheard of, but for the UCS B-wing it is.. I just can't see LEGO marking it off that much so soon in its life.

If it happens though, I am more than elated to be proven wrong :o)

IF the 50% rumor is true then they will be sold out in a blink of an eye (unless they limit it to 1 per household).

I also heard from a reliable source that TLG found a container full of UCS MF's and they will be on clearance for $200. So you better get in quick.

R2 and B-wing on my list for this year anything around the 20%+ range would be nice

Meh. I found a better deal on craigslist. And dude made it super-convenient and let me use paypal before I go pick it up. No messy cash transaction... ;)

Had a chat with a friend at the Lego store. He has confirmed as well as showed me the paperwork from Lego about hte 50% of of the B Wing for May the 4th. He stated this is because it has been the hardest Lego UCS to sell at that price and they are so back stocked that they cant get new sets in large quantities right now. Also on the list was just about everything else starwars at 10% minus the Deathstar, New X-wing and SDD. This does not mean though that they wont be on sale.
  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Member Posts: 4,027
@cynthilina Was this in a UK store?

At 50% off I'll take one!
  • AvengerDrAvengerDr Member Posts: 453
I guess not so many people played the X-Wing games. I love the B-Wing! If it is true I may have to rearrange my priorities: I was counting on a discounted SSD..
  • epyon396epyon396 Member Posts: 268
    I'm still suspicious...
    But! 50% off + $100 in points = free B-Wing for Mark.
It's is one of my favorite ships. It doesn't get nearly enough love.

  • woony2woony2 Member Posts: 336
Still a little sceptical about the b-wing, but it's not totally unheard of to have a discount that big, it's just so early in it's life. But, if it's not selling well and the x-wing is about to be released at the exact same price point most people are going to go with the x-wing. Lego may have realised this so are just trying to shift some units. Works fine for me as I'll get something else like the mini modulars at the AFOL shopping day tomorrow and then b-wing next week :).
  • doriansdaddoriansdad Member Posts: 1,337
Chalk me up for the B-Wing at 50% off plus Solo. Still sounds very sketchy to me...I was expecting 10-20% off SSD.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
You know, even at 50% off the B-Wing doesn't really interest me.

*IF* they have #10227 50% off my guess is they will sell out of them, and probably have a limit of 2. *IF* it happens it would be a great deal considering free shipping and a free Solo. We have a week to go, hopefully the details on the discounts will get firmed up.
  • BeavBeav Member Posts: 303
@cheshirecat Same here, just doesn't really interest me.
  • RomanticWarriorRomanticWarrior Member Posts: 248
thanks for the info, cynthilina. I would be really surprised if the SSD weren't on sale again. Maybe it's more than 10%. ;) That just seems like one that LEGO may have a hard time selling. Pure speculation. Not based on anything 'real'.

Nobody puts B-wing in the corner!

The poor set deserves better, it's a unique and cool ship.

^ I agree. If true, this doesn't bode well for the future of the SW UCS line, as far as I'm concerned anyway...
  • lulwutlulwut Member Posts: 417
50% off the B-Wing would be awesome. I have $400 in GC that I was planning on to use for the X-Wing and B-Wing. Now I can pick up another $100 set.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
^^ depends,on your point of view. It might mean they try to milk the UCS MF with an early rerelease!
  • BanditBandit Member Posts: 889
^ correct, that or other rehashes, which in my view would be terrible. ;)
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
The other side of the coin is that LEGO rethinks the UCS line and comes up with more appealing sets. Sets that people want and there is a demand for. I think R2-D2 did well, didn't it? And, people have mentioned other sets that would most likely do well. I'm not a SW expert by any means, but I gather that the B-Wing is an obscure vehicle that only had a few seconds footage. I think it's a cool looking set, but that only goes so far. Maybe LEGO learns from this.

I would agree, but it's hard not to notice that this year they went with the B-wing, which although it is one of my personal favorites, it is also one of the most obscure ships from the OT. Also it had the weird scale going against it, and no minifigs, etc. It was always uphill from its cradle for this poor, misunderstood ship.

