Monthly Mini Builds

I saw the other day that the January Lego monthly mini build poly was a Penguin/Igloo. I'm assuming you can only get these at a Lego store? I live 3 hours away from one so we only get to one every couple years...if lucky. Am I able to call the store and order some? Are they fairly limited?...I was thinking of possibly going up there at the end of the month.

I work at a store (southern CA), and we're really strict on only letting the kids build.. to the point where, when we hand out cards to people waiting in line (which guarantees them a set to build), we only hand them directly to the kids themselves. The sets aren't labeled for sale, either, so even if you spoke with a store manager who was willing to help you out with leftover sets (if there are any), there's no official way to sell them to ya. Really, you'd have to either find a lax store manager or strike up a relationship with them... unless you find kids selling them on eBay after :)

oh if u have kids and they like lego, bring them along. If they dont like lego, then say "hey son i need you to hook me up with some legos, here's a 20"

If you dont have any kids then use craiglist saying "searching for little kids who like legos"

but in all fairness i would just find the instruction and buy the pieces for the set if u really want it

I would try Bricklink sooner or later the set will show up there! set # 40061
and instructions can be downloaded via Brickset or Lego, since these are not inserted in the Polybags.

as the above post says, the instructions can be downloaded from Lego until the end of the month, and you can then order what you need from the online PAB.

During my third ever trip to a Lego store, I asked the cashier how a supposedly fully grown adult like myself could get hold of the monthly build sets that were on display near the pick-a-brick wall. She went out the back and returned with 6 different ones from previous months. I asked how much they would be and she said I could have them for free!
