I grabbed the 2nd to last B-Wing at the new Lego store in St. Louis, MO. Arrived around 10:30 am. There were about twenty people in the store checking out, all with one or two B-Wings each. Mostly middle aged guys (ha, ha) so I didn't feel too out of place. I didn't ask about a limit and didn't care. I wanted one to build and that's it. There will be a glut of these on ebay for the next few months.

Interesting observations at the new Lego store: Fire Brigades were there along with Grand Emporiums. Palace Cinema looks much better in person than in pictures. I actually want this set now. X-Wing looks pretty good. Again better than pictures, but unless I can get it for 30-50% off I won't be buying. Pick a brick wall was well stocked with standard bricks, but I didn't see anything special. Overall not quite as big as the Overland Park, KS store that I visited last year, but it's nice to finally have in St. Louis. Staff was super friendly so overall a very enjoyable visit (especially since I nabbed a B-Wing).

I wasn't planning on doing the B-Wing, but my boys wanted to purchase and share a set with their savings. I drove up to the store (about a 50 minute drive) and arrived just before it opened. There were probably a dozen people waiting for the store to open. They had three B-Wing boxes on the shelves and I figured we might not get one; however, only two were taken off the shelf before we got to them (apparently most were interested in the new X-Wing). I snagged the last one for the boys and checked out (I'm guessing there were probably dozens more in the back). We've had the opportunity to get to know the Lego store manager and a couple of the employees over the last year (thanks to @jenni), and the manager noticed that the boys were going to share the set. He tossed in the poster and Han MF and checked us out...then he walked around the counter and tossed in an additional Han MF and poster to minimize the bloodbath we all knew would ensue. The boys were elated.

Anyway, I think the guy is the best retail manager I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with in any business...it's the little things that make the difference and keep us coming back!

Very Disappointed. Made a trip to the new TLG store in St. Louis. They sold out in 5 minutes. So much for piles of B wings laying around.

@wagnerml2 you can still order online with free shipping or order from tru and get a free poly bag.

@mathew. The b wing deal may end up cannibalizing x wing sales and if it does not sell better throughout the year, then the x wing may see a similar discount next year.

Tigard Oregon store had about 35 people in it when I arrived 5 minutes past opening. They were strictly limiting b wings to one per person, but even then their limited supply was probably gone by the time I arrived, minus those who had called ahead and had one on hold

Store manager told me she had been getting calls from east coast people in the morning looking for her to ship them out to them, which she couldn't do in this case

It was longer than five minutes as I was able to get one. But yeah, I expected to see you there.

Wouldn't this set be a no brainer to at least get rrp when selling? I was looking at something to buy to get the figure but didn't find anything. When this came available again, I thought why not. I was going to buy a Han off ebay for $22. But if I can buy this set at half off and sell it for retail, I got my figure and made $100. I pulled the trigger and ordered one. Well, one times 5. Could always use an extra $500. Plus the extra from selling the extra figs. I'm not into the reselling as a second job (unless you count my Bricklink piece selling) but really, this is too easy to make money on. Plus, that money will just go back to Lego anyways to buy stuff I want.

Got my B-Wing from the Lego Store at Park Meadows this morning around 11. Saw quite a few B-Wings and a few X-Wings be bought in the 30 mins my son and I we're there.

They also had quite a few packs of Series 10 too. They had spread them around the store in about 4-5 different locations. Pretty funny seeing small groups of people at each spot feeling through hundreds of packs looking for Mr. Gold. We stood there for a good 30 mins sharing a spot with a mom and her son talking with them about how crazy people have been going tryin to find Mr. Gold. Good times to say the least.

Well, after all that build up and hype, and the hoo-hah over whether the Han was any good as a promo, and having spent all week and every spare minute checking the site and PAB, trying to work out what to buy, and then putting a PAB order together to go with it while free shipping is available, I now can't access the [email protected] website... :'o(

I dunno why, it was working fine just moments ago, but now I try to log in and access my basket, it's frozen up.

