Its kinda a catch 22, since so many ppl dont like the new Han and wont be shelling out the $75 to get him, the ones that are out there could fetch a higher price than TC14.... However if it bombs too hard and there is an overstock of them, we vary well could see them in a hoth set, (battle damaged luke, han, open taun tuan. and another snowspeeder w/ jek , and a small snowy baseplate)...therefor killing a huge resale value.

Jek Porkins? I think you mean Zev, and, though he'd be appropriate to that scene, I'd rather see a new pilot like 'Hobbie' or (also not Hoth-appropriate) Garvin Dreis.
Yes thanks josh, i had a feeling it was Zev, but correct me if im wrong dont we have 2 zevs allready?
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
Yup. Two Zevs. A lot of people consider the pilot in the 2011 Advent Calendar to be Zev as well, but I have no real clue why given his lack of helmet print (which is the only real way to ID most of the alliance pilots in their LEGO forms). It's likely the printed visor, which was unique to Zev at the time, but it's the same face they used for Dutch Vander and, I assume, will continue to use for any non-facial haired, non-Luke pilot.

50+ on topic posts and all I want is to write a red ... stand by post (I have a few left)

Lets look at this from a slightly different angle. Does the Han promo makes you less likely to purchase the Red Five X-Wing set on May 4th ? Let's be honest, some of us are hoping for a "wow" promotional poly to help offset our out of pocket costs.

Perhaps I need to have a red kryptonite stand by to offset the mood of this thread (ha!)

Yes, it does make me less likely to do that.

Give me a Chrome R2-D2, or something else impressive, and I'd be much more likely to do it.

As it stands, I'm planning to pass.

So, there was a question that got buried and not answered I think. All of those that got the new calendar (and took pics of the Han figure), what else does the calendar say is being promoted on 5/4? Free shipping, tiered-discounts? What?

Yup; it mentions others. But you have to see a Brick Specialist to find out what they are. ;). So, no; we don't know yet.

Actually, if it was chrome R2-D2, I would keep it for the 10240 that I was going to buy. This of course would mean I would not be able to use the poly to subsidize my purchase.

Right now I am patiently waiting for the next promo to get the set

Does LEGO usually have free shipping or double VIP during the may 4th promotion? I can't remember what they did last year.

I've been waiting for months to get the Haunted House, hoping to cash in on a march/april double VIP/free shipping combo. It didn't happen... I may just suck up the shipping and get it now. I don't feel like waiting til fall for an overlap.

They are opening a b&m LEGO shop near me soon. Double VIP is a bit better deal than free shipping, but if we can except double VIP in the next few months maybe I should wait to get it locally.

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

There are new photos of the promo Han Solo over at FBTB. I think it looks quite nice.

Some people have had them for trade in the marketplace for the past week or so.

Any estimate on how long until we find out what the deals/sales are?
I need to start planning. I have $80 in points burning a hole in my pocket.

Looks like he's wearing an apron. The least Lego could have done was paint the back of the legs!
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
I'm not sure that there's an official minifig in existence that has the back of the legs printed.

In other news... why isn't he chrome?

Earlier someone posted that they got the tc-14 last year without buying any Star Wars sets. On May 4th 2013 is it any set or only Star Wars sets to get han for sale over $75? Thanks!
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
^ on [email protected], it was with $75, not matter what theme, while in the store where I live, it was only for $75 in Star Wars set.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,789
I got my Tc-14 buying something other than SW online.
That does not mean that LEGO will not restrict it to only SW purchases this year though.
  • joel4motionjoel4motion Member Posts: 959
Was anyone able to use their VIP points towards the tc14 last year?

No, but at least some have the sides.

Last year, even online it was officially only for SW spends. However, they still added the TC-14 to all orders over the threshold.

..so we still don't know if there will be any sales/deals on the 4th?
    :/
  • samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,492
^There should be.. but since 2009 LEGO has sucked most of the fun/excitement (aka great deals) out of May the 4th.

I imagine with the somewhat lackluster promotion (*cough @y2josh *cough), there just isn't that much excitement surrounding the promotion. Usually this thread is started a month or two, regarding sales/deals, before the actual May the 4th date.
  • epyon396epyon396 Member Posts: 268
    That's disappointing to hear.
I was just surprised that there wasn't any info yet, considering it's next week.

