Great price. It matches the Walmart clearance price factoring if you don't have to pay tax.

Goes good with the Rancor pit which is also at Amazon for a discount I believe.

Lol, just picked this up today at 45% off. :/

To bad in Australia it's RRP is $199.99 :p so I had to pay $109 which is cheaper then I can get it shipped from over seas, so happy with that.

Thinking hard about this deal, but call me cheap, but $88 still seems like a lot for this set.

I know the minifigs are good/exclusive, and my 4-year-old has been begging for this set. I'm still holding out hope for it to go down to $75-80.

Finally got one. My FIRST ever SW set bought for myself. Why? Because overall I'm indifferent to the movies, but my son is getting interested in them because of Lego, and whenever I think of SW I think of Jabba and the Rancor. Everything else is just pew-pew-pew.

This set will be a monster on the aftermarket, so don't wait too long. The current price of $92 is about as low as you can expect this to go for the most part.

As an aside, besides the awesome minifgs, it's a really fun set. My boy loves it and I think it really does capture (most of) the atmosphere and scene from Return of the Jedi. Coupled with two Rancor sets (really, two to give it good space underneath), it's just awesome.

I concur. The minifigures are great and you can buy a bunch of them and make some typical Mos Eisley buildings for a diorama.

I don't buy to resale, but I don't want to regret missing out on a good deal. Does anyone think a better deal for Jabba's Palace will be had come summer when the new batch of sets hit the shelves?

I had bought Palpatine's Arrest last month on sale for $65 and was hoping for a similar drop on JP.
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor MericaMember Posts: 3,950
I get the feeling that you will ask the same question until you get the answer that you want. You want it to be yes but honestly, the answer is no. My point about the aftermarket was not to tell you advice because you we're thinking about reselling it but rather that if you wait too long you will have to pay much more for it.

Btw, comparing it to palpatine's arrest is not so doable because of so many factors, lower msrp, PA was an exclusive, TRU screwed up with a recent bogo, etc.

Bottom line is that if you want Jabba, you should get it now. You can wait and maybe it'll go down, but I would not.
  • zippityzoomzippityzoom Member Posts: 86
If I keep asking, it won't keep dropping? Rats...

What really is stopping me is the 60+ lbs/40+ sets of LEGO I recently bought on Craigslist that I'm still in the midst of sorting and piecing together. If I buy JP, I know my son will want his mitts on that first before helping with this current project.

$65 on Palpatine's arrest is 28% off of retail. JP was 27% off of retail a couple days ago. Sounds pretty similar to me...

^ The way I see it, you have 3 months to change your mind (if you PM @ Target).

Watching Amazon's prices on LEGO (at least JP) is like watching volatile stock market. It's back up to $92.97. Let the "told-you so's" begin.

I'm sure Walmart/Target will clearance them out at some point for $60, but there's no guarantee you'll find any of those. Other than that, 30% should be as good as it gets, plus maybe an applicable coupon somewhere if you get lucky. I got one from shopko a while back for $80, after coupon and cash back savings.
  • dougtsdougts Oregon, USAMember Posts: 4,112
yeah, waiting for clearance is a huge gamble. depending on the area you live, unless you are constantly trolling the stores, or get lucky to be in the right place at the right time, you are going to miss out on any of the great 50%+ off deals on desirable sets.

What amazes me is that this set is "27% off", and yet is still 13 cents per part, even at that "discount".

It is so overpriced to begin with that it would take 50% off to feel like a real sale.

But I'm sure it is selling, it is Jabba's Palace after all, it just amuses me to see the excitement over such a "sale".

Yea, yea, minifigs and all that, a plastic Jabba doesn't cost $20 to make. :)

Just scored it for $83.59! on Amazon. I saw the 87.99 price and was toying with whether to get it or not. I got distracted and checked out the gold box/lightning deal page. Below the main list of items, it had a list of picks they thought I would like (basically, stuff you viewed recently) and offered an additional lightning deal discount. Knocked off another 4.40 for the final $83.59 price. Nice!
  • exciter1exciter1 Member Posts: 201
Yes, check your Quick Picks. I see it in mine for $83.59 as well.
  • MCNwakeboardMCNwakeboard VirginiaMember Posts: 256
Awesome, I was able to find it in my quick picks as well for $83.59. I thank you; my wife does not.
  • zippityzoomzippityzoom Member Posts: 86
Argh...why do I not have it. I look at the JP set almost daily. Only shows two Friends sets.

Also, what does that say about what Amazon thinks of me???

  • zippityzoomzippityzoom Member Posts: 86
Looks like Target recently marked down JP also:

There might be hope that this drops more from competing retailer.

and I have #9499 in my GB, I guess it is Gungan style for me :)
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor MericaMember Posts: 3,950
Heh, looks like lots of us got it in our quick picks. I picked one up also.
  • exciter1exciter1 Member Posts: 201
I have three JP sets right now, so I'm in a holding pattern. Although I am tempted at this price.
  • PoochyPoochy USAMember Posts: 479
Sigh, not in my QP, but #10223 is for $105 (12% off).

Noticed a 3rd party seller(save2013now) on amazon listing #9516 as New for $71.49 shipped. I ordered, but am wondering what will come in the box...

i managed to snag one for $75+ shipping a while back. seller just slapped a shipping label on the box. After leaving bad feedback for them because of that they refunded my shipping and i removed the bad feedback. so $75 total wasn't too bad. $71.49 is even better! :)

JP and Vampyre Castle are nearly the exact same weight. Just saying.

Personally, I think the notion that those giant roof panels in Jabba's Palace should hold the same value as a 1x1 plate is pretty much nonsense, but there's so much emphasis on price-per-part these days, this set seems even more overpriced than it is.

For the record, I do think it's overpriced... but probably by twenty dollars or so, rather than fifty or whatever the general consensus is.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,096
When you figure in the typical $10 premium on the Star Wars license and the inclusion of the Jabba minifig, the price should be more in line with $99-109. I'm not sure where Lego is figuring in the extra ten bucks, but my guess is that it's an extra jab at the collectors.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas TexasMember Posts: 8,409
^ Yep... $99 would have been a reasonable price for this set, as it stands, it is way overpriced in all respects... Not just price per part, but weight of content as well.

But that's ok, they are selling just fine, and clearly on sale often. This past Christmas however, they were hard to find, sold out almost everywhere, so they were selling.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 2,002
^It's actually pretty much in line with the 'value' LEGO ascribes to weight of content for similarly sized licensed sets. Helm's Deep (the assembled model... not the shipping weight), for example, weighs just shy of 2 lbs. 12 oz. and has an RRP of $129.99. Jabba's Palace weighs just a bit less at 2 lbs. 9 oz. So in terms of licensed sets, they're right together. Are both sets overpriced? Absolutely. I'm just saying I don't think they're overpriced by as much as some seem to think.

On top of that, for parts collectors, Jabba's Palace is a veritable steal, as the minifigs alone currently sell for about $90 on average (or $93 if you count the B'omarr Monk as a minifig). So this particular set gets a lot more flack than it rightly deserves, I think largely because its value is being assessed in a manner that doesn't make a ton of sense, especially compared to other licensed offerings.
  • zippityzoomzippityzoom Member Posts: 86
You all bring up valid points.

The best way to boil down a set's price should be:

    Minifigure rarity
    Piece count
    Special pieces
    Weight
    License set
    staffmark