And i actually wanted the Han Solo, and didn't care that I wasn't getting any decent discounts on sets. I was just glad for some free shipping while using up some VIP points. Pooh!

And good riddance! I surprised myself today. I realised that even at £107 I wasn't interested enough to get one from TRU after getting all the way through to the order confirmation button and then not pressing it, well before TRU online ran out. With display room at a premium in my man cave I didn't think the B-wing was worthy of the space and still patiently await at least a 20% discount on an SSD via one of the European Amazon sites.
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,543
^^ Yep, think i'll need to stay away from the internet for a few weeks now... what with all those people getting up to 5x half price B-wings (wow TLG, that's how to fight the aftermarket right there, LOL), with 5 x Han's (all for ebay no doubt) to go with, making those B-wings, what, 50 quid?

I mean, couldn't we even have had a few quid off the a-wing? That thing is £25 vs $20. Geez, TLG. No lone ranger, no space patrol. Throw us a bone, couldn't they?

*shudder* the world is awash with unwanted Han's, handed out for free with a resellers dream offer... while in the UK... errr...

(I have nothing against selling Lego, but TLG's apparent split personality is really confusing me right now).

US [email protected] is uber-slow right now. Here's the messages, with my underlining:

"We are currently experiencing technical difficulties and your order may take up to 24 hours to process. Please note that if your order qualifies for promotions, they will be applied after we have processed your transaction. Express shipping options and payment using VIP rewards are not available during this time. Product availability may also be inaccurate during this time. Your order confirmation email will be delivered after your transaction has been processed.

If you have any questions, please call our friendly Consumer Service Experts at the number shown at the bottom of this page. Please note that we are also unable to accept phone orders at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience."

But this is kinda funny: on the same page to the right.

"Oops! We are experiencing technical difficulties and are currently unable to enable payment using VIP Points. If you would like to place your order using VIP Points, please call our friendly consumer service experts on the number shown at the bottom of this page."

Probably downtime for some mid-day Han counting.

My Han qualifying order for a Rancor pit at [email protected] UK using £45 worth of VIP points has gone through ok, although I doubt that it has been very busy these past few days with the miserly discounts we were privy to.

And considering Lego is an EU based company you'd think the brand new themes would be available to us first, not the US.

Seems like America get the upper advantage on everything when it comes to Lego

I started a PAB order (for my UCS MF) at 10.30pm on the UK website and it was so slow I eventually shoved a load of 1x8x2 arches in my basket at 23.59 in fear of missing my Han and free delivery. Just made it, but left out about a dozen lines. At one point around 23.45 the free gift wasn't showing up.

BTW has anyone noticed the price increase of all the little bits for the MF on BL recently?

It's barely worth BLing it nowadays, but in those immortal words of Magnus Magnusson "I've started so I'll finish...."

Anyone need any lbg 1x8x2 arches?

@legomatt Don't stay away from the internet for a few weeks, you'll miss @kevbags amazing charity raffle - something positive all round!

But some of them at prices the sane person in me just doesn't want to pay.

    ---

In the end I did put in a 55 EUR PAB order only to get one Han poly. (They increased the prices of some parts a lot btw. The trees especially have become friggin' expensive.) The site was very slow but I got through just in time. Good riddance on this May 4th promo. Though it was fun to watch how firm a stand TLG made against resellers in North America.:D

And I'm sure we'll see the B-wing clearanced soon enough here as well. Too bad I couldn't put in an order at TRU, that deal was pretty great for buyers throughout the rest of the world.

In theory, this is correct, but if you go the eBay route, you'd actually need to sell each one for ~$230 to actually clear $100 profit. You're looking at about twenty for Han right now (with free shipping), so you'd still need the B-Wing to exceed RRP - which is probably only going to happen if you offer to sell to international customers.
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,543
Sadly i couldn't get back on in time (and my order had been wiped, so that was that).