Anyway, there are still some future UCS possibilities that could easily stoke up the fire in the line again like Slave I or the Cantina or (heaven forbid the clamor it would cause) a newer UCS version of the MF.

Is the sale gong to start Friday for brick and mortar LEGO brand stores?
  • CalvCalv Member Posts: 904
Had a flyer in the post today which says 3rd & 4th of May, both Shop at Home and Lego stores, so ....Yes, in the UK at least.
  • timinchicagotiminchicago Member Posts: 239
My VIP email states that the dates are May 4th and 5th--at least here in the US.
  • JBricks27JBricks27 Member Posts: 678

  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor Member Posts: 3,937

Everyone keeps saying they are hoping to see 20 to 30% off on the SSD. I wish they would switch it up to the Death Star this year. I would be more prone to pick up another Death Star than another SSD. If the 50% off on the B Wing is true it would be a great deal. I like the ship, but the scale really throws me. Even at 50% I am a bit hesitant to pull the trigger. Meh, time will tell....time will tell.

In the interest of UCS sets, I would like to see a Nebulon B Frigate, or a Rebel Cargo Transport, or a Mon Cal Cruiser. Even a Sith Harrower Class Dreadnaught from SWTOR would be cool to see.

Personally, I would love to see a UCS A-Wing. It's the only missing alphabet fighter and a UCS model could be quite nice. The B-Wing at 50% off would be awesome--I hope that's not just "my friend talked to a guy who said..."

Had a chance to stop in and talk to another Lego store manager in a diffrent location and showed me the same thing as the previous one, the 50% off the B-Wing and the 10% on a list of starwars items. Nothing on the DS or the SDD this time as of now. He also gave me a "TIP" on the Next UCS set to be released for Star Wars, the Ewok Village.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Was counting on an SSD at 20% off, if not do I wait or go for a European Amazon site (currently at about £300)? At 50% off I would go for a B-wing, but only at 50% off I don't like it enoght to pay more than £90 for it. For all those UCS sets that are way off minifig scale I wish they would include an appropriate pilot minifig that could be part of the stand. I do like the Stormtrooper "guarding" the base of my IS stand.

As ludicrous as the 50% rumour sounds, I have it on good authority that the B-wing is exiting and stock is going to start to dry up. Basically, production has stopped and once they're gone, they're gone.
  • BastaBasta Member Posts: 1,259
Well assuming it actually happens, the question I have is, will the B-Wing be discounted by 50% on all [email protected] sites, or only US?

If its 50% off I will buy it, even if It's $175AUD (AU RRP is $350). As the cheapest I have been able to find it for is about $240 shipped.

Wasn't it released barely a year ago? It must have been an extremely poor seller then if it's already getting the axe, too. (Though it nicely supports the 50% off rumour as they don't usually do 50% off sales in the middle of a production run nowadays.)

You never know, a 50% discount could happen, and maybe it is only going to last as long as their sale supply lasts or one day.
I'm guessing it will be about 20-25% tops on one maybe two sets, then 10% on the smaller sets...
I dunno why some people expect LEGO to start showing Falcons or DS for 50% or B Wings or whatever.. They ARE a business after all, and to be honest since most retailers really have shied away from massive discounts that easily come by the 'common man'(or worse, see TRU and their BOGO40 'sale' that lets you essentially buy two of the same set at RRP, or still higher than RRP ) I would say this is not a bad deal PLUS there is free shipping, the figure and you get VIP points to boot.
Now what will be great is if they allow non SW purchases to get the Han.. if not, oh well, I save my money.
But if they do, I hear the LEGO hospital (which is only available in the US at Walmart and we know how long those sets last at Walmart) and perhaps the new Lone Ranger Train set calling my name.

It seems that some people are not grateful enough that you get a free unique figure with a purchase over 75 and at least they have free shipping which can wallop you when buying a lot from LEGO online IMO.
Nevermind that most people on this board would spend 75 dollars normally at a LEGO store or online even if it it was not the 'May the 4th' promo.
