Designing and building my own Lego stadium

Hi there!

My name is Dan and I'm a new member.

Having recently been re-introduced to Lego through the LOTR sets I have decided that I would love to design and build my own Lego football stadium.

I have been scouting around on the internet and have seen some fantastic creations by other people and have also done some preliminary sketches of the basic shape I would like my stadium to take.

But how do you go about designing and building your own model?

Do you follow a set process through from the initial idea to the actual build?

Also, how do you determine which Lego parts you need/would suit best?

Many thanks,

Dan.

For me the process is usually something like find images of what I want to build, design, practice sections of it, build, redesign, practice a bit more, build, redesign, build, redesign, check original source, build, redesign, ...

You can normally throw in a few bricklink orders at various stages too. I don't bother building in the right colours first. I build using parts I have to check it works then order parts in colours I need later.

It always helps to download and read lego instructions for similar building sections in existing sets.

You can of course use LDD and do it digitally, but I prefer building and designing by hand.

It took me twenty four odd years to do my arena:-

Mostly trial and error (with a lot of errors!)
    Hope that helps.
    Also, welcome to Brickset.

    Hi,

Thanks for your replies, I've got a decent range of bricks to get started with so I think I'll just use my initial sketches and go with the trial and error. See how I get on before ordering any specific bricks!

The arena looks fantastic, I can see why it would take so long to build! I don't think mine will be anything like that scale or any where near as good but I'll give it a go!

(shame about the no football sign! haha)

    Thanks,

    Dan.