But glutten for punishment that I am, I just checked out bricklink only to see some guy has 32 han polys! What!? I only wanted one... to keep.

32, and all for sale? Power to him, i guess... or his wallet... or however they get 30-odd promo polys.

    *sigh*

But no. I am resolute. If I have missed out due to website glitches then that's that, i'm certainly not buying one. Not when people across half the world are still getting them put on orders over the next 24 hours (and on better discounts to boot).

    :o)

I normally do not go for the sw sets despite being a saw fan. But I picked up a b wing to hold on to and see how the the resale value does. If it goes up, I will sell. If it stays low then I will build. However, after awaiting the sale, getting to the store early, and finally snagging one, I now have the may 5th blues. I have a bad feeling that I will probably build the set sometime today. Maybe my wife will save me by making margaritas before I give in.

Lego is a business, their main focus is to make money.

Well as a VIP lego customer for 3 years, i just got shafted by LEGO UK with the 4th May promotional weekend. I ordered the discounted Death Star as it far cheaper that anywhere else on the web, and with the prospect of getting the promo Han Solo Hoth minifig and free postage it was a real deal. Until LEGO caancelled the order on the Saturday with no explanation. Not detered, I checked with my bank and the Cr Card was debited or blocked for the amount of the order...... I tried to call them but the line was busy. Later on Saturday evening i placed the order again..... and yet again LEGO kept me waiting till Sunday till the order details were updated as Cancelled..... what are LEGO UK playing at.
Tell you the truth, i have some Oxford Military (Korean Lego) that's comparable quality and does some great military models (Humvee's, Tanks and blackhawk helicopters, i might just stick to expanding their sets at home instead.

Yeah, I'm tempted to bust open mine today too. I'm actually happy that it has numbered bags. This way I can build it on my desk. The IS required me to spread out bags across my office floor.

@Stuart_J, it could be your name and address are barred rather than your credit card. If you have ever bought a cheap 'current at the time's set from Ebay, it could be that the seller was using a stolen credit card to buy for you from [email protected] and have it shipped to you. it is called 'drop-shipping'.

If this is the case, not great but a lengthy call with their customer services department pleading your innocence should clear your name in time for the next promo.

Arrived at my Braintree, Mass store yesterday at 4:00 and they still had about five B-wings left, so I grabbed one of course. I had to because I am enjoying the build of my own very much.

I don't remember last years promotion that much (I think they had IS at like 25% off), but I am very happy with this. This was a nice way to get me back into my Lego groove.

Got home and placed a couple B-wing orders with [email protected] too, we'll see if Customer Service cancels or not.
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
@lulwut mine went to "In Process" and B-Wing shows as back ordered (Order was made on May 4th around 12:15 am), received an email about "Update about your order, etc" telling about the back ordered. It is my only B-wing order and only for one.

I had a very successful outing in Brighton yesterday after arriving first thing, I picked up the UCS X-Wing, a small pick-a-brick cup of 1x1 round tiles in light grey, a small pick-a-brick cup of plant pieces, four more Series 10 Collectable Minifigures (picked at random and all four were different), and finally two of the Han Solo promotional item.

The staff member who served me let me have two, I suppose because they know me quite well in there and I spent quite a bit, but it really should be one per transaction should it not?
  • richoricho Member Posts: 3,830
They had a limit of 5!? So disappointed with TLG at the moment. sigh.

Full price x wing on release, I think two is fair enough given the relatively disappointing discounts on most items this promotion.

@lulwut I ordered one B-wing as well as a VW camper on May 4th around 12:05-12:10 am. My order status has been in "customer service" since then. I called lego customer service today, and the rep told me that they are reviewing (take this as you will) each and every order to make sure that people weren't going over the buying limit, and because of the time it is taking, its taking orders longer to process. She also said that since I ordered on May 4th and only ordered one, that my order should be fine and should be processed within a couple of days.
