Wizard Hats

sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
I have a few deliberate collections of parts. One of which is the wizard hat in all its available colors. I recently received a Bricklink order with what is supposed to be the Light Purple one. But it looks rather like Dark Pink to me. I don't have the Dark Pink hat yet either, but have other Dark Pink elements to compare with.

The Light Purple one comes with Professor Trelawney in #4757 Hogwarts Castle (2nd Edition), and the Dark Pink one comes in #4723 Diagon Alley Shops. Does anyone have both of these, and could take a photo comparing the two side-by-side? I'd appreciate it.

I cannot help you with the colours.

Have you got one in white? I know it is not listed on bricklink or here, but sometimes these things surface in different colours. Or are we going to have to wait for a Gandalf the White to get this colour?

I think I do. Or at least have 3 variations of pink-purple. I'll try and get a picture posted tomorrow unless anyone beats me to it.

Red seems to be most often used for test moldings; hence red Vader helmets and lots of other odd red parts.

Red red wizard hats turn up from time to time -

Gandalf the white doesn't wear a hat does he?

    I have them both.

    Sorry for the picture quality

^Not in the movie, I don't think. There are some scenes where he wears his old grey hat, even after his transformation/resurrection/thingy though, I think. Would that be a new colour?

No, but here's hoping Lego just go with exactly the same minifig, just on white instead of grey. I'm after that white hat for something else ...

^I'm straying off topic. But judging by the fuzzy prelims it looks like Gandalf is sans hat, as per the films.

Of course (straying even further off topic) Gandalf (the Grey)'s hat should be *blue* according to Tolkien.

Thanks. So is the Dark Pink one on the right? If so, the other one sure doesn't look like "light" purple. But maybe that's the lighting/camera.

    ^Maybe these aren't the ones

Are those both from Diagon Alley Shops? It came with Purple and Dark Pink.

The Hogwarts Castle (2nd Edition) came with the Light Purple one. Dumbledore from that set also supposedly has the Light Purple color for the torso and legs.

Ahhhh. I see. I just looked again and I made a mistake. I'm not doing so good today.

^ No problemo. Thanks for the effort.

    Hopefully this is of help:

From left to right is (as defined by bricklink) Dark Pink, Light purple and Purple.

The two purples are the most similar. I think Pitfalls photo shows a dark pink (which I'd describe as just 'pink') and purple.

Excellent. Thank you very much. Your photo, and Pitfalls, solidified the conjecture. I've contacted the seller, and they confirmed they've sent the wrong one, and will be sending the Light Purple out this week.
