Legends of Chima set 70001 box has misleading picture.

bigjsdbigjsd Member Posts: 62
Yesterday my son picked up Chima set 70001. He was bummed out when the set did not include the pieces to make Crawley's weapon that is pictured in the upper right hand corner on the back of the box. I thought for sure he had overlooked the pieces but then he explained that it was not included in the directions either. I have been buying Lego since 1978 and I cannot recall ever buying a set in which items pictured on the box were not included in the set without some kind of disclaimer. Does anyone else have this set and feel this picture is a bit misleading? I think Lego made a mistake including this pic on the box. I realize it's only 8 small pieces but the weapon's are really cool to my son. I figured I would be able to make it from spare parts but I don't own any of the red teeth parts.

Just looked and your right, all the other images on the box are set parts except the weapon he has is not in the set. As a father with kids I can understand exactly what your saying. They will always notice any small defect we adults might overlook when it comes to toys.

I would email Lego Customer Service and explain the fact the box picture implys cragger has a weapon but the kit does not contain it.

I did e-mail Lego already and I am waiting on a response. I have no doubts Lego will rectify the situation and I will post their reply. Now I am curious to know if they made this mistake on other sets.

Have had similar issues with City and Atlantis sets. The customer service send the pictured pieces straight away.

Which City sets have had this problem?

I noticed the same thing. The issue with some of the Chima sets is that if the minifig is the "driver" of the vehicle included, he doesn't come with weapons. But they still use some of the same art which would lead us to believe he comes with his weapon. In reality, Crawley comes with his weapon in the other set he's in where he's only an add-on minifig.

Very weird choice on LEGO's part to include the image.

I ended up Bricklinking the weapon.

@binaryeye the 7245 had a happy police guy on the 1:1 image and a strict in the box. Got 4 new different happy faces in the mail. Really nice!

Atlantis 8060 I think it was (or maybe 8059?) portraites the diver with a black hapuna on the side of the box, which was not included. Came with the customer service though! :-)

Aqua Raiders 7773 came with wrong colour jewels... also in the second attempt from the CS :-/

I did get a response from Lego today. As expected they apologized and offered to send out the parts for the weapon in question which is actually included with set 70005 and not in 70001. They also offered to send a few extra weapons to make my son a happy Lego fan once again. I told him he could pick one extra so he chose Equila's weapon from 70004. Although it's not a surprise that they responded it always makes me appreciate Lego as a company that much more. It's the reason I have been a loyal customer for 35 years and passing my love of Lego on to my kids as well.

Picked that one up earlier today while I was out with the kids. Oldest fell asleep before we could build it!

I'm curious as to what the picture looks like, can anyone with this set post a picture of the back of the box? I looked it up on google and couldn't find a back of the box picture.

Here's a pic. Pretty cool looking weapon.

I didn't even catch that until reading this.

^ & ^^ Thanks! I see now, I thought it was a misleading picture of the set, but technically it's part of the box banner or box art. Still, I can see it being misleading. Like those skeleton ninjago spinners that never came with the headgear shown on their cards!

Our #2521 lightning dragon battle set seems to have weapons on the box that don't come with the set: there is a 'selection' of weapons in a little diagram on the back of the box, but most are sort of 'greyed out' to indicate that the only one Jay gets in this set are the nunchucks (i think other sets he features in give him the other ones). I must say I had a job convincing my six year old that it was 'ok' that they were 'missing'. :/

I've just noticed that some retailers also show photos with Crawley holding his 'weapon'.

The third image down on Argos's page clearly shows it.

^ Bizarrely on there one of the images also has two Leonidas minifigures shown. Obviously LEGO can't be accountable for images shown on a retailers website, but presumably these images come from LEGO's marketing or sales departments.

^ If you look closely, there are two crocs too.

It is similar to the box front picture - an action scene with the two minifigs placed in non-action poses at the front.

Did anyone else find it odd that there were two instruction manuals? It was a surprise to me for such a small set.

Had the problem with set 7623 Indiana Jones Temple escape. The plane on the box has white engine and wing supports, but came with a black engine and grey wing supports. Sent Lego an email and got the white parts right away.

    Yes. Found that very odd.

I noticed the discrepancy a while ago and told some friends and the lego store staff. it wasn't something I couldn't make with things i had on hand but I mentioned it could upset some kid. I think I may have mentioned it on here somewhere.... The staff at the lego store seem to be trained to say sets contain what's shown on the front of the box.

That would be because LEGO is trying to advert Chima as much as they can, placing a load of ads for sets in the instructions, making them a lot thicker.

Got the replacement weapons yesterday from Lego and although they sent me seven all together they were all sword type weapons and not the brick built weapon that Crawley has on the box. I can't believe I have to spell this out for them in such detail. I sent them another email tonight with a detailed parts list to build the freaking weapon I should have gotten in the first place. I'm a bit annoyed now and my son is hummed.

Be glad they sent you something.

LEGO customer service is top notch, I can't say enough good things about it. :)

Why be glad they sent you the wrong thing?

I have to say, whilst I agree they have great CS, they don't always get it right. Lets also be straight, we pay for that great CS, along with a high quality product, through relatively high prices.
