Yep, noticed it in sales and deals this morning. Haven't bothered working out the actual value, but would seem better to just buy the HE and then a passenger train even when not reduced. I know it doesn't have the rechargable battery, but even so.

It seems that buying the cheap red passenger train last year was a good move after all :)

Being a absolutely Noob when it comes to Trains i'm shocked that these PF are THAT expensive!!! Glad i've bought a passenger Train couple of month ago when it was about 60€ at Amazon :)

The main reason why LEGO's combination is so expensive is that they are including the 8878 (Li-on rechargeable battery) and 8887 (charger). For the cost of the battery alone, at least in US, you can purchase 8884, 8879, 8870 and 88002 (rest of the train components). An alternative for the 8878 battery is to use the 88000 battery pack and rechargeable AAA batteries.

Buying another train set will also reduce your cost and adds more parts - think tracks.

I can tell you, that using the rechargeable battery is easier so that you do not have to take the train appart to change batteries.

Sounds like they're trying to clear some stock of the rechargeable batteries by offering this bundle.

We have 3 motorized trains, Yellow Cargo, Red Passenger, and Emerald Night. All three have the rechargeable battery pack.

Worth every single penny. :) Taking them apart to change batteries is just nuts, the cost of AA batteries isn't free, and plugging them into the wall, they run all day.

I have one rechargeable unit, but find it a real pain since it always seems to be flat when I want to use it. Rechargeable AAAs means you can keep it running while the dead ones charge. It's easy enough to add tiles to the bottom of the battery compartment so it's easy to get the box in and out and design the top so it flips off easily (like HE already does) or stays attached (like the EN coal).

Took advantage of recent TRU BOGO to purchase the rechargeable battery. 2 for $75USD. These come in handy during our LUG displays.

A stray Red Cargo train just showed up at my TRU. Still hard to spring for it at RRP, even with all the goodies.
