V2 IR receiver in 9398

The crawler just wouldn't wouldn'd do anything today even after fresh batteries. Then l I swapped the V2 IR receiver with an original version and now it works fine.

Has anybody else had a V2 fail?

Why do we need a V2 if the servo motor works fine the the V1?

Maybe V1 only allows full lock and not partial lock, I can't check now as the V2 won't work.

Cheers

Mine has started acting up. The wheels turn sluggishly, it will only go back a couple of millimetres before stopping, and won't go forwards at all. Sometimes it makes a beeping sound, like a truck backing up. Not sure what's causing this; it has fresh batteries.

I have a couple of spare receivers I could try. What's the difference between V1 and V2?

    Lego website says
"The IR Receiver V2 version has an improved motor driver giving you lower power loss and longer battery lifetime (currently the IR Receiver V2 is only available in the 9398 4x4 Crawler)."