I just moved, and there's a Lego store 15 minutes from me. Hopefully it's worth heading down there.

Just recieved a post card from Lego regarding May the Fourth. In case it hasn't been shared, the info on the inside includes (USA):
-FREE Shipping with purchases of $49 (It doesn't specifically say "just Star Wars")
-FREE exclusive Lego Star Wars Han Solo (Hoth) minifigures with a Lego Star Wars purchase of $75 or more
-FREE exclusive Star Wars poster with any Lego Star Wars purchase
-Lego Star Wars sets on sale (nothing specific, just an asterisk promoting you to go to shop.lego.com/starwarspromo or more details.)
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 836
Is it gonna be worth spending $75 of SW stuff to get the Han Solo...since he's not chrome?
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,634
SW keychains, clocks, and pens etc always get a small discount. I am guessing SSD will get another discount this year since it is now the oldest UCS not counting DS. If they go 25% off I might get suckered into getting one. Last year a few sets got added to the sale later in the weekend like the MF, I ended up making a second order to get one and after selling the 2nd TC14 it was about $100 so that wasn't too shabby.

Wow, boring, just like last year. The only thing that can save this sale would be a good sale on something, not like the lousy 10% (I think) from last year on the IS and something else.*

    * See? It was so lame last year I can't remember, but ask me about BF 2011 (the last, great sale) and I can tell you everything!

    http://www.brickset.com/news/article/?ID=3140

20% off: Imperial Shuttle, Super Star Destroyer
10% off: Sith Infiltrator, Republic Frigate, Podracers, Battle of Naboo, Ewok Attack

I'd like to see the Millennium Falcon discounted by 20% this year, but I think my hopes are too high.
  • epyon396epyon396 Member Posts: 268
I'm really hoping for like 20 or 25% off of the DS.
I'm like the only person that doesn't have one :l

Can you imagine if Lego did a promo where they randomly inserted a few chrome Yodas into the remaining Death Star stock?

Chrome?! I'd buy them out of all their stock before you could say LEGO.

Well @Sam, given I'd know about the promo before you, I don't think there'd be much chance of that! Do you?? ;-)

I like the brown Hoth Han better than chrome TC-14. How many people would jump all over that 20% off UCS shuttle now?

Sometimes, these deals are better in hindsight.

Looking forward to picking up the UCS X-wing. Will this sale start on the 3rd? It's easier for me to get to Lego store during the week when I'm in the city. Hopefully so.

Rumor from Brickset, I read it here this morning at 11:17 am EST I swear!

Seriously though, rumor posts without a decent source are not helpful.

50% off on a 6 month old set sounds pretty absurd
  • ZathrasZathras Member Posts: 70
I would be very surprised if ANY Star Wars set exceeds a 20% discount this year. I think 10% on a few "soon to EOL" sets is possible but frankly 50% on a UCS is flat out crazy even for a rumor.
  • epyon396epyon396 Member Posts: 268
I heard from a very reputable source that each store will be selling few 10179's for 3 ha'pennies and a pheasant.

This was the post I found on Rebelscum Forums.

"Saw a post in the Lego GAF forum from someone who claims to be a Lego employee. He stated that the B-Wing will be 50% off for the May the 4th sale. It sounds unreal, so I am not sure whether I believe him or not. Here's his posts:

    "50% off B-wing on May 4th.

More when i find out more later, but I heard that's the big one."

"So that B-wing sale is just about it. There are some 10% off sets but not that many. I'll just rattle them off now:

    -Pre Viz
    -Y-wing
    -Hoth Echo Base
    -Palpatine's Arrest
    -A-wing
    -Anakin's Interceptor
    -Jabba's
    -Desert Skiff
    -Sith Fury
    -series 2 planets

And keychains are 20% off. Yeah, aside from b-wing it's jack squat."

Like a said a rumor....which tend to be false.
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
While 50% off would be a surprise, a significant discount would not. The B-Wing is one of the least recognizable OT vehicles, the set comes with no minifigures, and the price per piece at RRP is higher than any other recent UCS set except the Jedi Starfighter.
  • maniacmaniac Member Posts: 865
Depends. If the UCS B-Wing set is really unpopular, then maybe we could see a fair percentage off. 50% seems quite extreme though.
