Tumbler from 76001 The Bat vs. Bane: Tumber Chase

So, just finished building this set and now I have an unbearable urge to build another tumbler, but in black. Has anyone tried this? Any of the parts used hard to find? I know that many people are not thrilled with the scale of the set, but once built and all the figs and vehicles are together, everything looks pretty good. Anyway, was just wondering if anybody had tried this.

Yep, just built mine in black. Due to being lazy, ordered all the parts from Bricklink rather than rummaging about to find parts from my own collection.
Nothing particully rare, think it cost under £10 to build mine. Personally think it looks much better in black, and have started to have a think about removing the flick fire missiles to allow room for extra wheels on the back. Should be pretty easy I think to double them up.
One thing you'll need to do is to remove the steering wheel so Batman fits in, but once thats gone Batman fits in fine.

That's what I was figuring. There's no problem with the height of the vehicle and Batman's cowl, is there?

Batman fits ok if you take the steering wheel out- roof closes fine. Need to figure out squeezing some steering controls somewhere though...

Dang...I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread!!!! Now I have to go buy parts to build a black tumbler!

About half way through, just waiting on some parts from Lego Direct and Bricklink, but so far the black does look good

Finished mine just a few minutes ago. Didn't have to source any parts, just used a mix of black and dark bley. Honestly, this looks much better than the tan one in the set. I agree with @smokebelch, though - need to find some way to give Batman some controls!

you guys should bricklink the original tumbler. I did this and it's a million times better than this new one. Only cost me around $50 with shipping costs for all the parts (didn't bricklink Joker's van only the tumbler)

I was seriously considering doing so, but I have some concerns on its size. From the pictures, it seems like it would dwarf the other cars on my city street, and it seems way larger than minifig scale. Am I correct, or is that old tumbler a fairly accurate size?

it would dwarf the other cars on your city street as it is more accurate to the film than being appropriate size for a lego city. It is minifig scale however and will hold two figs in its cockpit. Not to mention it looks freakin amazing! lol

Old tumbler is pretty awesome, but it is huge. There are a few parts that are hard to find right now.

In fact, it is nowhere near minifigure scale :) Scaling down using measurements from the real Tumbler I worked out that it should be around 13cm long, not a foot long like the 2008 model ;)

@jjb5000 - Bricklink, when I ordered the required pieces it cost about £12.00. Instructions were available for a while, I am not sure if they still are. If you don't already have them, just ask and I will PM you the file in case Tiler does not still have them in his Flickr photostream.

You're right. That tumbler by Tiler is amazing! I used to like the tumbler that has the most votes on Cuusoo the most but I've changed my mind. It's very stunning and is probably the closest to the tumbler from the movie. How much do you think it would cost to get all of the parts on brick link to build it?

Now that the black tumbler is complete, I'm looking at the Batcave set and wondering how hard it would be to MOC a turntable for it . . .

^ Take a look at the original Batcave #7783 instructions and see how the turntable mechanism works then take it from there.

£12 is excellent! I'm down £14 and missing 2 bits (including 4 black 42446) - most likely my fault - only wanted to order from UK sellers on BL and 42446 seem to live mostly in Germany (or US) grrrr.... Might have to substitute with green - lol

@alzamba - I seem to recall I ordered from one seller in the UK, and one in Holland. The prices go up and down all the time on Bricklink though so you might have to pay a little more or perhaps a bit less.

@monkey_roo - That looks great apart from the light bluish grey parts at the back which really stand out when the rest is all black. I am still not struck on the design as a whole to be honest though, it is too simplified and does not capture the shell like armour in my opinion.
