New automatic linking for major retailers?

I've recently noticed that whenever someone mentions a major retailer like Walmart, Argos, eBay etc. It is automatically linked to the corresponding website. Is this a new feature of some sort? It seems a bit odd ...
Edit: it seems it doesn't work all the time either: eBay Walmart
It can't work right next to another one: Walmart

I've just tested it on Windows, Android and WebOS so it's definitely not my computer. But in typical Vanilla fashion, it doesn't work in the mobile version.

Yes--I've enabled additional functionality of SkimLinks that does this in addition to turning hyperlinks to vendors into affiliate links, which it's been doing for a year or so. If it's too intrusive I will disable it.

I don't have any conrtrol over the mobile site at all so can't enable SkimLinks on it.
