Lego Lamborghinis (#8169 and #8214)

Both of the Lamborghini sets that Lego made a little while ago represent roughly the same car, right? (Gallardo?) I'm just curious as to how similar the builds are (apart from colour/decoration). Are they basically the same?

One big difference is the Polizia version has brick built headlamps instead of stickers which is a significant improvement.

The overall builds are very similar. Right after building #8169, I took a gander at building #8214 in a different color. The first 3/4 of the build is the same, the last 1/4 are differences in the headlamps (big change as @Bumblepants said), interior dashboard, added rear spoiler and the hood design. The Polizia interior is mono color and not as visually nice as the yellow one's. Other difference is #8214 can not be made into Roadster form.

Other difference is #8214 can not be made into Roadster form.

Why's that, I wonder? Surely the only difference is the roof (or lack thereof)?

^It doesn't include the parts that make it mechanically fold to fit under the engine bonnet. This is an ingenious design and looks great up or down with the black top and is why my preference lies with the yellow #8169.

Woah! I had no idea it had mechanical stuff like that! I thought you just took the roof off :P. So it actually had the bricks to make the hard-top version and the convertible? I'm starting to regret having missed it the first time around!

Yes two different models, sorta like a Creator 2-in-1. You end up with extra pieces either way you go, black(roadster) or yellow(hardtop). I loved making the top go up and down for visitors, they were always impressed.
